I have a ford work truck that says check trailer wiring or something like that even when there's no trailer connected. In fact we've never had a trailer connected to it.
I would recommend totally rewiring the trailer lights (only the driving lights) and just run a 4 pin connector. That'll take care of any issues with your truck thinking there's trailer brakes and is a pretty easy job.

Probably a loose ground, the bumps and shaking around would be be my guess.

Hey man make sure nun of your wires are cute. That’s where I would start then check the plug.
Also make sure you hitch has a good ground. Your hitch counts as the ground
Looks like 4 wire plus 12V charge. Test the red for 12V from your battery, if it's there connect to the 12V charge pin and then your trailer battery will charge as you tow.
Caution, GM does NOT switch this pin. If you have a weak battery on the trailer it will draw down the truck battery when parked for an extended period.

Did You ever fix the Electrical issue
Put a 90 degree brass elbow fitting leaving the tank. That way the hose will be protected from hits in the future. 😃
