you only remember chyna after the plastic surgery and when she cycled off of steroids! When she first got into the WWE she was like WTF is that! She had a huge square Jawline. That why I think she had surgery to adjust her jawline
Stevie's blunt, but he's right. That being said, I think the women of today owe a debt to Chyna, Sable, etc, because their appeal was based on looks, they were able to garner mainstream attention, which opened doors and made Wrestling for accessible, not just for "Divas", but for the actual female wrestlers as well. Plus, you had some like Trish, who started out as eye candy, and then a solid wrestler in her own right.
Although Chyna did not bring in the technical sound wrestling to the women's wrestling, which I think is what he meant, she did, however, become the 1st women in a long time to be taken seriously, there was Bull Nakano, Alundra Blayze, among other female wrestlers who were wrestling like the men, long before Chyna, but the attitude era completely shitted on everything women had done in wrestling. Chyna becoming as big as she did allowed women to be given a second chance, which birthed Lita, Trish, Beth, Jazz, Victoria, Mickie, and all the other women, just like how the NXT women are the reason for the women's revolution now.
Chyna was kinda like the Hogan of women's wrestling. She was just a look, and an image, but got over like wildfire. Just like I respect Hogan for what he did for the business, I respect Chyna 💯.
She was an Icon. Ask most fans which ladies wrestler was the most legit. Anyone who was around in the '90s will say Chyna. Not because they know whether or not she could put another lady wrestler in the bow and arrow, but because she was strong and that made her gimmick believable. She turned out to be a sweetheart, too.
That's because "most fans" have no fucking clue about the history of wrestling. I ask you to look up Mildred Burke. And just because a wrestler has muscles, doesn't make that wrestler "believable." Lex Luger was built like a brick shithouse...unfortunately, he also stank up the ring like one. Scott Steiner wasn't believable because of his frame. He seemed legit because he worked super tight and snug, and looked like he was really trying to cripple his opponent. As for your "icon", I'm sorry, but performing ten backflips in a row, just to "build momentum" and deliver a corner splash, to me always looked fucking awful. And I was around in the 1990s, and I disagree with you. Trust me, a lot of skinny girls in Japan would not only work circles around her, they would have flattened her in a shoot. To me, someone like Bull Nakano looked far more "legit" than a plastic-filled pretender with a rocket launcher on her shoulder.
Hell no. Stop it with that disrespect of Hogan. If image was the only thing that mattered, guys like Chris Walker, Kevin Kelly, and other physique only guys would've been big stars. Hogan had the most charisma of any face in the history of wrestling. How do I know? He went over in three different major territories. This slander of Hulk Hogan in terms of his contribution to pro wrestling is ridiculous.
When it comes to wrestling, honestly. Wrestling isn't the most important skill. Charisma is #1 by far. The Rock and Stone cold had average wrestling ability but great selling skills and a charisma that blew the roof off. Those with the most pure wrestling skill often end up jobbers, due to no gimmick and mic skill.
C'mon Stevie! Don't run Chyna down like that especially since she's dead. She did exactly what Vince wanted her to do it's not like she wrote her own promos & did her own gimmicks.
I THINK sTEVIE rAY SHOT ON cHYNA in this interview. for 1 he claimed she wasnt athletic, she literally had a signature move where she flips from one corner of the ring diagnally to the other corner and you mean to tell me she wasnt athletic? chyna was a woman who they couldnt out in the ring with females because she was too strong, and yet he says these females would run circles around chyna? man Queen Chyna would PowerBomb all of those divas, im sorry but this interview makes me question Stevie Ray.
I find it ironic that some people who don't like what Stevie Ray said about Chyna will insult him but they haven't refuted what he said by saying that the majority of Chyna's matches are great. If you actually critique Chyna's matches, you will find that the majority of her matches were mediocre at best, terrible at worst. When you read the King Of The Ring 1999 review on different websites, people who mentioned the quarterfinal match between Chyna and Road Dogg said that it was bad. People also said that the Intercontinental title match between Jeff Jarrett and Chyna was bad. Even though Chyna was the first woman to enter the Royal Rumble, she eliminated Mark Henry only to be eliminated by Stone Cold Steve Austin, the time span was under 1 minute. The same thing happened in Royal Rumble 2000, but the only difference it that she eliminated Chris Jericho, only to be eliminated by Big Boss Man, the time span was also under 1 minute.
