SCTV Channel #18 uncut Last Show

- SCTV's 18th and final show from season 6 on Cinemax in 1984.
The budget for the final season of SCTV ran out and episode 18 was a bust, so they got inventive and conceived another Pledge Week concept which required no sets, cinematography etc., interspersed with an old movie (Of Human Bondage) with the dialog overdubbed, under the title of The Steve Beshekas Story. Steve was a Chicago legend who was in John Belushi's first Improv group, The West Compass Players, along with Tino Insana.
SCTV did the same maneuver as this one in the final episode of season 3 when an overdubbed version of "Laugh Track's" The Cisco Kid was aired to fill the void (featuring Martin Short who would not become a cast member until years later ).
Catherine O'Hara was not a regular cast member at the time of this episode but she returned for one of her many special appearances in this wonderful, uncut finale. - Фільми й анімація
Hey SCTV fans, listen to Juul Haalmeyer tell never before heard stories about John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, and the cast of SCTV in this new interview: anchor.fm/sctvpod/episodes/Ep--9-SCTV-Costume-Designer-Juul-Haalmeyer-e10oct9
She is a beautiful woman! Was and still is!!
I'm still madly in love with Catherine O'Hara. These people were ALL so BRILLIANT. This is STILL one the GREATEST shows in television history...and the FUNNIEST.
Who isn't,
I’m in that club too. What a talented and hilarious lady.
Ew
She is fabulous in Schitts Creek
You and me both. She is a total knockout. She’s comedy genius I think. This whole team of actors blew SNL out of the water. They created fully formed characters. Just genius.
The phone numbers still work !!! Call now to get SCTV back on the air !!!
Catherine O'hara and Andrea Martin the TWO FUNNIEST FREAKING WOMAN EV-VER ON TV!
PERIOD!!
I agree but I also have to add a third - Stephnie Weir's work on MadTV - also Brilliant !
Period!

Im not going to lie i haven't had a TV since - 1988(?). So I never watched that show. But maybe I'll bring up some clips if you guys say so.
Soon as I SCTV came on i was always telling people - "SatNtLive ... ain't that funny."
I think Will Ferrell got his Mugatu "NOTHING .. YOU'VE GOT NOTHING !!!" scream from Lola at 13:35
Robin Duke was hilarious as well. No weak cast members.
Forty years later, it still makes me angry that arguably the greatest sketch comedy show in history ended with such little fanfare. Yet, it's somehow in keeping with the show's history--it began as a barely-funded, unknown ensemble show on Global TV in Toronto & ended up on a cable network barely seen. But in between, they created a comedic legend, usually with one camera, one mic, & no gerbils! #LaRue4Ever
The departure of Rick, Dave & John for Hollywood really did a number on their ratings.
Still plenty of great material, just not as much.
Catherine O'Hara, Lola Heatherton, The false Vibrato, and The needy alcoholic loose woman character Love SCTV!!
Her laugh and the “I WANNA BEAR YOUR CHILDREN!”
Makes me so happy new generations have discovered O’Hara and Levy and they’re still knocking em dead. Martin Short, too.
Still the most underrated and under appreciated collection of talented writers and actors ever assembled. Saturday Night Live is not in the same universe as SCTV.
28:20 Martin Short as Grimley singing like Robert Goulet is just the best , I must say.
Totally genius - best comedy show ever.
And done on an absolute shoe-string budget--amazing. Andrea Martin has said that when SCTV was made in Edmonton they hired students to help in the productions and many of them worked for next to nothing as they absolutely loved working on the show and the cast
The Very Last One!
SCTV went out with a BANG!!!!!!
We didn't have cable back then so I was heartbroken when SCTV moved to "pay TV." Thank you for uploading these Michael and making a little boy happy!
Awesome. Lola singing a James Brown tune! SCTV - Thee Best sketch comedy TV show EVER
My god, the film dubbing was brilliant!!! And of course Marty Short's amazing Bette Davis. This cast had talent that was out of this universe.
The number of SCTV alums that became stars is incredible.
SCTV was quite literally a parody of itself, which is why it worked so well.
Thank you so much for this! I got Cinemax back in 1983 just so I could continue to watch SCTV. This episode is the funniest 37.50 minutes in TV history!
Video Novelties right you are. I'm so glad to see this again.
Leslie Howard's portrayal of Steve Beshekas was some of the finest acting I've ever witnessed.
SCTV - thanks for so many twisted, hilarious shows!
This is a typical SCTV entire show … definitely a specific kinda humor … I always liked it
...I couldn't watch anymore cause They were moved to pay tv or star channel, was very heartbroken!
I can not thank you enough for this priceless gift. Thank you SO VERY, VERY MUCH.
When i was a teenager i used to watch this every night on channel 2, public access television . We had cable tv back then but i didnt have it in my room. I had a little t.v. that i watched this everynight at 10:30PM before going to bed, brings back so many memories!
Black like Vic was the first real Film Noir I saw.
Noir like Vic :)
They did those hammy schmaltzy showbiz types so well.
