That's why these old two-strokes are so fun!
they run just as good forward as they do reverse!

i can imagine how cool this would be in a boat or a car, love the idea of 2 stroke reversible engine

  • @patthesoundguy

all I can imagine is the coolness factor that motor had when the original owner pulled it out of the crate when it was new back in 1915!

Now he can have a hot bath, eh? XD
If he could fit that in a jet-ski it would be like an Aqua-Harley!
Real nice for 101 years old!

Old Fairmont railroad inspection cars had a big 2 stroke single cylinder engine. You had to reverse the engine to go in the opposite direction. Turn off the ignition and then just before it stopped reverse the timing and turn it back on. That would save you cranking it up again in the other direction.

I'm not claiming anything, but if I recall, it doesn't take a lot of RPM to spin a prop, and with 3 cylinders the prop is bigger. Runs pretty good guys, enjoyed the video guys. Two thumbs up.

I was on a Buoy Tender back in the 80s with Cooper Bessemer engines and sometime if you let go of the start button just right they would start backwards. Exhaust coming out of the intake is not a good thing in a tight engine room, LOL.

They are closed. They aren't like a lever valve, when the lever is inline with the valve, its closed. If the lever is 90 degrees to the valve then its open. Priming cups are different. FYI

Hey, knowing how much you like modded Briggs engines.. How hard would it be to convert one to diesel?
I guess you'd have to bump up the compression, beef up the bearings and con rod, but would it be possible?

    • @805ROADKING

It's still 2 stroke (grin) Now you'll laugh at this. When I got my boat in 2002 a neighbouring boater, now a friend got a Seagull. Put it on a dingy and went up and down....sure enough it stopped. Ended up rowing back in.
Few years later at Southrey Roy came with one, put it on a dingy, ended up rowing lol....used my new Tohatsu in the dingy..worked great.
