Jerett Gieseler No, actually I hate it, sorry! Jessye is a great artist, but I can’t stand this “Leonie Rysanek School of Screaming.” I think it’s more dignified to let the music/action make the point without the screams.
I had the great good fortune to get interested in Wagner to see this cast in both 1989 and 1990, and also saw Morris as Wotan I think in San Francisco. Local boy makes god.
I just bought this production on amazon yesterday. I’m looking forward to seeing all of it and having a traditional staging as a companion piece to my more modern Bayreuth Ring cycle on Blu-Ray that I bought last week.
I've never seen a greater Wotan than James Morris. Truly epic.
Neither have I. Hildegard Behrens was an amazing Brünnhilde
1:34 don’t you just love madame Norman‘s screaming? It gives me chills
Don't you just love Jessye's melodramatic scream when Siegmund is impaled...

@@wotan10950 the scream is in the libretto along with Siegmunds ;)

Same. We are very lucky.
Thrilling, and thank you for keeping part of the curtain calls.
curious, I don't think they should happen till the end of the opera. they're out of character with what happens at the end of this act.

Sounds like you and Wagner would have got on!
