My husband makes more than I do, but he pays the price for his income...he has a 2 hr ride to work and home. Therefore he's tired all of the time when he's home. I put money aside so he can retire early. We have no debt, so I can put more money aside. At our age, we have more than enough. Christmas is about toys for the pets. Last night we filled the Kong with peanut butter and gave it to our dog. Happy New Year!
I think that defining your 'enough' point is critical. I discovered that I need very little to be quite content. I don't need new, different, or upgraded. I am happy with what I have, and only replace when I have no choice, and even then it's reluctant because I like to keep the things I have because I like their familiarity and dependability. A good post for a new year and for those who want a new financial start.
I recently changed the drive belt on our electric dryer. A straight -forward job with simple hand tools. Replacement belt cost on Ebay was under 10 bucks. An appliance repair service would have charged at least $ 150. Thanks for another great video and all your excellent advice.
My goal this year is to spend less than I did last year. I’m trying this thing called No Spend Month. If I succeed then I’ll continue it on the following month and so on. I am glad I discovered your videos here on UA-cam. You explain things so simple. Thank you so much! I hope you have a prosperous year!
I find that some frugal people really do become cheap, with food. They will buy horrible meats and bouillon cubes etc that contain all kinds of harsh additives and chemicals (like MSG etc). Sometimes it pays to buy the better items. And you can still do it frugally. Look for sales and learn to use coupons. The best way is when you have a coupon and use it during a sale. I done this multiple times. Also, shopping the clearance rack for those breads that you love, you will save 1/2 the money. Just look all around and make sure it's good. And freeze right away when you get home.
Happy new year! Love your channel. This year for Christmas I only bought a few gifts for my husband, sons and their girlfriends. Usually I overspend and then January’s credit card bill comes.. but not this year, a few special gifts for each of them and no debt from it.
I was just visiting my family in Germany and noticed how they don’t need so many things because they keep and maintain their things for decades so there is little frivolous spending and more money for nice experiences. They also don’t buy things they don’t have the money for. I live like that here too and am super content with all that I have even if it’s not the latest, greatest thing. Happy 2024! 🎊🥂
Happy New Year! 🥂 Maybe we need to change from being frugal to being purposeful. Frugal indeed feels like being cheap and sacrificing while being purposeful feels like making choices that work for you without waste but also without a life that's too sufferable because of self imposed "below of means" living. Taking care of domestic chores make sense when you can't use your time and energy for more doing something else. Mileage vary depending on your qualifications, opportunities available etc. You're absolutely right about consistency. It's a must for any content producer. Not only quantity but quality wise. Self control is surely a must but not only on the consuming side, but on the productive one. It's very difficult to push through the pain and work when you're tired, for example. Congratulations on your move! Being free to move anywhere anytime is priceless! Have a safe trip!
Loved your statement about finding the balance. I always buy pizzas from an Italian restaurant on the last day of school vacation. Now I will enjoy it even more.
Great content as usual, Austin! Welcome back to Georgia! I do love the climate here in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, but it has gotten very populated and expensive since you left. I wish you all the best in 2024!
This video is my 1st video watched in 2024-congrats! 😅 Great examples of how frugality is different for different people. (That's why I like your videos-you talk about things differently than other YT's.) Blessings for 2024! Are you going to do something new like live out of a van in warm Georgia, or are you getting married?
Augustin would you define being “cheap” ? I consider myself a frugal person because I hate to waste money but I also like quality. I read labels in food and clothes and seek bargains but won’t buy cheap quality food and non food items. I knew ( now deceased) a person who saved a lot of money and ate cheap food and denied themselves things and what ended up happening is that the person developed type 2 diabetes and ultimately cancer and passed away. Disease snuck up and rendered his money useless because he didn’t have enough time to enjoy it. I reflected on this and came to the conclusion that frugality is good but being cheap (eating unhealthy cheap food and saving money in the bank) is not smart. This person ran out of life before running out of money. Balance is essential in living a frugal lifestyle. People please don’t be cheap and sacrifice your health. Don’t deprive yourself. Health is priceless. Life is precious. Thank you for your channel. Continued success to you.
All signs point to 2024 being a year of significant economic hardship for the entire nation. Put your cash to use straight away to increase its value. I was aware that I needed to invest. I had no idea how quickly a few thousand dollars a month would go up. Though it is. Since 2020, I've made about $600,000.
Congrats. The true financial unlock comes when you understand and know the technique required to manage your investment's overall risk profile and avoid permanent capital loss. It is critical to have a strategy in place to capitalize on profits when they occur.
