  • When it was first being made into a walking bridge. No railing it was very dangerous to walk on.The bridge was first engineered by Waddell & Harrington Engineers, and the lift span uses their patented lift bridge design. The bridge was built for the Salem, Falls City and Western Railway (SFC&W), which was incorporated in 1901 as a logging railroad by Louis Gerlinger and Charles K. Spaulding. After the initial construction of a line between Dallas and Falls City in 1903, the line reached the formerly separate city of West Salem in 1909; passenger service across the Willamette to Salem was provided by ferry. Also at the end the Willamette Queen an authentic sternwheeler, If you like my videos, rate, comment and subscribe to my channel

Thanks, for bikes and walking they had to take the tracks out. Thats not a ferry it's the Willamette Queen an authentic sternwheeler from it's port in Salem, OR. She offers a wide variety of river cruises including sightseeing, lunch, dinner and brunch cruises

I can't wait for the bridge to be done! I'm glad it's being used for something cool instead of just sitting there. The city only paid $1 for the bridge. Pretty cool. Emergency vehicles will also be able to use the bridge to get around traffic on the Marion St. and Center St. Bridges.

Allowing emergency vehicles access to this, is a TERRIBLE idea! (just playing Devil's Advocate). Sounds like it's going to be used as a walking/bike path. If so, the city should install concrete/metal posts to deny access by any motorized vehicles. If you allow emergency vehicles, how do you propose stopping everyone else (from thrill seekers, to the occasional drunk). Without heavy duty guard rails, someone is going to be spending more then $1 to fish cars outta the river.
    Just my $.02 worth

AWESOME! Thank you so much! Glad I could give you a usable idea. 6/5*
    2 things:
    1. A pity they took out the tracks; the photos I saw were when the tracks were still intact but after plans were proposed to turn it into an industrial bridge.
    2. Interesting ferry zoom shot... is it abandoned?
