really good job!! I can't wait till you get it done. I subscribe and wait for that screen capture
Euda! Finally a comprehensive explanation of how these things work and how one can solve it more simply!
I just got an ambilight kit from China with the ambibox and a led strip that had 60led/m. The quality / brightness is really excellent. Also, I got better result than in your video somehow. the feature that copies the screen color is super accurate and fast. You can run a test video on UA-cam made to test this feature.
The app is relatively simple imo.
And as you said, I’m dying for à this feature to be available on UA-cam/Disney + or other video plateforme.
Would love to see where you are with this tech.
I have recently bought a similar kit that comprises of a ws2812b LED strip, and an arduino uno in a little box. I use the same android ambilight application. I am surprised that your setup looks like that as mine is as close to perfect as can be, unless of course the application has been updated since you made this video. I found that the app only needed a few minor tweaks once set up. I turned green up and red and blue down a touch. Now it can create decent browns where as previously any brown colour was a pinky red. Personally I think this solution is amazing and works brilliantly.
hi, does it work with netflix and prime?
Instead of counting the LEDs (which you stated as a negative item) you could also have the customer measuring the height/width of his/hers TV and submit these values in your Android App.
In the "background" of your app these values are devided by the amount of LEDs/m to come to the amount of LEDs.
Thanks for the great explanation! I've learned everything about the ambilight..
An update on this would be amazing
This is AMAZING! Thank you for trying to tackle this problem! - Can you get this to work on Firefox OS?
That’s a porting of the app of the rasberrypie *who run on android... so far porting a linux app to a browser who use other programmation... You must ask the community of firefox projects... sure they can solve your needs ;)
So, where's your final product for the Ambient light? I checked out the website you have linked above but I'm not seeing anything but TV's for sale. I'm looking for an easy ambient light solution. So you have one or should I just continue with my original plan of building one using a Pi ?
Just set it up today, some chinisse one. Running on a Shield TV, and primarly to watch satellite tv, have to try to configure it a bit more and try some games and emulators. Nice video!
I have a shield too and lights let me know how to configure if you figure it out
The only way I could see your design working is if you can get software like hyperion or prismatic in app form for tvs then run it off USB. Or going a step further using colour detecting sensors placed around TV that then controls the rgb lighting behind the tv.
would love to see this fully working! For hdmi just add an hdmi grabber and maybe sell in a kit with a splitter for multiple devices
thats the plan. a hybrid solution would be great. Netflix restrictions are another topic...

