4:16 the fact you picked up a virtual item that technically has no mass or weight and said "wow this thing is heavy" is a testament to Boneworks, and VR in general.
Boneworks, more than any other game, really conveyed a sense of weight in objects and my own movement in the environment. When I was reaching up to jump and catch a ledge to mantle up onto it, I grunted and struggled without thinking about why I was doing that when I was only waving controllers over my head. Your mind gets into that sort of space surprisingly easily, and hefting around heavy objects genuinely feels like trying to balance a heavy object in your hands so you can carry it. There was another part where I had to get a very heavy, large object moved so I could get to a secret area. I couldn't lift it with just my arms, so I had an idea, and rocked it on its side, crouched down, reached over my shoulders to grab it, then hoisted it up on my back, and uncrouched. I could slowly carry it this way over to the area I needed it, and it felt like a herculean task, despite not being real at all. Everyone should play Boneworks at least once, I think, if only to experience that level of presence in a virtual space.
@@FloatyBones77 The game does a great job at making "heavy" in-game objects require slow, deliberate, and inertia-filled movements to move around. Like the easiest way to swing a sledgehammer in the game it to treat it like it weighs 40lbs

Yeah. Everything felt amazing when I just got it. The one thing I had trouble with was the sharp melee weapons. The weapons don't really stick, like they did in saints and sinners, so it feels more like swinging a blunt object, which is why I only stabbed, shot, and bludgeoned my enemy's

Boneworks is a masterpiece and I'm shocked that nobody has even tried to make anything else like it yet. It's been years.

The thing I love about this game is that everyone’s play through is different. You can solve different problems in different ways. Like in my playthrough, I climbed up a water tower and jumped down to get over a wall, but when I look at other people play, they might maybe complete a puzzle, or stack boxes up to get over. This game was designed so that there’s no wrong answers. Another thing I love is that you can use the environment to your advantage. You can headbutt enemies, slam their head against walls, or just trap them inside of trash cans if you want to. This is the first truly immersive VR game I have ever played. In this game you are constantly looking around you for different things you can use to solve puzzles or to get past enemies.

Boneworks has a story. But it's left to the player to figure out the details intentionally, so if you don't care for story it won't get in your way of playing the game. That and it's only the second game in a 6 part series of games with interconnected lore...

I kept up with the development on the Node channel, as rare as it was. They were veeeery clear and open that an enormous amount of inspiration came from half life, with the setting, the aesthetic, and some of the weapons and enemies
That's true. In fact, the prototype which SLZ brought over to Valve was so good that Valve tried to replicate it and was too incompetent to succeed, which resulted in the dumbed down gameplay of HL:A. HL:A was gonna be even worse than what it ended up being, though, it was not even gonna have smooth locomotion before SLZ came onto the scene.
I like to think of it as Valve not wanting to risk having a VR game as a failure. So they hired another studio to be a pioneer for them. Then if it fails they can just distance themselves from said studio; Or if it succeeds, they can take credit. Win win!
@@EnigmaGameMaster that's a rather pessimistic look at the situation. Boneworks to me is just okay. From the full avatar being obstructive to the fairly weak resource management and AI. When I was fighting enemies I had a few robot spider things coming at me but only so many bullets in my clip before I had to reload. One of them jumped at me when my clip was empty and I instinctively turned my rifle around and hit the spider with the butt of the gun. To my surprise it actually worked. I mean, algorithm or not, I showed up and I'm digging your videos. Enjoyable to listen to, and instead of super crazy yelling and nonsense, just seems like watching myself play these games lol. Keep up the cool videos!
Now you've got hla to play
Bro don't underestimate how interesting your videos are. I love this stuff.
I beg of you to get into modding the game, it just gets better when you mod
Best examples? The fun of this game vanilla hasn't even ended for me yet.
5:54 You did this alot different from me, I didn't even realize I could shoot the turrets to turn them off, so I just held a crablet corpse in front of my face LOL
50k or 500k??
Let me predict the future :
Next vid: hf: alyx is better than boneworks
As a game yes, alyx is much better. But in terms pf physics boneworks is ahead. Anyway they re both masterpieces
I bought alyx last year and never finished it. I remember it being amazing but I went back to non VR games. I need to go back to it.
@@TylerLL2112 i know it s not perfect..especialy on moving stuff. But it s an amazing game !! How could you back to non vr games after that ! For me it s exactly the opposite. Couldn't back to non vr games. There is also medal of honor ( after patch ) which is also such a fun game !
@@DJeb86 Not enough of my friends played VR so, I moved back to non VR to play with them. VR is quite a bit more fun. I’ve been eying MoH. I’ve played them since the first one. Just heard people with 3090s saying it ran bad so I wasn’t sure my 2080super would run it well.
@@TylerLL2112 well i have a 6800 xt, runs well, at max resolution on quest 2, the game get updated and better optimization, true that in initial release version it was a crap, but no longer now, it could be better, but good enough. People with a 1070 runs it so no worries about ur 2080. Also be patient at mission 1 the game is too slow and bit frustrating, but from the mission 2 it s pure fun, highly recommended.
I’m so glad my brother introduced me to you, I just got Boneworks and this is my first video of yours!
I'm seriously enjoying your content mate! Hope to see more!
im glad you are rocketing up finally. someone had done a video about once you reach a certain threshhold the algorythem finally notices you, something like 20% viewership
Habie im very happy your channel is growing at the rate it is, you are an amazing youtuber. keep it up broski
Your reaction to the game really matches mine the first time. This game is a treasure, even though it might be janky a bit.
I started playing boneworks 6 days before this was uploaded, you can never be late to it, unless if you just bought it, even though bonelab is so close to being released
Well I guess I'm riding that algorithm train too. I got your VRampire video in the recommendations on another VR channel today and well, here I am. Another happy sub.
Brandon and his team have an insane work ethic, and the skills to match.
I am glad to have found your corner, I will now go and watch more of your videos to see if you are worth my subscription.
Nah man you do deserve it. Wholesome content! I can't wait to be there once your channel blows up
I've been around since ur first couple videos and I just wanted to say I'm really proud of you!!! You deserve all the love you're getting mmmmmmWAH
I’ve binged a bunch of your videos today and I gotta say, keep it up! I’m really glad the algorithm put you in my DMs, but you didn’t just get lucky. You captured my attention with your personality and editing style and I can’t wait for your next video!
been watching for a good while now and so happy the youtube gods are giving you the audience you deserve
You have a great energy as well as a great way of presenting your opinion. Very well put.

We watch you because you're real, you're humble, your funny as hell and explain things in a great way with that smooth brain. At the end of videos you're always hoping that others are doing well. You're just a real bro, man.

It looks like I'm a month late to this hype train, but I'm glad youtube brought me here eventually. Keep up the good work, smooth-brain!
