In this episode our crews recorded the entire trip of Riverside Transit Agency Route 200 from the first stop in Anaheim to the last stop at the San Bernardino Transit Center.
RTA Route 200 is one of eight long distance commuter link express routes within the Riverside transportation system. From the 1960s thru 1990s this route originally traveled from Long Beach through Orange County on its way to Riverside proper and was operated by the Southern California Rapid Transit District as Line 149 (SCRTD, 1989).
RTD Line 149 was later canceled when the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino created the Inland Empire Connection (IEC) in 1990 (Novak, 2014). The new IEC Route 149 operated alongside the former RTD route from the Mall of Orange in Orange County to downtown Riverside by way of the 91 Freeway (RTA, 1995; Novak, 2014), the western and some eastern portions of the former line was assumed by OCTD, a predecessor agency to present day OCTA and to the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA). RTA took over the eastern operations and incorporated the route into the RTA system as Route 149 and Route 216 (Transit News, 2014).
In January of 2018, RTA introduced Route 200 as an express lane only service connecting San Bernardino, Riverside, the Village at Orange, and Disneyland while consolidating Routes 149 and 216 (SBCTA, 2018). Route 200 connects three southern California counties and the ride is 54.1 miles or 88.0 km long one way (Rome2Rio, 2019).
From the first stop at Disneyland, Route 200 makes local stops in Orange County, Riverside County and ending at the San Bernardino Transit Center.
These are scenes of that afternoon.