just got a pi hooked up on my tv with windows and prismatik. Works like a charm and no app restriction. and works on every tv ^^
i would love to see this more developed. i would love to be a tester as well if that is something you are in need of. looks like the issue might be due to a single light strip being used instead of separate light strip for each sector TOP, LEFT, BOTTOM, RIGHT. maybe add an adjustment option to only work with each sector and set the # of lights being used for the sector or maybe a setting where you set it to the screen size so it only does the border of that screen size and not the entire screen being captured. just some food for thought. LOVE this project for years and gald to see someone still trying to develop it further. Let me know if i can be a tester for you and give you feedback. THANKS!!
Interesting, would love to see your product. I’d say support for LG web Os, nvidia shield, Netflix, Prime and Plex would be amazing!
Already works with Nvidia shield
Nice job. I mostly want this for use with the ps5 so it needs to support hdmi 2.0 at the bare minimum
Awesome product idea 👍🏾 I would buy it. Maybe having 2 hdmi ports if possible. Also, have you tested your LEDs w/an Xbox One? I only use 2 hdmi ports on my tv because I run my cable tv through my Xbox & watch all my apps through those 2. And the my PS4 is plugged in the other port
Hi, this is the first video I see from your channel and I'd be very interested in this product. is there any update about this? I'll subscribe to see how the development of this is going.
Solid work there bud, lets talk soon as our products line up perectly
Google Home integration and a Phone app would be great because the Android TV haves Google assistant built in, and for the TV's with a mic on the remote you could just tap the mic and say to turn the TV strip ( or whatever you named it on the Google home app) and it would do it! No need to open the app! What you think?
Good idea
Please do that
Perfect!
i really hope this is in development. one thing i don’t like about philips hue sync is that it doesn’t support technologies like hdmi 2.1, Dolby vision, HDR10 etc. that’s why this solution would be perfect. i’m also not comfortable with a camera in my living room
Curious to see the progress on this project...
Android ambient light application also work with Arduino witch can drive almost any led strip as well, then what is the advantage of your device?
Are you still working on the Ambilight Kit and if so when will it come on the market?
Great video nice and honest, sorry won't be buying until all the bugs are sorted out but deffo will be buying when they are👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌
Dead project. Uploader has left this on his channel for click bait. I've read through all the comments and he hasn't replied in 10 months. Meh
Great initiative! Love your ideas! Keep IT up!
Looking forward to a finalized product. I have a few questions about usage:
1. Will it work with a ShieldTV?
2. Will it work with Kodi (There have even been Kodi plugins that had similar functionality to the app you showcased, but I think they are all dead now)
3. What happens if you run Kodi with the netflix or prime plugin, which uses your credentials to watch content? I wonder if it would translate the light when watching those services through the Kodi platform.
I'm not against counting LED's, I think it's a very minor inconvenience. Additionally, you could add numbers near the LED's as someone mentioned below, which would simplify it for those who are struggling with that.
Just as an update - I believe that this WILL work with the Prime video plugin for Kodi - I say this because I just tried using anydesk to remote into my Shield TV and was able to start a prime video from the plugin, and it played (it was choppy but I was transmitting video through wifi to my laptop, I think a direct connection through USB would not be as big of a deal) - I was able to see the video on anydesk.
Sadly, it looks like the netflix plugin for Kodi still blocks the screen sharing through anydesk, so it wouldn't likely work there.
Works with shield, works with Kodi. Does not work with Kodi DRM content plugins
Great way to have ambilight without the need to buy a Philips TV! I noticed the lamp on your shelf, the one with the pixelated fire - I totally love it! could and would you tell me where I can get one of those? That would be awesome, thanks in advance!
This is where you bought them, but they seemed to have sold out of their inventory. ledseq.com/product/game-frame/
Hey great video. I'm looking to buy at least one of these ambilight kits. If I get on working on my lg oled, witch I have a 4k firestick an the new Google Chromecast with Google tv. So if your kit works with any of these please let me know asap. As I would be buying a few of them. Or if not I suppose I'll have to go with the kit with the camera option. Thanks in advance. An please let me know if you're selling it and will work with my TV or my other streaming devices. As I'm ready to buy now. Would love ambilight as it does look amazing. And keep up the great work. Thanks 👍
Hi there. HELP?!!
I bought a Panasonic 4K HD Smart TV…and the Aurora Ambient lights. (Thinking this was going to be straightforward and cheaper than getting the Phillips TV).
I don’t have a computer to connect. I only have an iPad, therefore, I would need to download the App on the TV and do it as you have suggested. Only thing is, the App doesn’t come up and when I click on Marketplace App to try and find it, nothing is there.
There are two other Apps that I need that aren’t there either…Disney + and Apple TV, so I’m going to have to get the Amazon Fire Stick anyway.
Will I be able to get the App that I need for the lights via the Fire Stick also? Or is there another way to go about this?
I know, I should have just bought the Phillips TV but hindsight is a wonderful thing!
Thanks in advance. XX
Brilliant video when are they going on sale..its to use on a nvidia shield 2017...😊
Just print numbers on the led strip so when you cut it to size you have correct number without counting.
can you explain more? Only 13 lamps work in my led
I like how you found a problem and you're just solving it yourself :)
I don't think you can capture the colors of say Netflix from just software due to drm limitations. You can't even take screenshots in the app (I believe).
I'm not sure you can even cast your screen while playing Netflix...
What would be ideal (I think) is if you were able to output everything on Android TV to two displays where the second one (connected to the LED strip) mirrors the first (your TV screen). Android does have the ability to have multiple screens (like turning phones into desktop mode etc) but I'm not sure how that works and if it works without modifying the firmware (or rooting).
Although, most Android TVs do have an easy "enable adb over WiFi" toggle in their developer options (at least my Nvidia shield does, you should check your TV). Adb might help to get some extra rights that would normally require rooting.
If there's no option to turn on adb over WiFi, it can also be enabled via USB using an app like Bugjaeger (if your TV has a micro USB or USB c port).
Anyways, just putting out my thoughts, hope it helps!
Actually, you should check the "Simulate Secondary Display" option in the Android developer options. That display mirrors the first, which is what you'd want! There's also an option for secure displays (although Netflix still shows green when played through that for me).
But I don't know if starting up such a virtual display requires system permissions or not, so yeah, worth exploring!
@@JolanRensen exactly. the problem right now is that the software is really recording the screen that triggers drm. in fact not a whole screen recording is not needed. lets see where we end up. But even a hybrid usb hdmi solution thats cheap would be a good deal for most :) problem is the processing power of the smart tvs aswell :(
TechMagnet I’m doing research on this as I am interested in upgrading my home theater. I have a samsung tv, so my options are limited to HDMI as the store doesn’t support android apps. Using the ARC port and ISB for power and a control box with a WiFi connection to use a smart phone to setup the light option. This way you get the video feed from HDMI ARC port and the ability to fine tune the lights through the app on a phone while looking at a picture. Also, this will help prevent any deciding issues from Netflix and other apps. Since ARC is a bidirectional port the apps on the TV will still decode through it.
Hey, Techmagnet, Is there any way to integrate a streaming device like a Roku into your box and find a way to sync the SmartTV commands to the Roku? If there was a way to tell the Roku that your SmartTV just went to Netflix and started watching Stranger Things, the output from the Roku HDMI could be tapped to drive the ambient lights. I think most people wouldn't mind adding a $19 Roku to their setup as long as they could still control the apps from their TV instead of via the Roku. I'd pay an extra $19 to my ambilight setup to be able to sync to my SmartTV apps as long as I still ran everything through the TV itself.
Das Video ist ein Jahr alt. Wie sieht es denn mittlerweile aus mit der Software? Funktioniert es mittlerweile wie es soll?
Can't get the this to work with Nvidia shield pro I have the app ect but when I turn the app on it crashes or freezers however when it does freeze as soon as I remove the USB from the back of the Nvidia shield the app works again it always crashes when you put the device into the Nvidia shield pro any advice please