The Ed Grimly bit is pure character genius.
I LOVE EDITH PRICKLEY SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goddess of Quirk, Mistress of Mirth, so cute and a hellova singing voice :)
Andrea Martin is a gem ^_^
Possibly Lola Heatherton's greatest performance ( 10:00 ). I almost caught her Vegas show in 83, but the gig was cancelled due to an E.coli breakout in the buffet room.
You did know who Lola was didn't you?was Catherine O'Hara
"I wanna bear Lola Heatherton's children! Haa! Haaa." Great character.
BRILLIANT Final Show !!!! THANKS for putting this on UA-cam !
Best comedy show ever.
Damn Lola was on FIRE!
This entire cast was beyond brilliant and talented; it's mind-boggling.Television has never seen anything before or since as inventive and unpredictable. Like taking a hit of LSD and chasing it with a joint. All the performers and characters were favorites, but in particular, I now realize how funny and talented Catherine O'Hara was. Her Lola Heatherton is one for the ages. And I can't get that laugh out of my head. HAHAAAA!
Actually, it's HAAAAHaa!
@@labluvver I stand corrected----I guess??? Wow, you must have a lot of free time on your hands.
@@thomashumphrey7395 any SCTV fan would know that. Maybe cut back on the LSD.
@@labluvver I must say...
Yes she was great. 😂 They were all great.
Martin Short is the perfect nerd. Miss this show!
SCTV is a nice big slice of Canadiana.
A cavalcade of stars come out to shine during pledge week.
According to Wiki "for its final season, the show moved to pay-TV channels Superchannel in Canada and Cinemax in the United States, changing the name slightly to SCTV Channel". It must have moved back to Toronto for shooting because I recognize a lot of Toronto technician names.
Coming out of the break near the 20:00 mark with "Rectum? he damn near killed 'em!" LOL
8:25, Martin Short went _all in_ as Jackie Rogers Jr., including keeping his eyes crossed for the entire bit, and Bittman is the G.O.A.T!
Ouch that’s so painful even for a short time.
Now that's how you end a show! They were all great, every one of them. Long live SCTV!
Guy and Edith at the end. Couldn't believe that this show didn't last longer.
On a side note. I never really noticed how sexy Andrea Martin's legs were. Wow.
SCTV could have gone on but alas all good things must come to pass. Martin Short already had one foot out the door and was headed to SNL. Andrea Martin and Eugene Levy wanted to do feature films. And Joe Flaherty just wanted to take a break after 8 years of playing Floyd Robertson and a bevy of others. So SHOWTIME pulled the plug, unlike SNL which has become the obnoxious relative who doesn't want to leave and overstays his/her welcome. Long live SCTV!
Lola hetherton , this show was a crack up.
Oh Lola, how you go uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh with those notes! 12:40
Let’s not forget to give credit to the creators and make up artists behind this gem.
Growing up in the 80s I got to watch SCTV and Mystery Science Theatre 3000 on my grandparents satellite dish. I think its why I have always been the class clown/comedian in the group.
Thank god Ms Prickley, thank god that there'll always be an Sctv to make us laugh and forget about our worries for awhile.God bless Melonville.
Love this! Thanks for sharing!!!
WHAT A JOY to see this show again! Nothing else comes close! The improv of the movie had me on the floor! Every ONE of these performers is brilliant. The laugh track was awful; wish they had filmed in front of a live audience, but that's a minor point. I'm so happy many of them became big stars.
"That's incredible; I've never seen anything like that before! Arf! Arf!"
Wow, they were down to a shoestring cast of four back then.
Yeah. With John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Rick Moranis, and Dave Thomas gone, it just wasn't the same. Though Flaherty, Levy, Martin, and Short did their best to not make the final season of their show feel like season six of Saturday Night Live or season five of In Living Color or season 15 of MADtv.
28:16 Ed Grimley sings like Jim Nabors, I must say.
The voice you'd least expect coming from shy little Ed :)
His baritone reminds me of Robert Goulet.
OMG Edith PRICKLY 😂😂😂🤭😆🤣
One of the funniest episodes of the series.
The inspiration for Whose Line Film Dubs.
If this ending leaves you sad, you can always just rewatch episode #85 “Pledge Week” wherein the station gets saved and keeps on plugging away. 🤷
Love love love sctv!
Snl borrowed so much from these original skits like maudlin show chaos. Such great satire of real tv and film.
I reamber these shows as a kid they don't make like they used to
The INCOMPARABLE Lola Heatherton!
Ed Grimley as Oliver, hahahaha, just pure gold, man.
33:05 guy cabellero changed his name & started some pillow company. Lol 😂 Mike Lindell 🤣
Decent cover of James Brown's It's a Man's Man's Man's World. 12:40
She does a perfect Grace Slick 🍭
Watching this episode was bittersweet. I've seen most of the episodes a few times but hadn''t seen the finale until now. Although there were funny moments, its evident they were still chugging along but running on fumes. And they knew it. The Steve Bashekis Story is either the longest skit they ever did or just feels like it.
