Dear Sir, you only need 3 straps on each coil. One strap in the side to side center and then two diagonal straps overlapping. What material are your coils made of. They look like Aluminum or Tin??
If each coil is 20,000lbs you would need atleast 4. (Assuming your straps are rated for 5400 lbs) Western express is all about over-securing so he used 5.
I have hauled hundreds of those aluminum coils from one side of the country to the other and never placed more than 3 straps per coll I used cardboard edge protectors that were provided by the shipper in short no need in all that overkill unless you drive reckless their no need for that many straps
@@newschooltruckin3943 I believe he's talking about the way you wrapped the hook end of the straps. When I was a rookie driver I got my trailer against one of those big concrete barriers at a CAT scale and cut about 3 straps.
As far as I know all the lettering on your strap should be facing outwards you never seem to do that as per DOT regulations also when you hook your hook for your straps you're always wrapping it around the rub rail which means the strap could be cut
His straps are upside down because of how he initially hooks the hook over the rub rail. There should never be strapping on the outside of the rubrail. The strapping job other than that looks good.
I am dedicated for them out of Ravenswood wv they require 2 chains an 1 strap per coil period that why western express does load loads shipping out lol

That is the most challenging looking securement project I have ever seen. And now I know how to do it. Much obliged.

#EXCELLENT
Great presentation and details
Very good explanation 👍👌thank you
Defeats the purpose of a rub rail. Something side swipes that trailer and those coils become wrecking balls.
Could you elaborate please

What if your winches are all on one side of the trailer?
I had 7 coils, that were only about two feet tall. You wouldn't put c-straps on those, would you?
This fucking guy would for sure.
Thanks Joe, you're the best man, I hope being back on the road feels good man. Best of luck and safe driving!
Good video
