Vertigo 2: the Other Boneworks

- Vertigo 2 is so good. The gameplay is smooth, the VR functionality is impeccable and it's plain funny. For me at least it's up there with Half life alyx and Boneworks. Certainly as good as Bonelab. And I have never heard of this game before. And there's even a Vertigo 1. How is that even possible?

Vertigo is like Accounting, BONEWORKS, High on Life, Half-Life, Trover Saves the Universe and Portal on every type of drug imaginable, and yet it makes complete sense.

@@greendude0420 Why? Space. That's why.
But with the writing and voice acting of a standalone mod. :D EDIT: This comment is purely based on the first 50 minutes of the game, after which I refunded it.

Habie finding the picture of himself was so heartwarming and awesome.
it takes your steam profile picture and puts it in the frame
@@HUDcats aw okay well, that is pretty cool in a whole other way.
Yeah it did the same for nano

The wall monster at 6:10 is actually voiced by Anton, the lead developer for H3VR.
Also, the walking hotdogs is a reference to H3VR.
I knew I recognized the voice from somewhere!
OH DAMN i thought i was tripping there lmao. Thanks for saying that!
The walking hotdogs also have a bunch of guns and will shoot at your enemies for you

I was barely interested in VR before I watched Habie. But now I have a raging need to strap a television to my face for hours on end

And then break your hands and controllers hitting walls because you thought the harder you punch the more damage it does even though that is not how it works at all.
@@Bone_Incidents i have smacked the shit out of my treadmill so much because steam doesnt think i have the space for vr in my room so i have no borders telling me where i am

Personally, I've been drooling over VR for years. I saw the untapped potential it had, which Habie has demonstrated is finally starting to be realized. It's just always been way, WAY out of my budget.
However, despite unexpectedly going from living paycheck to paycheck to hypothetically having enough income to buy a good setup on a whim and still be secure, I still can't even bring myself to spend more than about $70/week on food, nevermind dropping like $2k or more on a good PC and VR set lol
"Okay we get it, you played half life" is the most Habie insult ever. This guy was hired by Valve to work on Half Life, Portal, and the Valve index. 😅
ikr, Habie just assumes things.
@@willstillplys I mean he isn’t wrong though
I can 100% See why there so many Easter eggs to them
fyi, the dev in question works at Valve as a game developer. He got help from Valve to work on Vertigo 1 and 2 while he has been working for them.
A group of investors need to throw a few million bucks at him so he can run a 100 employee game studio so we can get a new Vertigo every year.
Habie may not be pregnant but he always delivers.

