  • Andrew Taylor and his team at Blue Corner Marine Research have been restoring an area of reef in the Nusa Islands, Bali. The previously degraded, dead rubble slope is now well on it's way to becoming a healthy coral reef! For the last three years the team has been stabilizing rubble, growing a coral nursery and transplanting corals... and the reef is being restored.
    This video shows before and after footage - of the reef 3 years ago before restoration began; compared to now.
    A full description of the restoration project and regular updates can be found at www.bluecornerconservation.org/coral-reef-restoration

    This video deserves more views I would encourage you to update your thumbnail to something more eye catching and shortening your title to something like 2021 Coral Reef Restoration (3 YEARS). Absolutely phenomenal work on that coral reef by the way! Amazing!

    we need this in the Los Roques archipielago, Venezuela... the extensive reefs are bleached , its so sad, the islanders really care for nature, they even have a humble conservation program for diferrent turtle species... they would die of joy if the reefs could recover

    This is the first step, active transplants. But waters will continue to get warmer, if we do not decrease our fossil fuel dependency. This extinction could happen again in just a few years time, and it would get even worse.
    If anyone cares about our environment, you will take active measures to ensure you do not pollute as much, and I thank your efforts.

    Any way to attach the coral above water and then swim them down? Might be much easier if possible.

    • @bluecornerconservation
      @bluecornerconservation  2 місяці тому +1

      @@rocket5557 sometimes we do that with schools or community groups. But it is always best for the corals to keep them in the water while transplanting rather than removing them from their environment

    How was the area before? What was the reason why the area had the rubble in the first place? Natural disaster? Human pollution? "Global warming"? What are we doing to prevent the initial cause to destroy this artificial "restoration" in a near future? Do you think all that work was the best for the environment? Why? Or was just a nice adventure and way to keep busy with another project?
