    I saw your screamo video and I'm so happy to see you making another video. Seriously there's no other video on youtube that goes over this stuff the way you are and I really appreciate that.

      I had never listened to this band before, but I just checked them out (it sounds sick) and I noticed a few things that may be helpful. 1) There's a lot of polyrhythm going on, the guitar and drums often play an overlapping pattern that shifts in how 'in time' it is with the other instrument. 2) A lot of the sound in the band comes from the way the drummer is able to play off what the guitarist is doing, which is mostly just picking out chords with different voicings. 3) Seems like a big part of the formula for the more 'angular' chords is just to play a nicer jazz chord and then sort of move all of your fingers like up or down a half-step until you get something you like. There's also a lot of jazz chord + just letting the top one or two strings ring out regardless of voicing.

    Thank you for explaining all this hardcore Skramz concepts, really hard to find beginner friendly information on the genre!
    I'd like to suggest a local FL band named "Gillian Carter" (Not mathy) you may like them, very hardcore with post-rocky parts, brings in harmonica and slide guitar bits. Tons of different moods across their albums.

    • @jamecono
      @jamecono  4 місяці тому +1

      oh wow hah umm idk if it really matters that much. something thick enough that it doesn’t rattle around too much at a lower tuning?

  • @bodietoman5154
    @bodietoman5154 3 місяці тому

    Your videos are incredible thanks alot. However, I dont quite understand what you mean by the 2 highest strings being only half steps higher from each other. For drop c tuning would that mean to tune the e down additional steps

    • @jamecono
      @jamecono  3 місяці тому +1

      Sorry if that wasn't clear, I mean tune your highest string so that it's a half step above your second highest string. So in C standard I think that would be B flat.

    Maybe this is a weird question but I’ve really been struggling with getting the Screamo vocals down. Do you know how to sing, and if so do you have any tips?

    • @jamecono
      @jamecono  4 місяці тому +1

      In terms of clean singing, it's all about controlling air and ear training. In terms of screaming, I can't really help, I'm very soft spoken, and my own 'harsh' delivery doesn't really break up super easily. There are a lot of resources, and I've thought about asking vocalists I know if they'd want to do a tutorial on here, so that may happen in the future.

    when you say diminished do you mean minor? You describe minor 2nds when you are doing the half step movement. And then when you say “diminished” in relation to a Tritone, it can be a diminished 5th, but your flippant use of the term “diminished” is quite confusing. Makes it seem meaningless

    • @jamecono
      @jamecono  4 місяці тому +3

      my bad! i didn’t go to music school. yr right, i should have said minor 2nd.
