We still have our 2007 1.9 Life TDi, with 185 000km. Honestly the most versatile car I have owned. It's a mom's taxi, holiday car, tow car, bakkie, you name it. And then light on fuel too.
When talking about alternatives to cars you're testing, it would be a good idea to also point out second hand cars people can get instead. Since you sell used cars on your site
Im a South African living in New Zealand, i like the previous generation of these but hard to find in New Zealand and expensive if you do find them so i went for Honda Odyssey RB1 ..Feels like and drives like an accord and handles really well.
VW put together this MPV very cheaply. why no leather steering, leather seats and so much plastic on a R600 000 car. make no mistake it will do its job well with no issues as 7 Seats are practical.
In the UK DSG was pretty much all that was available. Interesting how the specification is different for different countries. Steering wheels are leather here.
Great car and now that it comes with a great gearbox, i will actually consider it (but never with a DSG)....DSG`s are expensive and unreliable gearbox`s and they cost an arm and a leg when things go wrong with them or the clutch`s need replacing.
@@erichweggelaar1320 get into a kia or a Ford or whatever you like for that price and everything will be leather and you will have electric Windows all around like every car since 1974. And if you haven't been in the new Chinese cars for example the GWM P series you are in for a big surprise they are better than the competition in so many ways. You buy a VW for the same reason you buy a Rolex over a Omega it's because it says VW. And unlike the Chinese or Korean cars nothing in a VW comes standard. I'm sorry but instead of paying almost 900000 rand for a GTI that's worse than the previous version id buy myself a i30n or a bmw 128ti.
@@adriaanserrao2016 And the fact that now this Chinese cars offer even best warranty makes their cars more attractive. Haval H6 is still cheaper than this Caddy and offer better features and more.
Bought a Caddy Maxi in 2013 for R263 000. That was a bargain. Then as they became more popular, VW increased the price dramatically. Very practical, but noisy. As kids grew bigger, Caddy became too small. Rather get a 1 year old Kombi for R600 000. Much better option.
Where I’m at, there’s heavy traffic and even uphill traffic. A manual is a huge no for me. Besides, I would never spend over half a million Rands on a mere manual car, yikes!
i kinda hate what VW is doing lately with their normal models.. they just like hey its fine make it cheap they will buy it trust me... then they put it on sale for mad prices. super practical tho have to agree perfect for van life peeps
Thank you vw and other car brands for keeping the manual alive don't know why people bitch about it apart from being lazy unless you have a physical disability
Crio when are you really coming to Durban?....surely in summer our weather will permit and hopefully most of our flooded infrastructure will be repaired. It will be nice to see you around town mate !!!
Wonderful van, my Fiat doblo 1.6 Multijet has enough power can average around 5.5/6.0 per hundred problem parts are expensive and available mostly at dealerships.
600k...for that..? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Imagine going through the Karoo in peak summer on the way to CT with no way to cover yourself from the sun through that panoramic roof..? You`d all have sunstroke by the time you got halfway from Jhb to CT...
Ciro, thank you for yet another fascinating review. If I may ask, do you have a review on the Nissan Magnite coming soon? Just something for you to know, some the vehicles in SA end up here in Zimbabwe(despite the ridiculous pricing). To be honest I think VW missed some steps with the capacitive buttons and the touch screen climate control. They should have focused on what made these vehicles great, simplicity and reliability with the price coming down to suit it. All those things are meant for their passenger cars not their commercial cars.
Love your reviews in general BUT it would be even better if you showed some more of the vehicle's features. I mean, that touch screen : I'm sure it has Android Auto/Apple CarPlay? I saw a reverse camera in the close up of the rear. It appears to have park sensors front and rear. Why not spend another ten minutes on ALL your car reviews to give viewers a true sense of what the car offers. Also, how about a 0 to 100 in your reviews. Saying it has 81kw and 300N.m and drives well is kind of meh... Us gearheads want to know how fast it is....
I have one and love it but there is a big problem ,taking out the rear seats ,they could of design like the dodge caravan stow and go ,in the floor ,which I also had in Canada
R280k for the panelvan and R320k for this would be competitive. Its a delivery van not a limousine for Pete's sake! VWSA really are a bunch of rippoff artists...
While I agree completely, you might have missed the part (near the beginning) where it was mentioned that the cargo version is shorter and obviously does not have more than seating for the driver and the front seat passenger. Added a few centimeters in length and those seats couldn't be done for free.
PracticalI agree, but i feel this vehicle was rushed for the remaining tdi engines as electric cars are coming thick and fast, the front of this car is evident to what will be the design language for electric vehicles. If you remove all the VW badges on this car, this is a Peugeot in every angle.
Thanks for review - the manual is a big no no - I would rather have postponed the launch :) What do you think comparing this to something like a new Mitsubishi Outlander space and practicality wise? Seems with the sunroof added on the VW the Mitsubishi will be around R50K less...
Sorry dude. The review is top notch. The car is kaka. For that price you looking at a top end Haval H6. No competition. And when you gloss over a sunnroof that has no cover then you r really overselling a delivery van. I do like the ability to remove seats, but similar can be achieved by putting seats down in a H6 or Tiggo 8.
I have been telling my significant other that Caddy's are very practical in SA conditions. It is however difficult to convince the fairer sex that this is indeed a sexy vehicle.
Soon VW are going to have to switch from pod coffee to Koffiehuis in their showroom canteens to compensate for their loss in sales. Pride comes before a fall.
when did we start accepting these ridiculous prices and price fixing for cars in SA. its people with too much money, companies and gov. departments, car allowances that contribute to this trend. I think there are too many peopl in this country who will never experience a new car or a car at all. something must be done
I'd recommend people get the previous gen. It looks better and is more premium than this. VW is stupendously overpriced these days. There's nothing that this car convinces me with to prove its R600k+ price tag.
DSG is NOT auto, they give hassles because they are driven like an auto... Dumb move to move cruise control buttons to the steering wheel, the end-of-stalk setup on my Touran works better/easier...
I love how practical this vehicle is but cannot stand the cheap plastics, that rear door pad cover and all the exposed metal. And then there is the price. Way over priced.
I'm in agreement! One of the best family cars one can buy! My whole house and the 2 little people I own plus their belongings fit in it comfortably!

