Damn, Alan Lee did an amazingly excellent job with Shang Tsung. He replicates Hiroyuki Tagawa's speech patterns well, he's a younger Hiroyuki Tagawa now.
Which is likely exactly what they were looking for! It’s great! Hoping Quan Chi will sound just as good, since he was also recast!

He did a great job. There were some lines where I had to pause and listen again because they sounded almost identical.
@@VuLinhAssassin even though the game is set in present day, everybody is far younger, besides the royal family, of course as they are still thousands of years old.

I love how Shang Tsung here is made both intimidating, yet a bit vulnerable, you can really tell in some moments that he's really pinned down and not always he has a snarky comeback line or a clever plan to get him out of here. It is a nice change from almost indestructuble presence in MK11 (Even though we all love watching him stepping into every fight talking like he've already won)
It's a little sad that he says he prefers dying to what Liu Kang did to him. Honestly, Liu Kang could have done better. Given him a purpose instead of making him a homeless rat.
@@tiaaaron3278 To be honest, he did try well wish Shao, made him a renowned general of Outworld's army, and he still ended up being a bastard. Some things seem to be constant in every timeline, and Shao and Shang's evil seems to be one of those things.

The Shang Tsung in MK11 has had schemes upon schemes prepared, while this one is only just beginning.
@@tiaaaron3278Nah Shang is just a trash person. We don't know much of his origin, but Geras calls him out when he says he grew up with little. Implying that he had a decent if not good uprising. The fact that he's in his prolly early 20s or so and already selling snake oil to people just goes to show how he is greedy for money, but not willing to work an honest job for it
This Shang Tsung is probably the most perfect Shang Tsung ever... the attention to detail in his facial reactions, and the voice by Alan Lee is top notch. It exactly sounds like Hiroyuki Tagawa.

I fully thought Cary Togawa reprised Shang again, but I was blown away when I found out he didn't. Alan Lee really does an amazing job with Shang.

To be fair Tagawa is in his 70's, so I can see why they decided to start transitioning to a new voice.
At least Cary Togawa will be forever immortalized in MK11, so will the actors from the movie that reprised their roles as Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade.

Damn dude literally 90% of the cast are straight up good guys now. Seeing Mileena, Rain, Tanya, Reptile and Baraka being paragons of good feels weird but not at all bad. I actually enjoy rooting for these characters now in the canon. Liu Kings timeline is great.
Shame that Bi-Han got no nuance out of everyone here once again since he's Ed Boon's least favorite character opposite of Scorpion who eternally has his dick sucked by Ed Boon (not even Hsu Hao has that ignominy).
And minimum amount of casualties
Rain wasn’t exactly a paragon more so he was actually capable of learning and changing. The fact that all the endings seem to be canon is amazing. I gotta say liu kang knows how to craft a timeline cause I never thought I’d root for some of these mofos lol
It's also great because they're not shoehorned into being good guys. They all have actual motives that make some sense. My favorite ones are Baraka and Reptile. They actually have a past with actual motives and i love how they bond with one another because of their losses.
I mean it kinda makes sense also. Dude wanted a peaceful world, so he made people sort of more peaceful!

Cary Tagawa is a very high bar to clear in portraying Shang as a live action and voice actor. Kudos to Alan Lee for matching that vibe to near perfection in the game

i just love how shang tsung is very playful with other characters while has a serious tone against johnny.
He knows Johnny won’t take him seriously otherwise, or he doesn’t want to give him any wrong ideas.
His face, voice and facial expressions are very much on point, I love everything about this character. They took a movie version of his face and rizzed him up to perfection. Gives me Loki vibes with his expressions. You can see they paid a lot of attention to the details especially when it comes to Shang Tsung in this game. Perceft villain, a lot of applause to both devs and the voice actor.
This dude is fantastic. The voice actor does a great job of emulating the original without going too far. Almost every line is topped with his sinister little smiles i fucking love it lmao

Shang Tsung is pretty much the lex luthor of the MK universe.
And Liu Kang is superman
It actually speaks volumes that even though liu kang knows him and Shang are eternal rivals, he still gave him a chance in his own timeline he created, and even went out of his way to find a truly good version of him to help fight in the final battle against his mk11 timeline Shang tsung

Even then, Luthor has at least some scruples. As bad as his grudge against Supes is, he does have a true respect for him, to the point where he actually attends his funeral after his supposed death and admits that he’ll miss him too. Shang, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to kill Liu Kang, no matter who or what he must destroy to get it.

I like how among all the other characters who’ve had their personalities reworked (I guess Shao hasn’t really changed but you could say he wants to rule Outword because he thinks it’s in their best benefit), Shang Tsung really hasn’t changed much. Sure he’s had an entirely different backstory but he’s still the same conniving sorcerer he was in all of the previous MK games, just with a different appearance and weapons.

@@Culling_Gamernot exactly, in the ending we are shown the different timeline Shang Tsung and Quan Chi that joined Lord Liu Kang side. Too bad they're souls is Titan Shang Tsung and Quan Chi's now.

Alan Lee does a Fantastic Job Replicating Tagawa’s Voice Tone and Personality and makes it his own, That way Shang Tsung can Live On the Franchise for a Long Time and this Proofs that with the right person your Favorite Characters and Villains can appear in the Future.
One of the best characters so far. He's a cocky, smooth talking bastard, and he's unapologetic about it.
This voice actor really put on a masterpiece of a performance. I don’t usually pay much attention to voice actors but man this guys deserves more credit for this. I had a similar reaction to Shao’s voice in MK 11. On the topic of Nitara’s voice acting it’s unfortunately below the quality I’d hope but still a step up above Rhonda Rousey

@@silkysmoothaudios after a month I actually agree with you when I really pay attention Nitara felt very stale. Rhonda lacked the experience but she genuinely tried. Meghan just came for a paycheck and left
I imagine Shang Tsung's intro with Homelander would show how even he is disgusted with Homelander's "antics", there's no better way to exclaim Homelander's perversion than making the most evil character of MK flinch in disdain.

he is a fun character but he is as far from being complex as the the earth to the sun. He is a sterotypical fantasy sorcerer villain
He's absolutely brilliant in MK1; very well-written. May he never stop being a key character in the series.
He’s a simple well-written scammer. He loves deception for his own benefits. He does not give two shits on who he scams.

Alan Lee is really capture the soul of Shang Tsung as character with that voice. He truly sound likes Hiroyuki Tagawa.
Alan Lee did an amazing job as Shang. At times, he's definitely doing a Cary Tagawa but as the game goes on, he definitely does his own spin on it.

I'd just like to point out that I love where they seem to be taking rains character. Oh he's definitely prideful, he's definitely a bit arrogant, but he now seems to have a great deal more wisdom in showing remorse and knowing that he was lead astray. In short there is a great deal more potential for character development then we've seen with this character up to this point.

Because this is a new timeline, and for most of the characters this was their first time meeting him, so they have no knowledge of his true colours.
Its so tricky, you realized when kenshi, johnny and kung lao sneak into outworld and thought shang tsung is about to inject tarkatan virus to mileena and didnt trust him in fact he's really make an antidote for her
