- This is an urgent appeal from Sonam Wangchuk in Ladakh (in the Indian Himalayas) to the people of India and the world to help protect the environmentally sensitive region of Ladakh. He appeals to the Prime Minister of India to intervene and safeguard this fragile ecosystem under the sixth schedule of the Indian constitution.

Ladakh should be addressed as immediate effect. It's urgent. We all Indians are with Ladakh.
Ladakh’s inclusion in the Sixth Schedule would be difficult. The Constitution is very clear, the Sixth Schedule is for the Northeast.
For tribal areas in the rest of the country, there is the Fifth Schedule.
Notably, no region outside the Northeast has been included in the Sixth Schedule.
In fact, even in Manipur, which has predominantly tribal populations in some places, the autonomous councils are not included in the Sixth Schedule.
Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, which are totally tribal, are also not in the Sixth Schedule.
However, it remains the prerogative of the government, it can, if it so decides, bring a Bill to amend the Constitution for this purpose.
I am from Haryana and I fully sported to Leh Ladakh and Kargi I have worked in Tangse and Drass sector for 5years For the security of our country. The people here are very honest and perceptive and tolerant. Even today when I watch any video of Ladakh, I remember my days as if I was there only yesterday. I respect the people of Ladakh a lot and am always with them.

I had been to ladakh in May22.Very simple and patriotic people. Very harsh winter is there. I must appreciate the hospitality of the people. Road condition is very good for defence reason. Cant forget the service received from district hospital at leh. Your voice must be given necessary cognigence. 🙏🙏

As someone who was born in Jharkhand (then a part of Bihar), I am ashamed that my fellow Jharkhandi - Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda - failed in his responsibility to see the matter through to the highest levels of government. I have visited Ladakh only once in 2001 on a mountaineering expedition and was just blown away by the sheer beauty and scale of the land. Sonam Wangchuk rightly predicts that if Ladakh is opened up to rampant industrialization it will have dire consequences not only on the local fragile environment but to the rest of the billions of people on the sub continent whose lives are indirectly dependent on the glaciers staying intact. Global warming, climate change and climate refugees are a global issue and affects all of us and our descendents. All the indigenous people all over the world have always lived in harmony with their environment on the principle of "Don't Take from the world more than you need". Unfortunately, big business and industry think only in terms of profits and shareholders net worth. Therefore it is more than very important that Ladakh be included in the Sixth Schedule so that the tribal people of Ladakh can manage their own affairs and preserve the stunningly beautiful and fragile world that they inhabit.
Sir you should be proud that any one from your state is in the central ministry. To give the representation. No one is 100 percent correct. It's very easy to point. But taking action is very different. We don't know what the problem is or not you. It's a syatematci process of bring any law. If you are not supporting the current that's ok.
