  • I ordered a few new pieces of gear and wanted to show why I did and how they will be used. Check out the Sirui AM 225 US tripod, which is the smaller version of my AM 284 US tripod, and the removable center column, the SL-200.

    Subbed. I've just ordered the AM-225, AM-254 & AM-284 as I couldn't decide what size I wanted for a travel tripod with my A7iii. I'll probably end up keeping two of them !

    Watched several of your videos as I research a new tripod. Great job helping build familiarity with Siriu. I might suggest however that you set the tripod up so we can see the working height. If we knew your height and saw you with the tripod, it would help get an idea how much bending over needs to be considered. Adding the center column option makes that even more helpful. Sitting with them at a table viewed through a wide-angle lens is a struggle.

    I have three of the Sirui tripods and love them. Both the Carbon and Aluminum. What I don't like is their customer service.

      I've loved their customer service even when I wasn't an Ambassador with them. That is one of the reasons I have continued using their products. I've had trouble getting parts from all the previous manufacturers that I have used, but they have always been great. Let me know if I can ever help you out with them.

      @@davidakoubian3025 As with any manufacturer some people have issues. I have been trying for three years to get replacements on the screw in rubber feet. I screwed in the metal spikes and somehow lost two of the rubber ones. I have filled the form out several times. Had a number of phone and email exchanges with pictures and part number from the diagram. Heck they even know when I call what I am calling about. I believe I even talked to them at Imaging USA once about it. Even given my credit card. NOTHING. For a part that would most likely to be lost they have no plan for replacing. Hell I coach sales and sales management people and this is horrible. But I do like their products and for the price you can beat it anywhere. They are sturdy and take a beating.

    Greetings David. Thank you for your overview of the AM-225 + SL200 combination. Hoping to get a thorough review of them soon.
    • I'm curious though if you find yourself often attaching that center column? If so, knowing that you have to detach and attach the head and the SL200, do you find it somewhat irritating such that you should've gone with a tripod with a center column installed (such as the T-024SK or the A1205+Y11)? If you don't use the center column much since your type of photography doesn't demand them, do you think it's more sensible to just be sure and buy one with a center column instead?
    • I'm attracted to either the AM-225+B00K or the AM-254+A10 because they're not too bulky to pack. BUT if it would greatly annoy me to attach and detach components to get my desired height, then maybe it's better for me to go with a standard tripod with a center column.
    • The Traveler 7c would've been perfect if it isn't for its bulk with almost 19-inches folded length.
    • I'm just a documentary-hobbyist photographer who wants to invest on a tripod for use in the long term for general photography purposes.
    Thank you.

      I attach the center column sometimes, but I would not change my decision of no center column as part of the build. The removal of the center column is what allows it to be so compact. There is a huge difference in size when working around a center column that is between the 3 legs, or the increased size of the platform.

    • @nathanielngosy
      @nathanielngosy 3 роки тому +1

      @@davidakoubian3025 Thanks for your response. It's understandable that we want our tripods to be as compact and portable as it can be. It's just that I'm also putting myself in a situation where it could be annoying to adjust the tripod legs in order to achieve your desired height should I opt not to go into the trouble of attaching the SL200 (or perhaps, forgetting to bring it with you).

    David I almost pulled the trigger on the 284 after watching your videos. My only concern is the max height at less than 48in. I know there’s an optional center column, but that still seems so short. Are you finding the limited height to be a problem?

    • @davidakoubian3025
      @davidakoubian3025  3 роки тому +1

      I'm not personally. I mainly use it with my Sony's and the tilting screens make it so I don't have to bend over constantly. It is a trade-off with the compactness and weight for sure.

    Hi, I was wondering how you’ve found the am-225 in use? Has it been stable enough? I do lots of landscape photography in the highlands of Scotland involved long distance hikes, so I’m looking for something very lightweight, I’m just a bit concerned that this particular tripod may be a bit too wee. Thanks, Ash

      My guess is the 225 is not a good choice for Scotland. Too windy. Plus skinny legs at 5 leg sections is likely too unstable. The 284 is probably a better choice with the 4 leg sections and thicker tubes. Note, I think these may have a very narrow first leg angle which also makes it less stable.
      Good luck!