So Steive thinks Chyna wasn't pleasing to look at then she wasn't a ground breaking force to reckon with. She wrestled the biggest names and earned the same bruises as many of those in the biz
I agree, Chyna did hold my attention with her skills. She did surgery on her jaw line to look more feminine later in her career, I was a fan of hers when she broke away from Triple H
I agree with Stevie on the work aspect of Chyna. Chyna didn't really do anything. Her character was that of a body guard. She wasn't really a wrestler wrestler.
Stevie must have never watched Japanese women's wrestling. They have been dominating since the 80's. Dynamite Kid even commented during those days that a lot of them could wrestle circles around the men. Mariko Yoshida, Comando Bolshio, Minami Toyota, Yumiko Hotta, Chigusa Nagayo, Hokuto, Bull Nakano, Chaparita Asari etc. Amazing wrestlers from more than 20 years ago.
Exactly, many of these commenters just don’t want to admit the truth but, as someone who remembers the attitude era well, Stevie is right, Chyna was just a gimmick.
Lol back then then most females weren’t wrestling men it’s scripted but Chyna is more of a big name than Beth Phoenix I guarantee you most people know the name Chyna than the current female wrestlers today in my opinion Stevie Ray is just a hater.
Chyna was the bomb she was actually trained by the same coach as triple h which is a well respected wrestling teacher in the wrestling world she worked her butt of before she ever joined WWF so she deserved her spot and she was the first woman in the royal rumble so she was more than just a gimmick that guys a hater. Now let's talk about a real gimmick ,sable . She was never a wrestler had zero training she only did it for the fame she had a pretty face and nice body but she wasn't a wrestler and the only reason she became one was because vince thought she was hot but as far as experience sable wasn't experienced at all
It's way too easy to call Stevie Ray a hater but if you really examine Chyna's run as a wrestler, she was an overrated, mediocre wrestler. When she was in the 1999 Royal Rumble, she attacked and eliminated Mark Henry, only to be eliminated by Stone Cold Steve Austin 5 seconds later, and she was only in the Royal Rumble for one minute. The same thing happened the following year but she eliminated Chris Jericho only to be eliminated 5 seconds later by Big Boss Man, lasting one minute. There is nothing impressive about Chyna's total time lasting only 2 minutes. The Intercontinental title matches she was in was forgettable at best and they were not 5 star matches by any stretch of the imagination. The majority of ppv matches were 3 star matches at best. To say she was a gimmick is being generous.
Bigmetroidfan12 well fact is it’s scripted so it wasn’t chynas lack of wrestling that got her eliminated from the royal rumble and again Chyna was lifting dudes up over her head and her good house keeping match with Jeff Jarrett was a damn good pay per view match when she first won the title she worked her ass off even her body was amazing she did all kinds of crazy back flips and everything else and to wrestle with men is a good accomplishment for her and in my opinion she is way better than Charlotte flair and let’s be real Charlotte had connections and lots of help where Chyna started from the bottom the wwe didn’t even want Chyna until wcw expressed interest with her and Shane McMahon was the one who helped Chyna get into the wwe . And even some of the male wrestlers were gimmicks everyone said viscera was a horrible wrestler who use to hurt people when he would wrestle with them . Even the rock was a gimmick all he did was slap and spit on his hand or the rock bottom or people’s elbow or DDT or other than that his talking ability but he wasn’t a spectacular wrestler with a bunch of talent so it wasn’t only Chyna and this guy said he couldn’t sit threw women’s battle royal which is fine but chyna had talent and did a lot in her short time to try and take that away from her is crazy especially when some of the male wrestlers weren’t that good either
Guess he forgot about Jacqueline, Gail Kim, Bull Nakano, Alundra Blaze, et al if he's saying out of all the women's wrestling he's seen, only today's crop had talent.
