Thanks Doug - you've been such a source of info and I'm so grateful for what you've already done. I pray it continues to work for you to share your deep technical wizardry with the community... but first & foremost just support whatever serves your life & wellness the best! Look forward to seeing what comes next. Blessup! - Jason
Thank you for all the great videos Dough. Best of luck in 2025!
You are my BMD go to guy. Keep up the great work and good luck with all your endeavors.
Good luck Doug… hope good things come your way.
Thanks, Danny!
Thank Doug, your Videos have been really helpful in my daily tasks as a Virtual ProductionTechnician. Definitely your software/ video knowledge is highly beneficial in the VFX/Virtual Production industry. I have worked in that industry and its a great place for you to work on interesting projects. All the best 💪
Hi Doug! Thank you for all the things i've learned watching your vids. Great work! Hope to see more of those in the near future.
On my part, one (two actually) of the vids that hooked me up and interested me the most were the ones about LANs. I think networking is as important as all the other stuff video related. Everything goes online or in a network these days. So, more of those would be more than welcomed!
Enjoy your down time and be sure that something will come up to fill out those free hours.
All the best. Alex. Romania.
Happy new year Doug. I remember back watching your 10,000 subscription party live several years ago, and in 2025 you will hit 40,000. It’s very well deserved. I wish you great personal and professional success in 2025 and beyond.
Hi Doug, I’m following you from Mali, in Africa. I learnt so much with you. Just to thank you. Happy new year
Good luck with whatever path you choose, Doug!
Definitely relate to always needing to fill that downtime. Sorry to hear about the contract going away. You're super talented and I'm sure plenty of people would find your knowledge as an asset!
Doug you are fabulous! Even with the software contract gone bugaboo you'll come out on top!
Thanks! Fingers crossed...
Best of luck to you going into the new year! With your skills I'm sure you'll find a path that suits you 🙂 Always appreciate your content / Carl
Been watching you for a while...good luck with whatever path you take. Don't be afraid to travel with your trailer...and charge for it well, it's a good setup....and personally, I love working outside of the States...I've worked with some really amazing people in Mexico, Poland, and Israel, and by remote with people in a bunch of other places around the US and the world.
I look forward to the future of the channel!
Idk but you just read my mind, was just thinking Doug should upload a video before 2024 and its here.! 🥳🎉🎊😍❤🙌🏻
Best of luck Doug, sounds like you're about to enter a brilliant new chapter, even though its unclear to you at this moment what that may be...
Doug you're a bloody champion. Love following you and your great ideas.
Thanks mate.

Sooo looking forward to some new software from you. Congratulations 🍾🎊🎈🎉 New bitfocus companion support? wink wink
It's a must to always have something to balance the day job ... for sure.
All the best of luck , where one door closes another opens - I think more programming tutorials, some tech reviews of like cool gadgets that make life easier none of the gimmick stuff, changes in the market such as AI and how it can be used for programming or video production, new Led panels that are replacing green screens, deep dive into remote production as thats where we all headed and augmented reality.
More live stream videos please! 😊
I try to do mostly produced videos. They have much higher rewatch value than the live streams do (which almost nobody goes back to watch after the fact).
Man I feel you so much … I’m in software 2 and having a Videoproduction job to balance … last one is coming to a end most likely in summer.
We had a problem that we were at production capacity while starting to also burn out crew, so the natural solution was to raise our rates to keep things sustainable & maybe reduce the workload a little. The result of course was more bigger productions, particularly with some key clients. Go figure.
Though a side effect has been that we cab afford to be better resourced to do productions easier and pay crew more also. And for the most parts the clients are happy to pay more for what is better results for them also.
It also then allows us both time and resources to better serve clients that maybe don't have as robust budget but who we still want to work with for other reasons.
And sometimes clients do go in another direction; witch either results in them finding a vendor who is a better fit for them (which also helps grow local production capacity) and eases our calendar a little, or they come back to us later with a new appreciation of our value.
All of our biggest clients have tried other options at some point, some of whom they continue to work with for smaller stuff; and then they come to us for the bigger events where it matters most - and pays best. It's a great sustainable fit for everyone.
So yeah, my advice to anyone is generally: raise your rates!
btw: Did you ever consider letting the channel know what software you had been working on at that gig? Maybe the power of the channel would open up new avenues for it?
I have mentioned it a handful of times when asked in a live stream but have generally elected to not talk too much about my software career on a channel focused on video production. Don't want to bore the folks that aren't involved in that, and people are very quick to click away when something doesn't pique their interest.
For what it's worth, the type of work I'm most comfortable with and may be my most valuable skill is with custom Windows desktop apps and services, specifically those written in C#/.NET... both WinForms and WPF. There is still a huge need for that in corporate even though most of the world has moved to web apps. I have a lot of other tools that I've used quite a bit and am very comfortable with, in desktop, web, and server environments, and more... but that one has been a bit of a unique niche that I know especially well, having done it for more than 30 years... and one that doesn't change constantly like web development tends to do, so those years of experience are quite useful and relevant.
Next most valuable is probably as a DBA with SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle, which I've also done for almost 30 years.
I've done contract software engineering and development for just over 40 years now in nearly every industry out there, so my breadth of experience is pretty wide. I understand business processes and procedures in a lot of different disciplines. And I obviously know multimedia technologies really well too.
I have a knack for figuring out what users actually want (not just what they're asking for), and finding solutions that are sustainable, maintainable, and quick to implement. And I tend to implement solutions many times faster than other developers, since in most cases I'm nearly always doing something that I've already done many times before and have already thought through and figured out the right and ways to get it done.
Hi Doug, you are doing great with your channel, and we all appreciate your videos.
What kind of software development do you do? (What programming languages, types of programs?)
Remote production (REMI) will definitely be a thing in the next few years. The main challenges are latency, bandwidth and camera control. In terms of latency, with hardware encoders and decoders like the Makito X4, we can expect as little as 250ms glass-to-glass. As for camera control, I mean remotely controlling cameras (exposure, white balance...). This is the trickiest part in my opinion. Some people create a VPN so they can access the CCU as if it were local. But not so easy with prosumer cameras. This is an area where software development could be done.
Doug, we need online classes related to livestreaming.
Lol. I thought for sure you were going to say you were getting married.😂
I watch a channel called The Cranky Cameraman, some good insights into shoot setups. Maybe a good model for YT videos?
...and it's an area I haven't really explored that much.
One business idea. 100% Web Based Video Graphics Overlay System?
That's definitely one I've considered.
@djp_video We have been working on our own internal solution and, even though it's been challenging, it's definitely been worth it.
Most of all, I would love to see what a professional like yourself would present us with 😁... Soooo, think about it 😉 and, whatever You decide to do with your "spare time", make sure it makes You happy.
@@djp_video Most of all, whatever You decide to do with your new "spare time", make sure it makes You happy 😉
Maybe you should spend some time relaxing? Sounds unhealthy.
My ADHD makes it really difficult to relax. Not having anything to do is more stressful than working.
@@djp_video looks like I'm not alone. Same feelings here.
