    Nah, no Chinese evs are being exported to the US currently and raising tariff at best will remain the status quo. Chinese EVs will continue to dominate the world while the US's domestic car prices will rise naturally due to no real competition. So in the end Americans will just end up paying more for less and become less competitive globally

      As the largest oil importer, China is determined to develop electric vehicles. Even if the western countries stop promoting electric vehicles, China will continue.
      Besides environmental protection, China also wants to change its energy structure.
      In addition, many countries in the world are short of oil, and there is also a demand for electric vehicles. I just saw a news that the share of electric vehicles in new cars sold in Nepal has reached 60%.

    The problem is that Chinese EV car selling at $10K has similar quality to US or EU EV cars selling at %35K. That is the real trouble. They are not selling CHEAP AND LOW QUALITFY PRODUCTS. They are selling products with high quality and price ratio. And they can do that FOREVER and still have a profit. They are NOT dumping the market. They simply can do it better and with much higher efficiency. That is why Yellen cannot use the word "market dumping" but "overcapacity".

    The Chinese do not have to depend on the US or EU to sell automobiles. Latin American is over a half of billion people in population. Africa is 1.2 billion people. These low cost EVs will be in high demand in Latin America and Africa and will be more cost effective for their economies. I went to Panama City recently and all they drive there is Suzuki which is Japanese. I went into different malls and all they sold was xiaomi and huawei. Their store’s look like the Apple Store. So the Chinese do not need the US or EU. They can tariff all they want but that’ll hurt the US more. Musk will need to find another way to lower EV prices and start selling abroad.

      Forget about Africa for now, maybe in a decade or so. EVs in Africa will probably be a very small % because there's no infrastructure for EV vehicles. They need to build the electric power plants first, and then things will change. Right now, there are a lot of power cuts, especially in the Southern region. From Zambia, all the way to South Africa. North of Zambia, pretty much not ready for EVs. In Sab Saharan Africa, only 1 in 5 people has access to electricity, so having an EV no matter how cheap it will be will just be a waste of money. So Africa will have to move fast to create new power plants.

U.S. auto industries can not compete. BYD's U8 is priced at $130,00 and the U9 is almost double that but both vehicles are comparable or exceed vehicles priced five times as much. Its not about tariffs - the US just hasnt been big in manufacturing for years focusing on tech but also financial services. Tariffs of 10000% will not magically transform US manufacturing capability. Blaming China for intellectual property theft and copying is just an excuse - in the 60's older people remember everyone saying Japanese cars were rubbish and were cheap copies of western cars, I remember in the 80's everyone saying anything from Taiwan is just junk or a copy....while at the same time look what was happening in Detroit.....Blaming China for unfair trade is also a red herring - check the WTO - The US has the highest amount of complaints against it for unfair trade. The EU is pretty high too. China is very low on the list. All this blaming China is created by media and politicians who are unhappy at the rise of China, but at the end of the day are doing the people in the US and the West a great disservice. Rather they should be working hard to compete fairly by creating a society which, rather than looking over their shoulder at other countries working hard, should be looking to roll up their sleeves and work hard to forge a better future. At the same time the number of STEM students and engineers is dropping around the West - everyone wants to be a big shot lawyer or a 'manager' or work in a bank in finance - nobody wants to get their hands dirty or study hard and make stuff - because making stuff is hard, studying maths, physics, science and computer programming is hard and manufacturing and engineering takes creativity, drive, intelligence, resilience, sacrifice and effort and on top of that, requires entrepreneurship and risk-taking. The energy that built the US to be the world's strongest nation use to be like that but it seems people are more concerned now with social / philosophical issues, ignoring the fact that you need to eat first to be happy and that eating requires you, as a society, to work hard. Rather than worrying about abstract social issues, if people in the west really want to make a difference to society, they should perhaps look for a start at building infrastructure and housing - its a disgrace that the richest countries in the world can no longer house its people. I worry about future generations living in the west.