He did not say that. Listen to his words again. He said he's never seen this many good women's wrestling all at one time before. Which is true. I've never seen 12 really good women's wrestlers all at one time. Possibly more than 12 really. When has the WWE ever had 12 female wrestlers that they could look at and say, put together a match and they do it? Before this era of women's wrestlers I would at most they have 4 or 5 at one time.
Alligatorfool Yeah, I was and am a huge Trish fan, but she's highly overrated. The thing that put her over the top was she was the fulfillment of what Vince had been looking for since the departure of Sable, a female superstar that legitimately looks like a model, but also can isn't afraid to take bumps. I will say, she's one of the most improved wrestlers I've seen come through WWE. She definitely came a long way. But she wasn't as well versed or as smooth in the ring as, say, Molly. She's great when consider the whole package and the story, but hardly a top wrestler from a technical perspective.
We saw Chyna mop the floor with Lita and Trish Stratus, Ivory, and go toe to toe with Chyna. I don't think Stevie Ray has seen Chyna in the ring much, and how could he, in Chyna's hey-day Stevie was on the other program.
Yep, Chyna was great for entertainment value, but she was so roided up it would be unfair to fight women... Her she even sounded like a man from the roids/hormones
I would love to hang out with Stevie Ray and have a beer one day. Watching these videos makes me think that he was so under used as a talent in his career. He is hilarious, naturally funny and seems like such a cool guy.
Chyna was on a different level so theres a difference but, the women who opened doors that often get overlooked was the Original women revolution from 2001 - 2005.
Naw you have to go back to the 1950s when Fabulous Moolah was running the scene for female wrestlers. Fabulous Moolah became NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) 3rd Woman’s Champion in 1956 and WWF did not exist until 1963. In the 1970’s, Moolah bought the rights to the championship, defending it until she joined WWF in 1983 and unaffiliated it NWA. So no Chyna didn't open doors she was a gimmick during the attitude era and wasn't as relevant after triple H became champion in 1999.
Wow! Stevie Ray full of crap saying Chyna did not pave the way for the current crop of female wrestlers to be taken seriously in the industry. Okay, she wasn't a beauty queen. Well, that's the problem we had with female wrestling before she came along. Everyone was a toned piece of eye-candy that couldn't even do most of the basic wrestling moves. Sable sure as heck looked good, couldn't wrestle for $#&%! Most of them couldn't. Thanks to Chyna, now they have to know how to wrestle. Stevie Ray talking about "Look at Charlotte Flair." Yeah, she's a Legacy. David Flair had zero ability, zero talent, and zero desire to be a wrestler. Ric Flair's daughter, different story. She probably knew more about the Business at age 5 than most of those older generation "Divas" knew by the time they got out of the Business because Vince decided they were too old! She just happens to look good. I think Stevie is jealous because Chyna achieved a level of success in the Business that he never did. Decades from now, wrestling fans will remember her. Him?? He'll be known as that dude who teamed up with Booker T back in their tag-team days. If he's remembered at all.
Love Beth Pheonix but she excelled in a weak era of women wrestling. I agree totally. Todays women wrestling is exciting. They're more than gorgeous. Charlotte Flair is my favorite wrestler right now. Not just favorite womens wrestler. Orton held that for a long time.
PRINCE NEVIAHIA I agree. Women’s wrestling used to be sooooo terrible. Those were bathroom breaks for me (unless Torrie was stripping down) when I was a kid. That’s not the case today.
It's a shame Madusa/ Alundra Blaze wasn't in her prime today, she would fit right in. In her prime there wasn't a big talented female roster like it is today.
The Fabulous Moolah was not pretty but she dominated women's wrestling for over 35 years....why? Because we loved to hate her...thats why. She did her job and did it very well.
@@Jburneyjr Yes! They actually wrestled! Chyna was really the body guard to Triple H. After that gimmick was over that was it for her. I know she took their break up hard as well but her body of work in wrestling isn't like the women you named.
You two had the best chemistry together for a podcast. Ive seen him do a podcast by himself and with others who dont drink apple juice or water on set but theyre not nearly as entertaining because you’re a funny guy!
Love her or hate her, Charlotte Flair is the epitome of female wrestling. She is athletic, strong and not ugly. She does stuff the men do and is a Class A specimen in the world of Pro Wrestling. Calling her a prodigy wouldnt be enough.