Love to see that some one is working on Ambi lights for TV in Budget Phillips is Hell expensive
Add 2 HDMI must
And make a mini pc thing type like RPi or just ambi box but in budget

Hi there, thank you for your video.
I wonder is there any way to work with Android TV and HDMI?
Did this ever go anywhere ? I'm
currently looking for a solution for an older plasma fed by dish through an AVR via HDMI and a ROKU TV using ARC and an AVR
What's the price for this product?
I have this and i love it...would like to have this working with my ps4 too...and yeah..still limitation with netflix and prime....any updates on this soon? Any good news?
If I have a big screen 4K Philips tv(bought it last year), would it work with a regular ambilight?
Change the rgb byte order in the settings to get the correct colours. Some strips are GRB for example. No Netflix and prime is a bummer, this must be due to the drm. I wonder if rooting can solve this.
I did the same project as you, it's perfect, the only problem I have is that the image is laggy, did it happen to someone?
Been a long time, hope he still working on this? Any links to follow progress? Thanks
Daaaammnnn thats amazing!!!
did u solved youtube and netflix already ?i would like to test your app
would be interesting to get more details on the hardware used.
Kann ich dir bei Gelegenheit mal zeigen. Wollt ja sowieso mal was bei dir filmen 😂 evtl. Februar grad so stressig 😒

