Jay....I have an incredible DAC that, at 12K retail, competes extremely favorably with DACs costing much more. I'm a budget minded Audiophile, and one of my greatest discoveries was my Ayre Acoustics QX-5 Twenty DAC. The Ayre Acoustics QX-5 Twenty is an incredible DAC, for a sane amount of money!!! Also, I learned my lesson about putting my speakers against the wall over 25 years ago. I noticed that when attending High End Audio Shows, in almost every instance, the exhibitors always had their speakers placed well into the room, which created that depth and 3d soundstage that I was sorely missing in my own listening room. Well said.
For around the same price (perhaps slightly more) you can get the MSB Discrete DAC with two external power supplies. Your DAC with off the shelf chips can’t even touch the Discrete let alone compete with the higher end ones.
@@glichasasha750 I beg to differ!!! I auditioned the MSB Discrete DAC, and although I thought it was a very fine sounding DAC indeed, to my ears, it was on par with the other two DACs that I auditioned, Ayre and DCS. However, the MSB didn't engage me quite as much as either the DCS or the Ayre DACs did, in the same price range. I chose the DAC that I found to be the most overall engaging to my ears. I stand by my former statement.
Jay, Your info has improved amazingly. Good job!
I recently cross-shopped the Borresen X3 against the Wilson Sabrina X. I ended up buying the Wilson because I've always wanted a Wilson and because i feel more comfortable with servicing in the long term dealing with an established American company. However, the Borresens were competitive in terms of sound against the Sabrina, for about $7k less. Definitely worth a listen.
There are speakers designed to be close to the wall. Such as the klipsch jubilee ok the khorn
These are great videos. Fantastic job on the thumbnails too. Hope they get new interest and more growth for your channel. THANK YOU
Glad you like them!
@@jaysaudiolab just a thought. You have a unique insight in seeing more real high end systems in place in the home than anyone. Maybe a video on 'Mistakes by high end audiophiles' going over what you've seen, could be popular. I guess you're already way too busy...
Recently Paul from PS AUDIO shocked me by admitting that the VERY BASE CORE TECHNOLOGIES that I have been trying to share ideas with are THE ABSOLUTE FINEST POSSIBLE... I
WAS SHOCKED AND INCREDIBLY PLEASED WITH THIS HONESTY OF ADMISSION AS MOST OF THE INDUSTRY WON'T PUT OUT THE FACTS AS THEY CAN'T PROFIT ON ONES FOOLISHNESS ONCE A PERSON HAS GENUINE KNOWLEDGE OF UNDERSTANDING.
magnifico.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
It՝s interesting how lots of the rewiers try to push everyone to place the loudspeakers far from the walls, way into the room, although many were designed to place close (sometimes very close) to the wall behind them, or even back to the corners, to sound the best!
Maybe their intention is true for many modern speakers, but it՝s not true for all vintage designes!
So it should be noted that it՝s not valid for all the loudspeakers!
Let me mention a few:
Heybrook hb1, hb2,hb3 etc.
Highend Sony APM-77/4/6/8, or Technics Sp-8. etc.
or into the corner: Audio Note / Snell speakers, etc.!
These are more thoughts for the cheaper level audio channel, don't you think?
The Audio Note AN-E SEC Signature (all silver wired, etc.), or Klipsch Jubilee, or Sony Apm 8/6/4 ain't no cheap (and there are some really high-priced modern designes as well with the same desired placement), but not that's important.
The one I mentioned wasn't about price, it was about the statement had been declared many times by reviewers/youtubers from various channels (be it cheap or ultra highend) that 'speakers should be placed far from the wall, way into the room', without mentioning the existence of exeptions.
Not all loudspeakers need same kind of placement! and that's a statement.
@@zocsda1328 from an operational viewpoint, speakers that resolve out all or most aspects that build ultimate realism in sound reproduction of a prior event require placement that delays or halts or modifies interaction with adjacent surfaces. Most people (even many of the supposed experts or authorities)fail to address these adjacent surfaces and how they smear and mangle quality reproduction. So on average placing speakers close to walls and boundaries gets you more reinforcement of what's already wrong in a design and typically that's in designs you mentioned. If we are going to move genuine ultra high end reproduction forward we cannot continue to mask or hide or make excuses for all these SUBSTANDARD practices and poor advice from authorities who lack ultimate knowledge.
When you say power conditioner versus outlets are you referring to connector quality versus the quality of the AC waveform? Wouldn't it be simpler to use as many Toslink connections as possible since light cannot transmit jitter or noise?
Turns out that the digital to optical conversion process (twice) itself introduces noise and jitter into the mix. You end up with higher jitter than just a simple electrical signal transmission. No free lunch in this world.
@@meesmo4this does apply as true for those who do not understand advanced A2D and D2A conversion signals circuits
@@davidcross890 no one's talking about A/D D/A conversion here, or unless you have basic comprehension problems.
@@meesmo4 really???? Are you that inept and unaware????
@@meesmo4 let's see.... You design, build nothing....probably contribute even less...maybe your gig is you're a higher level useless eater....maybe
