Guess I made a few mistakes on the way. Should have never sown the bent so late last year, then I shouldn’t have sprayed it out so late as well. Good way to learn from mistakes though I guess!
@@LawnTips it’s been a fun journey anyway if you didn’t make mistakes you wouldn’t have as much content and will just make it sweeter once it’s looking schmick
I've been waiting for this video. Propluggers are awesome. So good that Reel Solutions have imported them. I paid a ridiculous amount to buy off eBay, but I love mine.
Can also go around the edges of the bare patch and turn the plug ,half and half ,will help with moving it across ,it’s good cause your also sort of aerating it as well.I forgot to mention the type of couch we had in Bundaberg was tif dwarf either 419 or 328 cultivars.you could nearly watch it grow in the humidity up there.
Thanks for video. Just received mine today. I loved your video. I never thought of swapping the bare plugs back into the good areas and vice versa. Thought I'd have to buy a heap of potting soil to fill in the holes. Well done.
I had that same " pizza lawn syndrome" too, and your right ! I used Sea Kelp and Humic acid and now they are 6 to 8 inches deep. Cool season in the P.N.W. USA
I'm an IT nerd and I don't know the first thing about grass. But I've heard these Propluggers are a cheap way to get a lawn started as well. I don't get out on the yard much, but I'm tight. If I can save a few dollars I'll get out there.
Couple of weeks ago I did about 600 plugs of tiftuf with one of these (ordered from the US), the tiftuf was laid 4 weeks ago as turf, I used the shortest depth setting ring, we have had plenty of rain and every single plug has survived. Needless to say I am impressed and bought one for my mother to help her spread her Zoysia. Quick tip, don’t tip out the plugs...when full of turf plugs, just start taking plugs from the place you want them and they pop out the top ready to plant :)
Yes also agree with this tip as a time saver and ease of use, fill to top with good plugs first then move over to the area to repair and swap one by one as they pop out the top.
If the lawn is about 50% damaged in one small spot or lets say the main area around the hole, you could spay some medium to high strength aloe concentrate its not that expensive but has fast effects especially if humidity's constant
About 2 weeks ago I finally got the last bit of couch(unsure what type) out of my folks sir walter buffalo lawn, as an experiment I chucked the few bits in the front yard as a test to see if it would take. After 5 days it had rooted itself, and it has now started to creep like a bastard. Makes me wish my folks wanted couch instead of the buffalo hahahaha
Oh the irony, you're trying to keep your eye alive whilst I can't get rid of mine that I used to oversees last winter and I'm in southeast Qld. Everytime it looks like its just about dead we get a bucket load of rain and it goes absolutely bonkers. Oh well, still getting better slowly.
Yo mate what up. Any tips on a bit of drainage, my back lawn feels like there’s a layer of water under it for a few days after rain. Grass looks neat until you walk on it. Your videos make me want to get the best lawn in the neighbourhood
Hey Ben, you seem to be chasing your tail with the turf mate...by the end of the season the tiftuf will be filled in but then the temps will drop and it will go dormant. Same with the bent, it was looking ok but only at the end of the season. Now the rye is giving you grief. Hope you can get on top of it mate, do love the vids thanks.
That’s why I’m not doing the bent this year. Put it behind because I sprayed it out late. I sowed the bent to late as well. Few mistakes on my behave and I guess I’m paying the price. Happy to always document my success and failure 👌🏽
How do you think this would work with KBG? I've got some areas that are super dense and healthy but others that are pretty sparse. Wondering if this might be an option to help things fill in rather than more seeding. I know it will spread eventually but maybe doing the plugs would help expedite things.
Nah just standard. But I did shoot in 4K 10 bit. Makes a huge difference with the dynamic range and colour 👌🏽 Upgraded my camera 3 weeks ago from a Sony A7III to the A7sIII
Creeping grass... It works by the new bit off grass expanding and growing from the plug you created.. If it's not a creeping grass then you would just get a small plug of grass growing in the bare patch..
@@LawnTips awesome, I guess I have about 2 months to go. I'll jump on it this weekend. Unless with what I told you via email it'll stress the lawn too much
I've been looking at a plugged for a long time. Mainly because I have a salad bar lawn but friends with certified varieties to poach from. BUT Do they really work out any better than sod considering the attention, water, fert and keeping weeds at bay that plugs need?
Maybe it's your climate down under where you are, but I feel like my Bermuda is far more aggressive than the TifTuf you have on the green. Like it's taking it forever to fill in those bare spots.
@@LawnTips ahhh!!! Well, there’s your problem! My Bermuda doesn’t usually rage with growth until night time temps are consistently above 65 (freedomheit, lol).

Last Aussie 😁. Who would have known, Ben , you’ve become a pro at plugging. 😁👍👍

How do you make your grass green
Hi, i have very sandy soil, do you think a plugger would work?
How do you think this would work with KBG? I've got some areas that are super dense and healthy but others that are pretty sparse. Wondering if this might be an option to help things fill in rather than more seeding. I know it will spread eventually but maybe doing the plugs would help expedite things.
Can this be done to get Kikuyu to grow in areas where you transplant the plugs into? Or plugs and kikuyu don't really work?
You bought a Billy goat 🐐 aerator?! Taking your gear to the next level 👌
Got one on the way 🤙🏼
I’m going to use it so much 😂 will be so handy!
Shit jokes never get old hahah
Beny boy, lovin' the fact that we are getting a Wed vid, but what hour do you call this?...I figured it was midday or nothing for your vids.
Time to tiftuff the whole lawn
You ever thought about filling the holes with a soil/sand mix instead of the plug? not the good plug. I'm talking about the bare plug
I payed sand before I laid my turf. Would it still work for that?
My clay would be the ultimate test
Anyone got tips on this for buffalo?
Did you shoot this in a log profile? That dynamic range towards the end was crazy good.
