Hi, Great to see this. I have the same demagnetizer. You run it for a second or two and job done. Make sure that you don`t have your amp and speakers turned on else you may get a high pitch noise. You still have to clean the tape heads. After so long the tape heads get magnetized and the sound can appear a little on the dull side, although I haven`t really noticed to any great degree. The TDK SAX tape is the high end chrome position/Type II tape and are highly collectable now. The TDK MA and MA-X tapes were even better but the SA-X was superb and probably the best type II tape around.

This demagnetizer is meant to reduce a lot of the residual (unwanted) magnetism which sticks to the tape heads/guides/capstans etc... Once the unwanted magnetism is reduced/removed (deGaussed), the bias frequency can have a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and can help align the ferrite/chromium/magnetite tape particles better, thus allowing a truer fidelity to the input signal.
When magnetism builds up on the tape heads/guides/capstans, it causes the tape particles to randomly scatter, rather than being precisely aligned by the signal in the tape head gap. This causes a gravely, gritty sound instead of a clean, clear sound.

This unit will work on older cassette decks but not on many of the newer decks with full logic control. TDK came out with a newer model the HD-30 that mimics a cassette with rotating supply and take up reels.
