So Jennifer is just a ruse, an alias as we call it. Ashrah is the heroine in this movie. She was born in Netherrealm, BUT her soul is pure.
Super heroine
No more like she was a demon but basically demons live for eternity and she slowly developed emotions which led to her journey to being pure

I Can't believe how in Battle of the Realms, Johnny was a punching bag that got easily defeated by D'Vorah when he beated SHINNOK BY HIMSELF BEFOREHAND, AND HE NEVER GOT TO USE THIS TO GLOAT AT HIS ENEMIES!

Just to clarify, this movie occurs before Scorpion's Revenge and Battle of the Realms, so he didn't actually got Ashrah(just a nice kiss), and went straight to Sonya's arms where he probably got to have a real relationship.
