Simply wonderful. A classic story and this one world famous. This is simply the best narration of this story I have ever heard. Some people have a gift for it and Mr A. J. Singh has the voice to bring this alive. I know other comments are going to say the same thing. I can't think of anyone to match him, and there are some great voice actors out there. Thank you so much.
Unfortunately the Hollywood film did little to portray the truth about this incident, it is also true that many Americans will believe the Hollywood fiction rather that the writings of the man that was actually there and wrote the book. Hopefully this excellent video will go some way to correcting the fiction of Hollywood. Chris B.
How absolutely terrifying it must be for those people to face two apex predators at a time before modern conveniences and weapons. I think many people understimate the role played by the dark or lack of illumination in the worker camps. A hungry man-eating big cat on a dark night is the most terrifying beast to deal with.
i have heard Audio of Man Eaters of Tsavo many times and watched "Ghost and Darkness" even more and its just crazy it happened.... Intrestingly i want to hear your narration❤❤....
@mrmocaccino-pg5ci Movie is just 1% of what actually happened with J.H.Patterson in the horrifying tsavo wilderness....the goods wagon, the human bait box, train station terror, killing the first lion OMG !! imagine the fear & terror of those poor indian coolies who were carried off by lions day after day....truly terrifying....J.H.Patterson & Jim Corbett tales are just❤️❤️
Your my favorite narrator. I try to share your videos to get more subscribers. Your so much a better narrator than the bots and others out there. Thank you for your amazing narrations
I find this story to be particularly frightening. Yet, I know I am in for a rare event having been afforded the opportunity to listen to you narrate it. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for doing this story, I never thought you’d cover it but here you did! I’ve seen these lions displayed in The Museum of Natural History in Chicago. When walking up to the exhibit, I’ve personally felt a very disturbed and dark vibe coming from them, and it’s definitely a unique experience being close to them. But it’s definitely worth visiting. I love the videos, keep it up! 👍
There’s also another exhibit of a man eating lion in the same museum, it’s called the Mfuwe Man-eater, and it’s equally as terrifying as the Tsavo Man-eaters.
I totally agree and a great point! I was at the Field Museum through pure happenstance earlier this year. Definitely a sobering experience being close to them. Also, I noticed the taxidermied specimens looked way too small in person. Obviously these were two huge male lions, but I found out later that Patterson had owned these skins as rugs for almost 25 years before he sold them to the museum so they did shrink by quite a lot in that time.
It’s crazy right? The lions are still decently large, yet in life they were a lot bigger and muscular. It’s a shame they weren’t preserved better, although it must’ve been really cool to have 2 maneaters as carpets inside of your own home.
Very interesting. Familiar book and story but still finished listening to it in one sitting. I could have honestly listened to you reading this whole book if you’d done it all at once.
Best listened at 0.9X. Amazing voice you have Mr Singh. Thank you so much for the wonderful stories. Still going through it. It is the best rendered reading of this book.
Its a thousand wonders JH could walk with the pair of balls he was packing! I've read this many times and still i am in awe of the metal the men of that generation were made! May God bless and keep them. I wish we had them in this era!
At last a skilled reading of this amazing story . An absolute delight. I have avoided all other versions on UA-cam as they are so awful. Congratulations on a brilliant job.
I just can't imagine what it must have been like back before electricity or flashlights to be surrounded by wilderness and dangerous lions in the night with only tents and thorn fences to sleep within.
I think Patterson is right when he says that the death toll was likely much higher. These lions didnt just turn man killers as soon as the poor railroad workers showed up. They probably were killing humans all along the river for a while before the construction crews arrived.
Patterson was only referring to the fact that the workmen's camps were distributed and a large number of workers were employed, so an accurate count of workers killed by these lions was not easy to keep a very accurate record of.
This story got my interest in to wild life and maneaters. This is a really frightening story. This will be the third time and version that I am listening to. But that will have to wait another 20 hours. uch awaited story.
What the author fails to mention is that those lions were old and had tooth decay, which was probably the biggest contributing factor in them behaving this way. Human beings are an easy meal for.an obligate carnivore.
I cannot comment on the condition of those two particular man-eaters. However, many man-eaters have been found to be in perfect health. In fact, an entire pride of lions in Africa was directly responsible for some 1500 to 2000 victims!
Yes, indeed they were maneless. I couldnt show it in the artwork because I guess Its hard for generative AI to show maneless male lions. I believe the movie you're referring to is called "The ghost and the darkness".
The first time i heard about Tsavo Lions was from the movie The Ghost and the Darkness, then i read the book, but even today, this story when i hear it gives me goosebumps.
Such a wild and thrilling tale, albeit sad! Lions and tigers are in their elements at night. Imagine listening to those ominous roars and not being able to see them coming closer. Then they go silent into stealth mode before grabbing a human like a mouse. Terrifying stuff!
I hear you. I'll make a note of this. Narration pace is tricky. If I go slow, it irks some. Its not always easy to strike the right balance as everyone has their own preferences.
What bothers me the most i think, is the lack of care or concern over people's lives. As if dying is so common place it hard bears mention. The callous attitude towards the end of someone's life, dreams, and existence is heartbreaking
Hard to disagree with that in general. Thats par for the course for this time period. I do think though that the author shows a fair bit of empathy here compared to others I've seen.
The Chinese built a scr railway from Mombasa to Nairobi a couple years ago. Although it’s not reported internationally, I was told by locals in Mtito Andei that wild animals killed workers when they were setting the track through the Tsavo East.

I’m retired American Engineer living in Kenya and riding motorcycle throughout Africa. Three weeks ago, December 2, I took a car from Nairobi to Mombasa. Around 2 am we were driving through a village about 3 miles west of Mtito Andea (The midway point and western end of Tsavo). There was a spotted hyena standing in the middle of the road. It was as big as a bear. These things will go into homes and pull people out and begin eating them alive and deviate your livestock, pets, workplace and homes. There’s a difference between encroachment and survival. I can’t feel for these animals knowing what they can do.

I loved that movie though its not as well done as I'd have liked. Some of the lion scenes looked ridiculous.

Terrifying prospect for sure!
Omg YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original most notorious man eaters. The champawat tigress must have been a young cub far away in India during this time
Interesting though! They both had almost parallel timelines in different parts of the world. Add the Panar leopard in the mix too.
It's likely that they started their killing spree well before Patterson and his men arrived on the scene.