      Well it’s a little more complex than that. The importer in USA pays the tax before consumer even sees the car. If car sits or isn’t sold the Chinese company has paid tarriffs and isn’t seeing reimbursement. In many cases importing company may not pass entire tarriffs to consumer and is part of cost of goods sold in USA. Yes consumer pays more put initial cost is all on Chinese car company trying to import the car.
      Chinese know this as China has far more tarrifs on US goods than US does on China. I was an importer for US company and we paid hundreds of millions in tarrifs every year to Chinese government. China was most expensive place in world for us to sell our products due to Chinese communist government.

Although competitive Chinese automaker BYD isn’t yet slated to enter the U.S. market, the company’s recent release of a city EV with a price tag under $10,000 has some worried for when it and other low-cost companies do.
      BYD launched its Seagull, a small hatchback EV with a price tag starting at 69,800 yuan (~$9,773), at the Shanghai Auto Show last year. If you ask most new car buyers if they would buy a car where they had to replace the engine in 10 years, they would say "NO" even if they planned on keeping the car a short term because of this impact on the resale value.
    So then why would any new car buyer want an EV or Hybrid where the battery pack needs to replaced or is severely underperforming in 10 years?
    Whether it's an ICE or an EV battery pack, 10 years life is insufficient.

    I kind of interpret many post on here as acknowledging that we're reaching a market peak, in general, which is a well-supported thesis, and so if you've been sitting back chill while the gains roll in because bull market, well, time for traders to stay sharp, many are expecting volatility, probably a sharp downturn, smart traders should check their risk management is in shape, time to pay attention. The timing of his post vs what I know about the market supports that well enough. But yeah, the post could mean anything.....managed to grow a nest egg of around 100k to a decent 432k in the space of a few months... I'm especially grateful to Kerrie Farrell, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape....

    What isn’t talked about is the used EV car market, nor insurance and repairs. All of which are absurd. EVs depreciate at a ridiculous rate. Have you seen a used EQS, EQE, Taycan,ETron GT, Mach-E, and so on? Piling up on lots and fire sales to get rid of them. They lose 40%-65% value in a year, can take multiple months to fix a small issue, and insurance companies will total them quickly. How is any company going to make money with EV development now that the world market is quickly saturating and everyone outside of China is pivoting to hybrids/ICE.

    • @SteveLomas-k6k
      @SteveLomas-k6k 7 місяців тому +2

      That's the bottom line, most EVs were bought by corporate fleets, for all the incentives- but ultimately whatever value is artificially added by incentives, is what you lose when you sell the car on the used/free market. This only didn't show up for a couple of years, because lockdown supply issues were propping up the used prices also.

  • @dwchen1
    @dwchen1 7 місяців тому +1

    What China can do right now is China don't need US automotive market because if you count the overall global automotive market then US is not that significant because US is only 1 country.
    So China can sell their EVs to dozens and dozens of emerging market around the world like South East Asia, South America, Middle East, East Europe, Central and South Asia, and Africa, all these market are on the gradual raise for a foreseeable future.
    A decade or 2 decade from now US automotive market will become so insignificant and China will feel nothing if they cant sell their cars to the US.
    And for now nobody say anything about what kind of fate US car brands had on the global market and that is China's next target which is decimating US car brand's market share outside the US.
    Everybody knew US car brands can't compete with Japanese and European car brands, now Chinese car brands enter the game.
    Everybody still remember when GM along with Volkswagen dominated the Chinese car market, like when GM can sold 3.9 million cars(more than what they sold in the US), Ford sold 1.4 million cars, Chrysler sold 600.000 cars in China back in 2017. Now all that is gone, especially Chrysler.
    To keep their market share GM joint venture with Chinese manufacturer to create new Chinese brand solely for Chinese market because GM knew their brands like Chevrolet is no longer attractive for Chinese buyers due to political and sentimental issue Washington has created.
    So you will see US car brands in the near future can only sell and dominate US home market while outside the US their market share shrink to near zero.
    Example Mexican and Brazilian car market where Chinese brands making huge noise over there where Mexican and Brazilian consumers praising Chinese cars for their affordability, rich features, latest tech, and catchy models. While GM, Ford, and Chrysler kept selling their boring and expensive options where they are no longer attractive anymore.
