Great reaction! It’s called cello boxing invented by Kevin. That’s how Scott found him. One of Kevin’s videos went viral. 💜
Kevin actually invented and coined the term "cello-boxing". It was this ability that led to his getting the Pentatonix gig! I actually prefer this version of the song to the Gaga/Cooper original for one simple reason. Kirstie & Scott (along with Mitch) are life-long friends who have been through a LOT together. They actually dated briefly in high school (before Scott came out), and are now closer than siblings. With all that history together, they have the ability to put SO MUCH MORE emotion into this powerful duet than two movie co-stars could ever hope to accomplish.
Kevin "only" came in second in a Yo-Yo Ma cello competition. He is freaking good on the cello.

Kevin is an awesome celloist and has played in Carnegie Hall at the age of 17, this video of him in 2011, ua-cam.com/video/NKVNrrrNxU0/v-deo.html, is how PTX found him to join them for a TV competition show called the Sing Off. They found Avi Kaplan (bass) through a friend and PTX was kind of born. More forthcoming about PTX if you keep watching there videos. Great work ethic from all of them. And Kevin gives overachievers a bad name.

Kevin playing cello and beatboxing on Beyonce (his name for his cello) is how they discovered him and KNEW from watching him that he would be the ultimate backbone of the group
Could you do a reaction to their cover of “Dancing on my own” This was when their original bass guy Avi had left and Matt had not joined them yet: It’s the only video with just the 4some of Scott, Mitch, Kirstin, & Kevin. It shows how great the original trio and Kevin’s great Celloboxing are.

Great reaction! And yes, as the comments suggest below, Kevin is a magical unicorn. How he can play legato cello while beatboxing is just beyond me. A couple suggestions if you're looking for their old stuff -- Run to You (an original), and a Macklemore cover "Can't Hold Us". Very different from each other, but both stunning.
"I don't think they could do a better job than they are" What a great comment!!! I'ts true... PTX perfects the alternative "upgrade" they make, they don't really cover. An example of their perfectionism is the PTX Bohemian Rhapsody. PTX worked on Queen's BR for five (5) years before they performed it / videoed it. And of course... it's PTX stunning perfection!

Love this song, it sung with such heartbeat / and passion. Kevin’s has played the cello for years. He was going too train as a doctor. 😅😂😂❤❤❤❤
Can he play the cello......Played Carnegie hall as a teenager playing cello and sax. Check out his version of Down on his channel. Your mind will be blown. Also played with Lindsey Sterling and the rest of Pentatonix doing a version of Radioactive.
Kevin is a master cellist. And he speaks fluent Chinese. And when Pentatonix was auditioning for NBC’s “The Sing-Off”, Kevin had just finished his premed studies at YALE. He chose PTX rather than med school. Don’t think he regrets that!
Kevin Olusola has his own youtube channel (KO) where does a lot of songs (covers) of various artist. One of his best cover is of the Marian Hill song "Down" where he beatboxes plays the cello and much more. It is amazing, You should do reaction video on it. It will "BLOW YOUR MINDS" !!!!!!
Matt has a smooth, beautiful bass that keeps the song moving.
If you like "Shallow", watch Acapop Kids! version. It is a kids' a cappela group founded by Scott Hoying of Pentatonix. The kids are 8-15 years old and they are AMAZING!
Can't recommend you enough for someone who is fairly new to Pentatonix to watch or react to The Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix. You will know and understand almost everything about them.
Kevin plays the cello, has perfect pitch, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese as well as being a world-class beatboxer.

With Avi- “Hallelujah” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies” may be their best other than “Daft Punk”. It really shows everyone’s talents.

Have you heard of Floor Jansen? Regardless of your answer, you could check out her rendition of "Shallow" in a Dutch tv show called Beste Zangers. Floor is the current lead singer of a Finnish symphonic metal band called Nightwish (sold millions of albums since 1996) but she wasn't widely known in her home country before but after the series aired she sold out nine big concerts in the Netherlands and Nightwish had to add another concert to Amsterdam because the concert sold out as well. She sang Shallow in Emma Heesters' episode. Emma is a young UA-camr cover artist and Shallow was one of her covers. Floor also performed Shallow as a duet in the show with Tim Akkerman. So, you might do a double reaction if you want to. ;)
If you love Pentatonix, you have to watch "Halleuja" - more than 680 million views - best cover ever! After that, you have to watch "Imagine" which will touch your soul and bring tears to your eyes. Peace!

Let's just face it, PTX rocks. However, if you ever react to this beginning, the sing off season 3. Shawn Stockman stated that Avi and Kevin were freaks of nature. Miss Avi and his overtone singing.