Its still a good episode considering half the cast wasn't there - if you count John''s magnanimous presence twice, which is fair - which was sad. It seems like the last season had more cameo appearances than regular performers. How great would it have been if everyone could have been all together one final time, in a fun, feelgood episode like the Christmas episodes.
However, considering their humble beginnings, the way they played it was fitting - wanly petering out and leaving Edith Prickley, perhaps the series' longest running character - Andrea first played Edith in the stage show - to turn out the lights.
Or does she? An awful lot of those phones were ringing......
I never saw this last episode until now. Kinda sad to see it but there will never be another one like it. Of course my favs are Catherine and Andrea. I love them dearly.♥
So funny and brings back fond memories...beauty, eh?
Of Human Bondage is the black and white they were spoofing!
Don Parrish from CHFI added such class to the show. He was my favourite on air host from that time frame
24:31 -OOOF! Right in the schnutts!
That Black and White skit was sheer brilliance!
Lola, now that was a performance !!! Its a Mans world !!
The best!
Duane Eddy *did* make a comeback the very next year!
This is what happens when you commit to your craft.
Harvey the Imaginary Rabbit was a serious character.
Before There was Comedy Central, There was Comedy and Music on HBO and Cinemax
Thanks, almost well worth taping over Stupid Pet Tricks at the end.
Black Like Vic. I wonder how that show would go over today!
Not PC!
Edith and guy capalerio....Prickly's wisdom speech on whats and guys hes learned...hes leaned...:" u cant count ! on the next guy I got to do it on your own, my ray of sunshine to slice through that CLOUd... phone rings..."dotn tell me ...its for you guy... U haven't seen the end of SCTV whefeever there are people there will be SCTV where ever there are good folks there will always be. SCTV..."
Lola Heatherton aka Joey Heatherton doing James Browns "Its A Mans World" The Best ❤❤❤
Catherine said Lola Falana.
@@VHScape But this character looks like Joey Heatherton not lola Falana at all.
17:48 Troy Soren was an under rated character
This is a wonderful collection....takes me back to the 80's nicley...a talented group before political right became an agenda
How can one stage contain Bittman, Rogers Jr., and Heatherton?
love shorts promotion of his album "did she call?????"
Only 4 stars left. Andrea Martin, Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, and Eugene Levy?
BTW, that is a blockbuster lineup. GWNorth with Dave and Rick is gone? sad.
MST3K must have watched SCTV
Lola Heatherton! Va va va voom! But where is Mara Corday?
"...oh yes, I'm bitter..."
My God Martin Short so great and Lola heatherton based on the obnoxious actress Joey heatherton how LOL is that
Hello! Do you happen to also have a copy of the “George Burns Comedy Week” pilot “The Dynamite Girl” starring Catherine O’Hara. It aired on CBS Wednesday, September 18, 1985. If so PLEASE upload!!!! Or if you know where to buy/find a copy, let me know that too!!! Thanks in Advance!!
I have a copy of both Dynamite Girl and Home for Dinner (with Joe Flaherty and Eugene Levy) from George Burns Comedy Week. I will share them.
Michael Delaney Thank you so much, Michael! I have been searching for Dynamite Girl for so long. I’ve talked to so many people. This episode is known as “the white whale” of comedy. I’m just so insanely excited. You have no idea. Very grateful to you!!!
@@angeleoutwest7288 I'm sure you've seen The Last Polka and Catherine & Andrea presenting the PMS short film on the Letterman Holiday Film festival.
Michael Delaney I’ve seen both films but not O’Hara & Martin presenting it on Letterman. Was looking for that. If you have it, would LOVE to see. I’m doing an “oharathon” where I’m trying to watch every single thing CO’H has ever done. So, per chance, if you have any of these oldies, am looking for these:
“Late Last Night"
“Oh Baby"
“Bram & Alice"
“Odd Job Jack” 1.09
“The Hidden Room” 2.12
“From Cleveland”
“You’ve Come A Long Way Katie”
“The Wayne & Schuster” Superspecial, Special and Show.
“Rimshots”
“Coming up Rosie”
“Andrea Martin Together Again”
1978 CBC pilot: “Fit to Print”
Thanks again!!!!
@@angeleoutwest7288 I will upload the entire Letterman show with interviews.
Hilarious Bette Davis movie.
It was of human bondage, with Leslie Howard and Bette Davis.
No no, "Bette David" per the credits.
Eugene Levy was fucking hilarious as the Professor!
I must say these guys are sooo
🤣 Funny. So mental.
The movie is " of human bondage". Bette davis, leslie howard, bette is fabulous!
I'm laughing my butt off.
Why do I have a thing for Edith Prickley?
She's a kick in the pants! Pppbp- hah!
I can get behind your comment!!
Because she unapologetically owns her libido!
Who doesn't?
Her and Pirini Scleroso.
Early Mighty Wind! 23:00
What the hell is she lookin at 😂
Well here I am.
eightieslicious!
I'm torn between Catherine O'Hara and Lola Heatherton. Can I be in love with two women at the same time?
Rectum? It damn near killed him!
