Friday Live: Painting a Value study of a Silver Jug in Oils

- I'm playing with the amazing chromaMagic app again today.
It has this interesting feature that allows you to reduce a photo to value only, and then decide how many value steps you want.
I want to test out how useful this might be for making value studies.
So today, I'm going to take the photo above and reduce it to 5 values in chromaMagic.
Yes, 5. And two of those will be white and black.
Then, using those same 5 values mixed exactly to the real world Munsell value scale, I'm going to do a painting of it.
Along the way, I hope to show that just with:
. good values
. (hopefully) reasonable drawing
. some careful edge handling
...you can make a convincing feeling of form.

My last object was a silver tin damaged at the corner. I really got the silver values and went to Art galleries to check body armour on Knights on horseback. I took photos and used as reference. Nice work again Paul. 😎👍👍👍

These values are mixed from lead white, raw umber and ivory black, and matched to the Munsell value scale I use in the video

Hi Paul, do you know if it’s possible to buy the Munsell scale in Europe anywhere please, as US incurs high delivery plus customs charges on top of the product.
I don't, sorry. There's a pantone one but it's horrendously expensive and not worth it. I don't think you'd attract customs charges for something as cheap as this though. Granted delivery would be expensive.