If you don't want to crash and burn, you should seek the advice of a fiduciary counselor when you first start out. Because their entire skill set is based on going long and short at the same time, they employ a profit-driven strategy based on individual risk tolerance.
Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.
this is definitely considerable! think you could suggest any professional/advisors i can get on the phone with? i'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation
Well, there are a few out there who know what they are doing. I tried a few in the past years, but I’ve been with Melissa Terri Swayne for the last five years or so, and her returns have been pretty much amazing.
Dance dresses give me value; I enjoy dancing in my pretty dresses. Eating out brings me value; I enjoy eating with other people since I am single and eat at home alone most of the time or at my desk. Both dancing and eating out are social interactions that I value. Like you say, everyone has a different situation.
Hi, good luck with your move can't wait to see your new place! And very motivating! Thank you you've helped me so much! And you're very entertaining! HNY!
Austin, you made me laugh so much this morning but it was a good distinction to make. I wouldn't want to wish someone the wrong thing! I appreciate the efforts you make to keep us all educated in the ways of the mighty dollar. Thank you
Austin, I like the concepts you compile in these videos. In this video, using the image of the shopping crush to illustrate the contentment discussion was particularly powerful.
I woke up to this video and the TDJ drama 😂😂 Happy New year! Cheers to a great year! That’s fun that you are moving! Last year watching your videos helped me a lot to start saving!
Austin, you are wise beyond your years!! Thank you so much for this timely video. I made a yearly bullet journal and saved a page for my goals and all 12 fit perfectly for my 2024 goals. Good luck with your move and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Congrats on your move! I live in Colorado at over 9000 ft. and I'm so ready to move where it's warmer. I know I will miss the mountains though. I'm just waiting for my husband to be ready to retire.
I kind of force myself to live frugally. I only buy "that cute new outfit", whatever it happens to be on any given day, once or twice a month. I rarely spend money on things I want, cuz Ive found lately that there's not a lot I actually want. Last month, other than holiday related spending, the only thing I bought for myself was some black lip color and some lip gloss. This month, thus far, I just bought a pair of avia leggings. Im not omitting anything from last month. Other than some snacks to eat at work, I bought nothing else I didn't need all month despite the holiday season, and I see this continuing now that I feel way more calm and confident at work. With less spending, I have financial security. With financial security, Im able to be less stressed. With less stress, I can focus more. With more focus, Im more confident in what Im doing and less afraid of losing my job. When I say "force frugality", I mean I prioritize saving over all else. The thing that I want with my money is supplimental income. So, Im investing in 4 paying companies, of which I reasonably believe are healthy. At the moment, I'm reinvesting those dividends, but the more I save, the more I intend to invest, and hopefully I can permanently retire to part time in the future. By frugality, me and my wife only took one vacation all year. We went to NYC on our 3 year anniversary. That alone was too much money. We do our best to avoid things that could be costly. We don't want a car, we ride the bus. I may get a mo-ped or an ebike, but nothing more. We rarely eat out. The last time we did that was in the city in mid november. With that massive debt gone, I calculated my leftover money. On a job that's barely above my states minimum wage, im expecting to keep at least 400 dollars excess per month. Maybe a lot more. Then add my investments, alone, my capital gains probably make up for between 500 and 1k of my assets. Thanks to my frugality, low cost of living, loving wife, and the fact that I finished paying off a massive debt, and am working on another, one being $90/m, the other being $297/m, with that $297 debt being officially done, I expect to hit 10k in assets later this year, possibly before my birthday in april. At the start of 2023, I had no money, or assets and tens of thousands in debt, now I have a net worth of $2k. On $8k in assets. Frugality on this massive scale despite being paid $15.3/hr at walmart is only possible cuz my rent is 650 and I split the bill with my wife. We both pay 325. Everything is split 50/50 bill wise, if we both use it. Thanks to this, I have been lucky enough to blow up financially, and I hope that someone may read this and find it useful.
Happy New Year Austin ! Loved this video, and yes, it is all about balance, which I’m always working on. Hope your move goes well, and so excited for you ! 🎉🎉
Happy New Year sir! Sometimes I watch your videos and think that it’s more of the same and then boom 💥 the balance argument and showing that with frugality you can buy freedom as you have demonstrated. To a great 2024! 🎉
Great information love the content. Self control is so important. 👌 enjoy a prosperous new year !🎉 #11 makes so much sense. I rather cook enough for 2 meals at a time and if I eat out I get the lunch menu where it's half off. I get soda water instead of a soda.😊
