      I got an autographed photo and a nice autographed boxing card from your dad back in the 1990's I had them proudly displayed in my man cave. I had to give that room up. Everything is packed away now but someday I will have my man cave back again. I will try to send you some pics of them. He always such a gentleman and I know you were proud of him.

      And the referee, Jersey Joe Walcott (former world champ who lost itlte to Marciano), would go on the make a mess of the second Ali-Liston fight, allowing Nat Fleischer at ringside have a say about whether Sonny had been counted out or not.

    That post-fight interview was gold. McNeeley congratulated Floyd, who also complimented his rival. I really like Patterson's personality in general, it's genuine sportmanship. Cus D'Amato didn't make him any favour protecting him imho.

      @CarlosPerezESP 2 роки тому +5

      @@dababy8017 My take is, Cus D'Amato protected him and convinced him to avoid the best fighters, but that strategy didn't pay off in the long run. He make Floyd fight good opponents but not the best ones. Because of this, people didn't respected him enough, and he didn't progressed that much as a fighter. Had he fight the best right at the beginning, he might had lost a few times, but that experience would've served him later on. Instead, he was protected by Cus, and Floyd probably didn't know the extend of his capabilities. You know the rest: when he started fighting the top guys, he suffered both in and out of the ring. Of course, I'm just a fan and this is just my opinion... Both Cus and Floyd are all time greats

      You would say that Rocky Marciano and Jack Dempsey were protected or, protected themselves in a cowardly way. Whenever Tyson or Patterson win fights, the credit goes to the white man i.e. Cus. This is very wrong, unethical, it is in fact a crime.

      @@carloshenriquethomaz2578 I don't have any problem saying that champions play their cards, they don't want to lose the title easily (see Tyson Fury now, and I hate that). Some of them is because they want to (Marciano, Dempsey, the others pre-Johnson), some of them were protected, like Floyd. I think Floyd wanted (and shouldve) fought Liston earlier. That was Cus mistake. Others, like Mayweather recently, handpicked his rivals to have better chances. That's all I'm saying man

    McNeeley does it all--head butting, low blows, rabbit punches--but when you are outgunned you do what you can. It's amazing that he is under 200 pounds but still looks bigger than Floyd, who looks cool as a cucumber. Even during the second knockdown, Floyd is looking for, maybe even talking to someoone at ringside (Cus?) and Tom almost nails him, rushing in as he is distracted. But he escapes with a last-second, almost cartoonish, discovery that there's a fight going on.

He also allowed should have given a mandatory 8 after the 2nd knockdown, so Patterson was at a neutral corner looking down when Walcott allowed McNeeley to get up and rush Patterson, take a wild swing that just missed floyd, who saw what was going on at the last moment and ducked the punch. MacNeely with lot of heart in boxing .
    Patterson being brave and , also, at the top level during his time Era , when he was world champion, therefore in my honest opinion , Patterson was GOOD BUT NOT ONE OF THE GREATEST EVER. WHY ? SONNY LISTON AND ALI , EASILY , TOOK HIM DOWN (KO) .
    GREATEST ONES EVER IN HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING BY RHE EXPERTS AND ALSO , MY OPINION :
    LOUIS (With great guts and resistance, by having the longest carrer as world champion , 30s and 40s Decade) ;
    MARCIANO (The only heavyweight, still Unbeatable with his incredible stamina and never giving up,until he left . 50 s Decade) ;
    LISTON (by his one of most powerful punch ever, 40s /50s Decade) ;
    ALI (three times world champion during the best Era of heavyweight boxing known as the Golden Age/Era, 60s and 70s Decade by winning and loosing and then winning again against great opponents ever such as Foreman , Joe Frazier , etc . Ali was an unique Stylist with Power , Agility and Footwork like no other Heavyweight Boxers had and still they haven't that during today . His reference was Sugar Ray Robinson, the great Pound per Pound) ;
    FOREMAN(still the oldest world champion of all times . He fought great during the 70s as world champion , then he left as a priest and later on , back again in 90s to take the belt again as the oldest world champion . The guy had One of most powerful punch Ever like an Hammer) ;
    MIKE TYSON (still the youngest world champion ever . With incredible speed , power and combinations by having an impregnable defense) ;
    HOLLYFIELD (also three times world champion like Ali was . He was clever in the Ring , with great shape by studying his opponents he won such as Mike Tyson, Bowe, etc) ;
    LENNOX LEWIS (he defeated once by judgment points Hollyfield, because he was younger with an incredible shape and guts and also clever in the Ring by his powerful Jabs . He also defeated great Warriors like Mike Tyson , Tua and Vitality Kiltchko.
    He was still with the world champion belt when he left giving his belts disposal for the next Champs who came after) .
    The Great and recent Heavyweight ones during this Millenium ,like Tyson Fury , Usyk and so on (Wilder, Joshua...) are Pros, great but not as the Greatest in the top heavyweight boxing list . Why ?
    Because, they figth more for money than for Boxing. By less combats with more Money .
    Before (and about the Greatest I mentioned before) fought MORE , FOR LESS MONEY AND , ALSO , WITH BETTER SKILLS, POWER AND STAMINA .

      I think Floyd patterson was a great boxer and very brave to face Sonny Liston despite the fact that he was 21 pounds lighter than Liston. Floyd Patterson was too small for a heavyweight to compete with Ali, but he did very well in their 2 fights even out of his prime and was suffering from a back injury, he still showed immense combinations and speed. He may not have been one of the greatest heavyweights but he is the most humbled and respected heavyweight ever.