This video is my birthday present. Vertigo 2 is so good. Honestly one of if not my new favorite VR game. Played through the entire 6 hour campaign in three days. Sets a new standard for what’s possible in VR
Happy birthday home slice!
you beat it in only 6 hours????
I LOVE this game, it is so fun and creative. Very scary sometimes too.
It is so cool that 1 guy made this game.
HE puts so many studios to shame.
He puts the whole quote-unquote Triple A industry to shame and wipes the floor with it, nothing less than that.
It gives me so much faith in the indie vr scene that we don't need to rely on AAA devs to get the good stuff.
He had a ton of help from his employer, Valve. So hard to say, he alone, created it.
@@bearwithsunglassesandicecr5856 Vertigo 1 and 2 were made with help from Valve. The dev for Vertigo works at Valve as a game dev.
I beat this game a couple of days ago. It is one of the best games I've ever played. It's rare that I have just as much enthusiasm for a video at the end of the project as the start. The game is just that good. Also please go back and play the first one lol
Hell yeah. Definitely one of the best VR releases in a long time.
Looking forward to your review on it. Vertigo 2 deserves much more coverage than it currently gets.
Ive been playing the 1st game its very good. Gonna start 2 as soon as I finish the original
It will never stop blowing my mind that ONE GUY made two of the best vr games that are on the market right now
ehhhhh, he works at Valve and got a TON of help from them. Credit to him for being the sole dev, but he had the support of the people that literally invented modern VR and currently have the only AAA VR game out, on top of creating the best VR system, to date, so far.
@@evoliciousIdk man I have a index and quest pro ive sat my index in its box to stay for good at this point
Brett Driver (who played Arthur Ford from boneworks and Bonelab) also voiced some people in this game so I thought that was fun
WHAT. UP. SON!
this is what I've been waiting for. THIS level of enemy variety. I'm sick of people just standing still and shooting in vr games, or just running and hitting you. this is the creativity I've been waiting to see.
It's games like this that made me wish that both had a VR headset, and the ability to not throw up while playing a VR game.
The throwing up part will go away after a week, about 2 hours of playtime building up from 30 minute sessions. Once you get over it, you'll be able to push 2-3 hours and if you are doing seated sessions, MUCH longer. And the price of a Quest 2 isn't that bad. Buy the Link cable as well and you have yourself a VERY decent starter setup.
VR motion sickness is thankfully something that can be fixed with small sessions to get accustomed to the movement.
I personally use a Quest 2 which is pretty great for a wireless headset.
@@douwe4254to add to this, I have found that stick turning is much worse than moving backwards/forwards/sideways, so turning your head/body whenever possible helps.
@@douwe4254 ok how do you feel about the quest 2 without a PC? A friend has offered one to me for a good price, but I don't have a gaming PC to connect it to. Im worried about the lowered graphics and limited games being a big downer.
@@CardboardBones Most publishers try to get their games on standalone headsets rather than PCVR because that is where the larger market is
Vertigo 1 & 2 are my favourite bottled up fever dreams playable in VR, and I cannot express how happy it makes me to get completely floored sometimes with the weirdness it presents. Loll
0:54 I didn't know Minecraft Steve was in this game too
Vertigo 1 Remastered is unbelievably underrated, I'm glad you're able to shine a spotlight on the sequel.
how does it compare to #2
@@negrosanchez1678 I don’t recommend it honestly, it’s really short for the price, extra guns and a sandbox mode cost 8 dollars, and none of the guns feel satisfying to use. The game doesn’t look all that pretty too, it kinda looks like a Roblox game. 100% impressive for one person making it, and not bad, but not great either. That’s just me tho
@@negrosanchez1678 It's definetly not quite as grand as V2, took me a little under 4 hours to complete, but still a solid vr experience with some good moments. Worth picking up on a sale imo.
@@redengineer4521 It is better than 90% of the vr marketplace though
personally i absolutely loved it. im playing through vertigo 2 right now and i have to say they are pretty close in terms of enjoyablilty. It is expensive for only taking around 4-5 hours but there is one boss fight that was one of the coolest encounters i ever had in vr. the weapons kinda suck in the beginning until you get the second gun which is suprisingly smooth and fun to use. Also the levels are great and you just have a blast solving puzzles and killing enemies. Also the last few missions with the last gun are pretty great.@@negrosanchez1678
your reaction to seeing yourself in a game is priceless, you deserve this kind of recognition
It happens to anyone it just takes your steam profile pic.
On PSVR 2 it's just Brian. Who makes one appearance in this video, ascending into the ceiling of an elevator.
HABIE! There are like seven secret weapons in the game, portal gun included. You can have it in that part of the game. Don't forget to explore around because honestly that was the best part of the game for me, searching for secret weapons. And they're actually pretty useful too.
i absolutely loved this game, i cant wait for anyone to mod this and also sandbox
at 4:56 you are able to get that portal gun by going through a secret tunnel in the bottomless pit
btw you should upload a video of you playing the autonica chapter

