I have been on a real Cheng Pei-pei binge recently and she doesn't get as much credit as she should. I even half enjoyed Raw courage, but it's not her best is it? The early Wuxia Shaw films aren't my favourite studio period, and you are right, she is a real star of that period, her films really stand out. You provide excellent jumping in points for anyone trying to navigate Shaw expansive output, because from personal experience, its not easy!
No, it's not easy, which is exactly why I started the "...Goes to China" series. I'd love to give other fans a leg up on knowing their way around Shaw films. This comment makes me very happy to have helped. You may have inspired me to do something on a Ti Lung trilogy of Gu Long adaptations I really love - baffling but fun and they actually tie together better than many Shaws lit adaptations.
@@paulthomas3247 hooray, it makes me happy that you are going to be doing more Goes to China films. I feel kind of sorry for the folk who make some of the blu ray choices as to what to release, because every Shaw fan will have a different perspective as to what should come out, generally shaped by their own viewing experience and as we both know their output is huge, varies wildly in quality and is hard to pigeonhole... Image if your entry point was Coward bastard or Tales of the eunuch? Looking forward to more instalments mister.
This is a fabulous film.
