  • This video is showing you how #to fish for Barbel, Chub and Roach on the River Severn using Flavoured Chick Peas.
Encountering surprising weather conditions and some unexpected twists and turns.
I hope my first adventure on the River Severn in 2023 will help my fellow Anglers catch fish on the river at an affordable cost and bank their fish of their dreams.
With hints and tips throughout I’m positive it will make an impact on most rivers.
Including a little hint that might bag those larger Barbel that are allusive to most Anglers.

Nice video. It's always good to catch a barbel no matter what size. I've always fancied fishing that peg with a bolo or Avon float. Seeing the roach and chublet come out makes it even more appealing. I love catching river roach. Will look forward to seeing your other videos

Mind you it was along time ago but I fished a peg at Quatford right next to the road.
I hooked 15 and only got 3 out.
Next day there was a match there so I went down to watch and the guy who drew there pissed it at quite a few of the Barbel he caught had my hooks in!
So thanx Jim Wiltshire if your reading this who showed me how to play Barbel and get them out!

Nice to see you back on the River mate and catching your first barbel of the season, I'm out Tuesday on the Severn for the first time in ten years with a good mate of mine and have picked up a tin of chick peas today to give them a try with spicy sausage flavour on a few and tuna flavour on the rest, I was also wondering if you would shell them like you do for the carp or leave it on as a bit of extra protection while bouncing around on the bottom, looking forward to seeing your next River adventure

      Wow spicy sausage flavour!!
Now I'm intrigued please let me know how you get on👍
Now with the skins my advice would be take as many as you can off before the process.
However don't worry to much as when you start to use the chick peas you could still take them off on the bank and the flavouring will still hold in...
From my personal experience if the skin starts coming off the chick peas in the water it tend to effect your catch rate.

Hi just subscribed to your channel..but I used to have a caravan at quatford many years ago..and the used to be 3 main pegs the glory hole in meadow one.. Harrises peg then meadow two was two pegs called the stack hole's and used to have 100lb plus bag's of barbel..and the glory hole was the first ever peg to win a match on the river Severn with over 100lb of barbel..but what meadow was you fishing it looked like meadow to me but I may be wrong

I believe its known as the Stack peg as their is a Chimney behind the trees.
Only found this out from the bailiff 😀 (meadow 2)

@@cookiesfishingcapers9299 Well the bailiff is wrong because before the river Severn became the way it is today it was so much a different river the same as Ironbridge was because big boats used to be able to travel up the river Severn from the Bristol channel to quatford so the stack hole's so was named the stack hole's after where people once stacke loads on to the boats.. nothing to do with fishing but a bit of history

Great video,, still reckon most will be in fast oxygenated water even with the rain ,, heavy rain after long dry spell can turn them off especially with run off deoxygenateing the water further,, had this a few years ago on the ribble n they fought like bream , took ages to recover and looked very washed out especially after it was just after spawning!,, water temps are certainly worth a look ! Don't no if you have had similar issues on the severn ect . 👍

I tie my main line to a size 14 drennan swivel stop bead.(Using a blood knot)
Then simply tie the fluoro carbon leader also using a blood knot from the other end of the swivel down to your hook..
Hope this helps if not I will put this into to my next video which I'm going to film tomorrow evening.👍

So many times we all cast out and they are just underneath your swim.🤫

I like to feeder fish using a Back Lead (maybe a couple of SSG's) 2 or 3 foot above the feeder to put the line on the bottom.

Thank you for your comment @ felgate11.👍
Great shout I've never thought about doing that before.
I'm guessing it must pin the line down and doesn't spook any suspecting fish in the vicinity.👍😀

@@cookiesfishingcapers9299 Exactly correct bud' & the thing with SSG's is that you can add or take them off without stripping down + reduces fish swimming through the line (Liners or Line bites for Newbies, not familiar with the term)

Hi , I enjoyed the video, but wanted to ask a question? How do you prepare your chickpeas? I’ve found them to be really soft, and fall apart when you put a baiting needle through them? And tips would be appreciated

    • @cookiesfishingcapers9299
      @cookiesfishingcapers9299  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for your comment Paul👍
OK so a couple of things depending on the chick peas used is one.
Tescos have always done good for me as they tend to be a bit harder than most.
The other is prep them up by microwaving in your favoured spice and put them on for 2 minutes. (Make sure you dry them a little before putting them in).
Believe it or not I have tried them in the Air fryer recently for 4 minutes and they've been great... on 200.
There is a couple of videos I've done recently by microwaving them and by oven. (The oven video shows me holding them up in different flavours)
(Make sure the baiting needle is the really thin one)
If you need any further information please let me know.
      Tight lines Paul 👍👍

      Great question👍
To be honest that's a tough one to answer.
I've had great fish on all baits including Boilies, Meat etc.
However I find that using Chick Peas for me recently has caught me a lot of fish on tough days plus it's so much cheaper in the current climate.😀

I have recently started using flavoured chick peas based on your videos 🙂 Not caught anything, yet, but fishing here has been very poor thanks for very unsettled weather and a lot of water in the river and dam, almost overflowing at the moment. When targeting carp, how long do you leave the bait in the water?

    • @cookiesfishingcapers9299
      @cookiesfishingcapers9299  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your comment @akwamarsunzal.
It really depends on the venue.
If the water you fish on is difficult then sit it out for a few hours.
I have night fished venues and the chick peas have been fine the next day.
Sometimes it could be the venue and they are just not feeding 👍

@@cookiesfishingcapers9299 Interesting! I fish two rods, one boilies and one chick peas (normally sweetcorn). Normally leave boilies out for at least 2 to 3 hours and they retreive with the boilie attached. The check peas never retrieve even after just an hour in the water. Just concerns me a little bit. However, I have picked up some floating imitation chick peas and going to give them a try when we get some settled weather with a small pva bag of flavoured chick peas to see if they work.