It's games like this that always make me really hope VR continues to grow and evolve to its full potential. Actually inhabiting game worlds is so much fun, especially when so much imagination is involved.
It won't. Facebook bought up the market with a cheap data-stealing device sold to kids to use with social apps, and boomers occasionally using it for workouts during quarantine. The gaming market for VR is essentially dead. Which is why there has been a major refocus for the VR industry to move to XR in the workplace, which has also recently fantastically fell flat on it's face since literally no one wants that (Quest Pro, Hololens2, Varjo XR3, Apple w/e).
Just a week ago, Facebook and Apple have both stated they want to push back to gaming, but, the devices being used, are low-powered mobile devices. The VR enthusiasts that helped create this market and create the best VR games we have today, no longer use VR.
The developers that enjoyed working on VR see that no market exists for PCVR and cannot be financially incentivized to create quality apps, or do anything in the VR industry at all. VR development burnout is at it's last phase, with developers either straight up lying about the apps capabilities (Vail), or just deciding to close down the project becasue working on mobile andriod is a nightmare.
VR youtubers, such as Habbie are either new to the space, making overhyped game reviews, or reviewing new VR hardware. The rest have disappeared all together, and these VR youtubers will move onto other things soon enough once the content is caught up.
My suggestion is to not bend over to invest into VR unless you already have a very good gaming PC, and have money to burn on a decent VR system, and with that all in mind, be prepared to go through the burnout stages we all went though during VR's 7 years of existence. I'd say an average of about 500 hours total in content before you run out of apps to try. Majority of multiplayer content is plagued by screaming children, so it's best to avoid any and all multiplayer VR games.
Try the top tier games/apps like HLAlyx, Boneworks, Vertigo Remastered and Vertigo 2, Walking Dead S&S, Virtual Desktop, SuperhotVR, Compound, and the early gold titles like Gorn, B&S, Hotdogs horseshoes handgrenades, and VTOLVR.
Ported and modded content in key, like Skyrim VR, Half-Life 1 and 2 VR, Quake 4 VR, racingsims, MSF2020, etc.
There are plenty of great MP titles, but they are just too overrun by small children that will scream obscenities to you, in EVERY lobby. Best to just straight up only play SP titles in VR to avoid early burn-out.
Hardware side, get a Valve Index if you have a lot of money to get the best (most immersive) VR experience, otherwise, just get a Quest 2 with the bobo battery strap or just wait for Quest 3 that is coming this year.
For the love of Gaben, do not buy the PSVR2, any WMR, Vive, Varjo, Pimax, older Oculus kits, or anything else. Massive waste of money.
Do not buy any of these devices, they all have gimmicks and fatal flaws that ruin the experience.
Sincerely, someone that has been doing VR since the beginning, owns all the hardware and software, ESL VR, and knows what is best, concerning VR.
You good?@@evolicious

Hands down PCVR game of the year. Loved it from beginning to end. You did not say this but the guy who made this worked at valve.
Hey! I appreciate that r/thalassophobia edit, it's not anything too crazy but I know it took some extra effort and I appreciate that :)
I'll come back and watch the rest of this video later because I'm actually working my way through vertigo 2 myself. It's definitely every bit as trippy as it looks.

The "state of california" label on the antimatter rifle had me ROLLING 🤣🤣🤣🤣
“The other boneworks” imagine if this game was actually on the marrow engine and Stress Level 0 actually cared about their player base and they licensed the engine to other creators. This game looks awesome. I should probably buy a pc and get out of stand-alone VR
Welp, I'm curious how many copies of Vertigo and Vertigo 2 you're about to help sell, because I think it's going on my list, now.
I bought both lol
Habie, words cannot express how insanely happy I am that you made a video on this absolute masterpiece of a VR game. Not because it inspired me to get it or anything since I've already played both Vertigos and have been in love with this series of games for years now, but because hopefully it will inspire other people who haven't heard of these games before to actually give them the level of attention they deserve.
I have this game on my wish list and was fully prepared to sink all of my time into it, but then Breachers came out and i cant pull myself away from it.
This game is so fking good, every little asset just brims with personality, the game has a pretty much perfect split between serious story and lighthearted humor