I totally agree although she’s not my favorite female wrestler nor do I think she’s better looking than mandy rose Alexa bliss ect but charlotte is best technical female wrestler of all time
One of the problems with today’s stars is that they are too visible outside the ring. In the old days they stayed in character. When you saw The Sheik in person, he was actually scary! You never saw him on a cereal commercial.
Nah, you’re just blinded by nolstalgia. Wrestlers always did stuff like commercial because that gave them moments to promote their show. Like who you used as an example, he literally did car commercials and you thumb wrestling commercials. And let’s not forget “Snap into a Slim Jim” with Macho Man...
@@Animedogfingamer you are thinking about modern wrestlers. The Sheikh I mentioned is NOT The Iron Sheikh, but the original. And Randy Savage did those commercials AFTER he retired, and was a color commentator.
I'll put it like this the chicks in this era of wrestling are gladiators. I totally agree with Stevie Ray their Fighters it's a reason they got a female war games now a match you would have not saw Sunny China or Sable in 🤷♂️
KingTriz412 that's the question. I mean if you seen WWE events, u can clearly see they are lacking in attendance because they haven't done anything new and haven't dropped that PG rated wrestling no one cares about.
Machete 87 rumor has it that they are about to lose their tv deal and maybe go out of business. So is there another company to take the cake or is wrestling dead?
there was a place in wrestling for Chyna. i thought the muscled-up female bodybuilder gimmick was a good idea, personally! But........she couldnt go worth a shit in the ring!
I agree...the idea was good...but many could have done it better. Ann Marie Crooks (in WCW as Midnight) was a far superior worker. Even Asya (Christi Wolf) was better.
Come on Stevie, Chyna wasn't bad to look at and I'm pretty sure she'd crush all the women today. She wasn't a man, just an incredible woman that had a sad end.
We're not talking about an actual fight here. I don't think it's wrong to say that Charlotte is 10x the wrestler Chyna was. It's actually not even close. Charlotte's ability in ring and promo dwarfs Chyna.
Then tell me, what did she start? Nothing. In school, when essay writing, we were told to "substantiate our contention." Tell me what she started. Nothing. If she started anything, you would've said what she started.
Well as you've taken that route I'll say that I'm sure they didn't tell you in school to draw fallacious conclusions the way you did there. _"If she started anything, you would've said what she started."_ - that's not true. S/he might have, but s/he easily might not have. Tons and tons of youtube comments state or imply things without elaborating or substantiating anything, this doesn't mean they can't - it can suggest to you that they can't, and it's fine to speculate on that, but it's not at all conclusive. I'm not taking their side in the merits of Chyna debate, I just didn't like your comment; if you're going to be obnoxiously self satisfied and call yourself MisterObjectivity to boot, you've really got to come correct.
Well did she do anything for women's wrestling? Like a Trish Stratus or something? Nope. She wrestled men (and badly at that). Everything she did benefited herself, not women's wrestling. And she left shortly after when they put the women's title on her.
Lysol Disinfectant Wipes Lol back then then most females weren’t wrestling men it’s scripted but Chyna is more of a big name than Beth Phoenix I guarantee you most people know the name Chyna than the current female wrestlers today in my opinion Stevie Ray is just a hater and if you don’t think Chyna is a legend that’s on you.

I thought she looked good, probably not so much at the beginning but later she got pretty freakin hot.
After Vince spent all of that money on her face... beginning Chyna had a square jaw...not pleasing to the eye

There is nothing impressive
about Chyna's total time lasting only 2 minutes.
Love how X-Pac is always made fun of over the Chyna thing. He was wasted that period of his life. Triple H was with her for 5 years sober....
Guess he forgot about Jacqueline, Gail Kim, Bull Nakano, Alundra Blaze, et al if he's saying out of all the women's wrestling he's seen, only today's crop had talent.
You left off Trish Stratus, Mickie James, and Victoria. All better than most on your list except Bull Nakano.
He must ain't see the knockouts during TNA glory days that's where the real women's evolution started at
Smokey Smoo Preach.
