Despite some of the missing features for non-electronic music creation (like articulation mapping for instruments that use keyswitches), I ultimately chose bitwig over studio one during my recent escape from FL Studio due to your last point. This thing is STABLE. Studio One bricked two projects while I was demoing it due to the DAW hanging on the loading of a few plugins, but Bitwig just said "hey these aren't loading. You'll just have to reload them," and proceeded to open everything else. It's incredible.

You can add a drum machine on your track and rename the pads as the corresponding articulations. To be able to do this, first you must click one of the pads and press cancel when the window pops up to add a sample. By doing that you can rename any pad. Sure, it's not a real solution, but it's better than nothing.

I've just started my journey and I'm a total newbie, but agree, Bitwig is an amazing DAW. I tried Pro Logic and Ableton Live for a bit than gave Bitwig a try. I after getting used to the layout etc, I find it to be the most intuitive and with the best designed user interface. Also PL and Live crashed on me a number of times while demoing. BW hasn't so I appreciate the stability. If you are new to DAWs, seriously consider Bitwig.

Interesting to see a lot of Reaper users commenting. I'll say the same, Reaper my landing pad now, I still use Ableton for electronic writing out of familiarity. Bitwig seems really cool but there are still core features of Ableton that I find more welcoming when the focus is on writing music over sound design. I personally still prefer the UI of Ableton, to me it's softer & more consistent than the blockier look of Bitwig. I used to worry about the stability of Ableton but now that Reaper takes place as the main landing pad it's not really an issue.

You need to be REEEEAALLLY careful when adding effects to the Feedback FX chain of any delay plugin though. Make very sure that whatever effect you put on does not add more db, than the feedback setting of the delay plugin removes with each tap. Secure your ears by always putting a limiter behind a delay or having some way of emergency unplug whenever you play with delays.

Bitwig has the best stock plugins, best plugin system (modulators, tank fx, super fast user experience)

Least they can do is the easy access to select scale in piano roll and option to hide out of scale notes. Anything that makes it easy to do midi programming will be useful.

I love Bitwig, it's one of my fav DAW and I use it as my secondary DAW. But if you are not making a certain kind of music, then this DAW might not be for you. And the reasons you mentioned, those are truer for Reaper as well and there are way too many features that Reaper can do but bitwig can't like audio to midi, scale lock in the midi editor and the list goes on. But despite that, modulation is its biggest selling point, which is why I keep coming back to it.

Not a fan of clickbait titles like this.
The best DAW is always the one that matches intuitively to your brain and way of thinking and the use case.
Bitwig has some things i would love to see in Ableton, but the things i missing in Bitwig weighs more.
Those are not about possibilities but workflow.
Also the use case matters, for most musicians Pro Tools would be a horrible DAW, but for the guy who does the recording and batch editing of a large orchestra, it has just the right workflow for many audio engineers.

I'm starting to play with Bitwig again after not having an upgrade plan for a few years. Reaper is still my goto for most things. One thing Bitwig sorely misses is a note step entry system like either Ableton (hold notes, move left/right with cursor keys to enter/delete) or Reaper (press, release and notes are inserted and the cursor auto advances). Not being able to 'type in' chords and note sequences is something really holding me back.

Bitwig is not Ableton. It has concepts from Ableton, but it focuses on its own thing. It is a modern DAW for electronic music of today. A lot of programs today are great, but really lack the tools we need. From what i know, Ableton has been slow asf with keeping up with the now. I have heard a lot of people have had creative blocks using A lot of other programs. Crashing is another massive pain in the ass. Every program needs sandboxing. Holy shit. Bitwig is 10 years old and has exploded on the scene. I remember when xilent started using it back in 2014 and i was super skeptical. Over the years i saw a massive change. Ableton has also been criticized about how they dont really listen to thrir users and have been throwing out stuff nobody asked for. However, both programs have their issues. Bitwig is a tool for a certain user. Bitwig is very modular and sound design based. Because a lot of people are doing stuff for games, movies, commercials, etc. i guess itakes it easier. Ableton is more focused on live performance and live experimentation. Both can do the job. One can do it better.