Those hotdog people are actually a reference to Hotdogs, Horshoes, And Handgrenades, More commonly known as H3 VR. It's a gun-focused vr game, similar to pavlov, but without multiplayer
Holy shit they actually dropped the sequel and I just now am hearing about it
The Vertigo 2 picture is your Profile picture. I found it so funny when I found mine there
The best part about watching someone play VR is getting to see their genuine, actual double takes and hand motions when they see a picture of their UA-cam channel in a game they've never played. That's just a reaction you can't fake.
Doing a captcha in vr was weirdly fun

i love how the implication with how the water survival thing works is that your lungs still get filled with water and its still incredibly painful and you choke on it except now u dont actually suffocate. i mean yeah you can hold your breath but
7:33 it's a reference to Meat Fortress
Hey habie i played the demo for this and you can get a portal gun in a office with a giant hole thanks for covering this game!!
a little history here, vertigo was one the of the first motion control vr games made, it came out originally back in 2016, and then finally it got a remaster, so technically this is the original boneworks
Had a dream that i was playing this and squidward popped out of a bush with no arms and said "are those YOUR travel legs?" And i just said "i dont have any"
2:55 ok yeah, that was clever af dude gg
Fun fact, Vertigo 1 has lots of elements that inspired some of the storytelling of Boneworks. Also the early game guns of vertigo 2 were developed yearsssss ago, before the games that im assuming you thing influenced them came out. The developer that made this is actually amazing, he even made a tool for unity that lots of people use to have specific hand poses when picking up certain objects in VR.
I use a PSVR2 and this is coming out next month, so excited to play this! 10 hour campaign, beautiful setting, and amazing physics. Gonna play this instantly!!
You didn't HAVE to kill every last gremlin, Habie. You GOT to kill every last one. You're welcome.
It took me a second to get that the joke behind "Water 2 (DO NOT DRINK)" Is H2O2.
I Saw the vidéo Yesterday and right now i juste finish vertigo 1 and about halfway through the second one. Litteraly best story vr game
Boundary just released on steam, even though it's not VR it's one of the coolest FPS that I've played. You should check it out
I was so mad when I found this game because I had thought I played all the best single player VR games and steam had never once recommended either Vertigo 1 or 2 to me. It's like steams trying to hide the game for some reason.
I love this game. And yes that’s your steam profile picture. Blew my mind too.

It's halflife and bonelabs with atleast eight different drugs if you squished it down into a small little block of horrific amazement
I think the guy who made vertigo was hired by valve to work on half life alex
Honestly vertigo and vertigo 2 itches that second half of my vr brain really well. If boneworks and bonelab is how i want to feel in vr then vertigo and vertigo 2 is how i want to experience the world in vr. Boneworks/lab is so good at interaction and physics it feels amazing to play because you can just do whatever the fuck you want to. But vertigo 1 and 2 is so good at spectacle and emersion it just sucks you in and gives you that feeling of playing your first "real" vr game. Im super excited to see the future of vr where those two parts of vr specifically meet. Those two parts (interaction/physics and absolute emersion into a whimsical large world) would be fantastic to see eventually.
genuinely when I first saw it I thought it was some type of mod for boneworks
I've recently got into Tactical Assault: VR (tried on my brother's Quest 2, bought my own just to keep playing)
I highly recommend it

Absolutely you should play vertigo remastered, it’s not quite as polished as 2 but it’s still in my opinion one of the best VR games ever made.
I just realized why this one is so popular he is the real-life equivalent of a cartoon
in the first hour this video has 4 times more views than Vertigo 2 has Reviews of all times on steam. I think that says something about how underrated the games is. Also a little comparison, at the time of commenting this Vertigo 2 has 563 Reviews, while bonelab has 10461 reviews.
The water 2 can is such a clever joke
the Sosigs as they are known are from H3VR (Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades) great VR Gun sim and fun to rip up the sausage people with your bare hands
5:22 it’s just a photo frame with the player’s steam profile image
this game single handedly puts the AAA vr market to shame and it was made by ONE guy
Vertigo was made by Valve dev, which is why it's so polished like a AAA VR game, and has just about every element of a Valve game. The guy works at Valve as a game dev.
Really not that hard to have looked up the dev.
The goblin behind bars in the sewer looked like a ds1 reference to me

High on life in vr
Vertigo is so good. Excited to play 2
I played the demo when it first released and it was one of the best VR experiences I had. Now the game is fully out it’s ten times better than the demo. Love the series, hope we get more of them. Praise the Dev, thank you for an amazing game. Also great video @habie147.