Stevie ray one of the most underrated and underrated players in the game .well spoken
Yeah. Steven Ray is pretty cool
When they brought up Harrison i lost it 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Am I the only one that just became a Stevie Ray fan after watching this?? He is hilarious!
Always loved booker. Now i have to slip this man into my #3 spot w him lmao.
Lol completely forgot about the guy...for almost 20 years. I only remember wondering why he didn't come over with Booker in the early 2000s
You are not alone
A mistake anyone could make.
Lol hahaha this is gold
We saw Chyna mop the floor with Lita and Trish Stratus, Ivory, and go toe to toe with Chyna.
I don't think Stevie Ray has seen Chyna in the ring much, and how could he, in Chyna's hey-day Stevie was on the other program.
"As she should have"
That was a very short and brutal statement. 🤣
She wrestled men!!!
As well as she should has....
😅🤣😂
She did so much steroids and growth hormone she grew a penis and basically was a man.
Yep, Chyna was great for entertainment value, but she was so roided up it would be unfair to fight women... Her she even sounded like a man from the roids/hormones
He's actually saying a truth, in a certain way...
Impressive to look at but ring skills, stiff like her penis. She could pick men up but overall wrestler, not good at all.
Daniel Lee, if you saw her porn, you’d know that penis statement is false.
MidwestOutsider707 no.
So no Chyna didn't open doors she was a gimmick during the attitude era and wasn't as relevant after triple H became champion in 1999.
luna, moolah, sherri martel. old skool set the way.
@John Doe
Dude, I haven't been young in decades. And you're delusional. So this is the only response you'll get from me. Have a good one.
I see his point.... IMO the true "mold" for the current Woman Wrestler would be Beth Phoenix, who was strong, beautiful and could GO in the ring
Love Beth Pheonix but she excelled in a weak era of women wrestling. I agree totally. Todays women wrestling is exciting. They're more than gorgeous. Charlotte Flair is my favorite wrestler right now. Not just favorite womens wrestler. Orton held that for a long time.
@@kxwhyknot8314 "they're more than gorgeous" lol.
🤮🤮🤮
@@kxwhyknot8314 I agree! Minus the whole Charlotte thing
No!
This to me is the golden years of women wrestling like Stevie said the best of women wrestling ever
PRINCE NEVIAHIA I agree. Women’s wrestling used to be sooooo terrible. Those were bathroom breaks for me (unless Torrie was stripping down) when I was a kid. That’s not the case today.
He's funny and seems to have the mentality of Jim Ross. I love people like Booker T and Triple H who are much more progressive and equal these days.
I wish Waltman would come out of nowhere and slap the taste out Stevie Ray's mouth for saying that.
"Make fund of him, you wanna make fund of him" -Stevie Ray
I have SO much respect for Stevie Ray!!!! Dude is smart, articulate, and real.
Gotta love Stevie Ray, he is real.
It's a shame Madusa/ Alundra Blaze wasn't in her prime today, she would fit right in. In her prime there wasn't a big talented female roster like it is today.
Stevie Ray is gold!!!
I watched this video today and the discussion about Hardbody Harrison nearly made me spit my drink out laughing.
Man..until I ran across this channel, I completely forgot about Harlem Heat and specifically Stevie Ray. Glad I did
"She wrestled me"
"As well as she should have" I'm dying
Stevie Ray is hilarious and a Savage ASF 😂😂😂 😂
Just a legit honest opinion from somebody who has been there done it and seen what it's like and now spits it real without no bias or bs
stevie ray is the funniest man ever
This is gold!!!!! 😂😂😂 this show is awesome. The guy comes with shotty facts and Stevie snapping on him for it! 😂
The Fabulous Moolah was not pretty but she dominated women's wrestling for over 35 years....why? Because we loved to hate her...thats why. She did her job and did it very well.
Yeesss she did and loved it for what she did!!!
Wow I disagree with Stevie Ray comments on Chyna Joanie Laurer
Looking at the history of the sport Sensational Sherry and Luna did more, and you can even throw the Fabulous Mula plus Mae Young.
@@Jburneyjr Yes! They actually wrestled! Chyna was really the body guard to Triple H. After that gimmick was over that was it for her. I know she took their break up hard as well but her body of work in wrestling isn't like the women you named.
