Thatt's funny while watching this I was wondering if she knew about miss you much because it's one of my favorites...I love the dancing in those as well!
You are so correct, Empress. This landmark breakout video by Janet is one of the top 10 dance performances of all time! Kudos to Paula Abdul and her choreography as well.
MJ & Janet both have this unmistacable fierce dancing look in their faces. Yes 10 across the board! Back then as a kid I almost fell off my chair seeing how she moved! She does is so smoothly! It's the Jacksons gift/touch!!! Control is my favorite Janet album still!!!!
One of my favorite Janet songs. The video is definitely iconic. This is the one song on Control that Jam & Lewis didn't write/produce. And the single/video mix was produced by Shep Pettibone (remember that name for your Madonna journey! He famously remixed "Express Yourself" and produced "Vogue" and her Erotica album).
Shep Pettibone is the producer who remixed Olivia Newton John's "The Rumor". Empress recently reacted to this and fans in the comments were recommending this remix.
Thanks for reacting to my Patron pick Empress, I knew you would love it! I remember spending literally weeks/days/hours in my room watching the video and learning the choreography. This song def makes you want to get up and dance...FOREVEROBSESSED! 🔥
Love this! Janet came back after being gone for a bit and was completely fit and ready to show off ! I was crazy about this video! She and Michael taught a lot to each other! She fought for independence and stood on her own.
Empress I agree 💯 about Michael and Janet having that same dance genes. If you listen closely they also have a similar vocal tone. Like this song, not my fav by JJ, but the video & this mix takes it over the top.
Fun Fact : Janet actually did the back flip in this joint. No stunt doubles, I learned this while listening to Barry Lather the guy who choreographed the video on a podcast. Janet had drive and definitely something to prove.
Well, in the 80s because all of us grew up on Good Times and we knew her as little Penny, yes, we were blown away! She was beautiful and poised, could sing and dance… It is still one of the best videos and one of her best songs. It’s been on my mind already but finally we are hearing from Janet Jackson!!
100%!! Amazing video. And so unique in that it was her 6th and final single from Control, and aside from the [amazing] ballad Let's Wait Awhile, all of the up-tempo dance-funk-pop songs had wonderful videos with Janet and a slew of dancers. I LOVE all of those videos, and I maybe even like some of those songs better than The Pleasure Principal (hello When I Think Of You, WHYDFML, Nasty), but the idea to have her dance ALONE in a warehouse with no entourage was so revolutionary and exciting and showed that she could hold her own without the bells and whistles. It was just HER. And she killed it!
I was in marching band when this album dropped. The biggest thing ever. At that time. The most dancingest video ever. Uninterrupted difficult choreography. This was high energy precision stuff. It looks spontaneous and expressive. Probably the best one person artist dancing through a video ever. That I'm aware of. And that includes Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. She did some of their moves in this. My favorite because it's so girly power is the bunny hops where she's got her hand on her head doing a tilt thing. It's really simple. But was so Janet Jackson.
Janet Came Alive when She came out with this Album. This is One of My Favorite Songs From the Album. In fact, I Love the Whole 'Control' Album. My Mom & I's Favorite Song is "Let's Wait Awhile."
I knew you would love this one Empress. When I watched this for the first time as a young kid I saw nothing but MJ comparisons myself and Janet also holding her own. She is her own bonafide super star. This video and this song (the remix by Shep Pettibone) is just superb stuff. One of the greatest. She shows off everything. I know what you mean 100 percent. This song is the perfect video for this song. It also has the little Ooh ah ooh from When I think Of You mixed in (again classic Shep) The 80's were so great) I loved living through them. I am glad re-living them with you. Your smile is infectious and happiness going through these great times again is awesome. Thank you for the memories, or shall I say going through them again. They were GREAT TIMES. Have a great rest of the weekend Empress. Janet, baby we can't hold her down. :)
I busted my mother's dining set trying to do that damn chair move busted the chair and my head! Still got an ass whooping from my mother as well! This video brought me allot of pain 😂
This version of this song was the remix by Shep Pettibone. This was the only song of this album not produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in the album (while the others songs of the album was by Jam and Lewis). But the album version was little different then the remixed single version used in radios and video. This was the sixth (and final) single of the album, but only achieved a moderate success, this was the only single of the ''Control'' album then it's didn't reaching the top 10 in US, stayed at n.14. But the video was successful back in the days in MTV when it's came out.
Yes the dancing is awesome. Try to tune in on these lyrics too! She is telling dude off! I admit I didn't get to the lyrics for years before I understood the Pleasure Principle! I love this vid and song! It's my JAM!
Jan made classic music you can still rock today. Jan is the female Michael in the family. I love the Jacksons. I met Jan a few times and she is so sweet and cool. 💃🏽💜🎙
Yessir. Janet's best pure dancing video. Just her and the environment. When I first heard the SONG I thought it was the best on the album. When I saw the video that solidified it. Her best video IMO though is her "Rhythm Nation" video which is just next level. Dancing genes? Maybe. But that's selling her short. More like dancing lessons and a mad ton of very hard work over many years.
Until the video to "Alright", this was my favorite JJ video. It was great to see her dance by herself, unlike the "What Have You Done fie Me Lately", "Nasty" and "When I Think of You". Imagine seeing this in real-time!! I'm so glad I was blessed to have witnessed this as it happened. Those times were simply magical!! This is MY girl!!! I had been a fan of Janet's since "The Jacksons" (TV series).
The was the 5th and final track from her groundbreaking “Control” album! She was undeniably on fire both vocally and visually! This is my favorite track and music video from the album! It was that good! A perfect pop song and dance floor jam! I was surprised that this single was released so late in the album’s run! It seemed that she and the powers that be, truly saved the best for last! Janet’s vocals are intensely self assured here! I believe that this music video is choreographed, yet it is filmed and executed in a way, where it appears to be free form and natural: just another day at the warehouse, working out! Ms Jackson is in her finest form! Beautiful, fit, liberated! It was shocking that she missed the Top 10 with this one, stalling at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100! This should have topped the charts! I loved it then and do now! This song and music video is spot on in every way, shape and form! It never gets old! What an incredible time for her in pop music! It successfully inspired people to dance and shaped future artists and sounds! It laid the groundwork for the foundation for “Rhythm Nation 1814” her masterwork that was yet to come! Good times!💕