Trying to get mine to work eith my Nvidia shield as seen others with it working but I just can't get mine running not even the colour effect
Купил год назад led ленту. В описании ваш апп. Купил апп, захват картинки не работает((((. Когда нибудь планируете доделывать апп?
I see this is from 6 months ago any revisions on the app for HDMI?
I use a 4k 1 to 2 HDMI splitter, run one directly to my TV and the other to an HDMI to USB capture card, that gets plugged into the Nvidia Shield. I then use the USB Cam APK and set my proper settings to that screen capture. Pretty easy setup, from the Shield you can run USB to an Arduino/clone as your LED driver (with attached PSU).
Why I can’t find the Ambilight app on Tv ?
I using the Samsung 75” and android. ?
Ihr könntet ein software entwickeln die nur die pixel am rand „aufnehmen“ und die farbe nimmt es dann an
Tech Magnet, how can I get in touch with you! I want to ask something about the instalation of led strip on TV. Thanks.

Great video! I just bought all the parts for the pi solution, but I'm about to get my gf's dad's old smart TV, so this would be much better! What do you use for the controller and how do I make my own? I already have the light strip. How/where can I follow this project?
What parts should I buy
@@Rewelsworld that's what I'm asking
@@oadjef did you continue your project? if yes can you tell me what the controller you are using?
This should be done within the TV's firmware. If the signal is not leaving the telly you are just can't do it. I have an android box so it would be easy for me, cause all the signal came outside (aside the coax). I had a silly idea to mount a mini projector in the back and mirror the signal :D but couldn't figure it out how, and I rejected it. Maybe miracast or something?
Well yea some TVs put out the signal on analoge but that’s also crap. We now think about using our own app for it with better recording and algorithm but then still Netflix and prime would be an issue. Same for normal tv if u close android. IPTV however is working fine. A hybrid box with usb and app and hdmi would be a solution to cover a lot but still has limitations... let’s see if there is a way
I like the projector idea 😂😂😂
For me i bought a complete kit on Aliexpress, but the ambi-light doesn’t work on UA-cam videos, do you have a solution or do you know why it doesn’t work ? Nice vidéo !
Is philips hue the only thing can record what’s ever from the hdmi right?
Good TV how do you like it ?
Bought one. Does not work with Netflix, Disney, HBO max or standard cable input.. Does operate great with app sites like you tube or Pluto tv...is there a solution that I don't know of...using USB inputs.
Did somebody manage to find the gaged wich he used for HDMI inputband usb output ?
Is the screen capture working on all hdmi inputs like game consoles?
More info about the hdmi?
and how you download ambient light app without app to downloaded on you tv(samsung smart tv)
Make this work on LG web OS, I love your solution.

Hi , how is the ambiance light for now ?
Would love to see your product on my 85"tv
Hi would love this for my Polaroid smart tv were can I get this thank
Since it is impossible to beat Netflix and other stream services screen capture avoiding systems, I think you should make the product work with HDMI 2.1. Even the smartest TV's OS and Apps get outdated in 2-3 years so everybody needs either Apple TV or MiBox etc. Smart Tv solution is not worth your effort and it is very hard to maintain the App for all Tv systems. I would rather buy a MiBox for 50-60$ and not worry about anything else. But you have to do this hardware keeping hdmi 2.1 in mind. Because I don't want to have 60Hz instead of 120Hz when connecting my Sony PS5
Hi :)
Wie ist denn der aktuelle Status ? :)
Sieht sehr interessant aus

Please Make sure that it works with a non android based TV like my Samsung Smart TV that is not an android based operating system.
Please let me know when you have your box ready and I'll be the first one to buy one. I just bought the Ambilight LED Strip Kit to find out that #1 only works with Android TVs and #2 perfect for PC setup that has its on program that you can download from a website. I wanted it for my TV.
I tried 3 different products. None of them works. The show it working on product pics. Then when I hooked it up to my TV, it just shows light.