Stevie looking at this guy like he a fool
Real tears when he said Hardbody Harrison lmao
Stevie must have forgotten being managed by Sherri, one of the most underrated female talents in wrestling
@3:00 that took me out, "as well as she should have" Stevie Keeps it all the way funky. I love it
Chyna is so remembered due to being in one of the most powerful factions in history. Skill wise she had nothing on Trish, Victoria and Jacqueline.
LMAO!! Was not expecting the Hardbody Harrison gag to continue.
RIP Chyna But When He Started Talking About Her Man I Was Dying
Rest In Peace Joanie Chyna Laurer despite Stevie Ray rambling you did add something to WWE
Cyna was over as hell, but she couldn't perform in the ring to save her life. It was Trish who broke the glass celling.
"She wrestled men" "As well as she shouldould have" LMAO dam Stevie Ray
FINALLY .....Someone says it !!!! Thank you Stevie Ray !!
I totally agree although she’s not my favorite female wrestler nor do I think she’s better looking than mandy rose Alexa bliss ect but charlotte is best technical female wrestler of all time
Lol Charlotte Flair isn't ugly, she looks like a horse face male with fake breast.
U guys are killing me with the Harrison stuff.
I truly look up to Stevie Ray
I'll put it like this the chicks in this era of wrestling are gladiators. I totally agree with Stevie Ray their Fighters it's a reason they got a female war games now a match you would have not saw Sunny China or Sable in 🤷♂️
Chyna wasn't in the company when wwf turn into wwe. She was only at the company during wwf days
I gotta agree that, for the most part (especially in wwe), the female roster is where it's at 🤘🏻
Stevie is just fucking with him simple
I want to know if Stevie Ray thinks that if there will be another wrestling company to compete with WWE?
KingTriz412 that's the question. I mean if you seen WWE events, u can clearly see they are lacking in attendance because they haven't done anything new and haven't dropped that PG rated wrestling no one cares about.
Machete 87 rumor has it that they are about to lose their tv deal and maybe go out of business. So is there another company to take the cake or is wrestling dead?
I can listen to Stevie Ray talk all day. I love this podcast.
Agreed I like chyna but she was cool with dx but that’s it
They could make that same Hardbody Harrison joke every 10 min and I'd laugh every time
I agree Steve Ray. Now Woman division is better than ever.
Lita broke the glass ceiling.
ahahaha killed me with the hardbody harrison ahahahaha
Hardbody could box for Real though
I love Stevie's David Arquette rebuttal that was hilarious.
there was a place in wrestling for Chyna. i thought the muscled-up female bodybuilder gimmick was a good idea, personally! But........she couldnt go worth a shit in the ring!
I agree...the idea was good...but many could have done it better. Ann Marie Crooks (in WCW as Midnight) was a far superior worker. Even Asya (Christi Wolf) was better.
Come on Stevie, Chyna wasn't bad to look at and I'm pretty sure she'd crush all the women today. She wasn't a man, just an incredible woman that had a sad end.
She wrestled men
As well she should have.
😂😂😂😂😂
Hahahagaahahw
Chyna was more successful then Stevie Ray in the business by far!!!
Bill Cosby's going to be a part of the medical team.
LMAO "as well as she should have...wrestled dudes" LMAOOOOO HILARIOUS
"Charlotte Flair would wrestle circles around China." He ain't lying haha.
If Chyna was alive she would beat the holy hell out Charlotte
We're not talking about an actual fight here. I don't think it's wrong to say that Charlotte is 10x the wrestler Chyna was. It's actually not even close. Charlotte's ability in ring and promo dwarfs Chyna.
Fuck no‼️ Chyna would have beat the crap out of Charlotte Flair , from promos to in the ring. That’s just non-sense right there
🤣🤣🤣🤣JESUS LORD HAVE MERCY THE END OF THIS VIDEO WAS PRICELESS
I LAUGHED LIKE A MORBIDLY OBESE MOVIE VILLAIN IN THE 1970
He's right that Charlotte would wrestle circles around Chyna but to say she started nothing is stupid