I agree very odd for him not to mention the caddy alltrack with 7 seats, more powerful enjin, better looking, all for R375 k for an 2017 model
I live in the UK and I have no idea how I stumbled upon these videos but I'm glad I did, the host is hilarious.

Exactly, not enough car for the price. My old paid-for Touran 1.9TDi with 362000km is still a better deal..
Opel Combo Life is also a good shout, great engine and more affordable too!
Unfortunately Opel engines do not last and the dealership support doesn't come close.
It’s an Opel !!
Don’t buy PSA, their Diesel engines have an issue with the adBlue and the manufacturer is not fixing it. Google it.
I think they also know that manual will be reliable. Imagine a diesel with dsg plus turbo…nice one Ciro🙏🏾
In the UK DSG was pretty much all that was available. Interesting how the specification is different for different countries. Steering wheels are leather here.
Awesome option i was drive testing it yesterday.. it's awesone
600 000 manual, no leather seats, no sun blinder on the sunroof I rather go for Tiggo 8 pro
Ja this doesn’t make any sense. The Germans are very complacent, they’ll regret. Haval and Cherry are here with no jokes

Hi any idea why theres no rear windows that can open as theres no ventilation in the 3rd row
What I noticed is that when you fold the seats you don't get a flat surface to slide items through
Use the handles to remove and carry the seats. They are there for that specifically.

Nothing wrong with a manual, in fact more exciting than an automatic, and jah I'm still young 😁😁
Great review! Thank you!
Which other model uses the 2.0 TDi? @VWSA i just want a Golf TDi.
Ciro: It is a knob-free environment
Me: Let me get in there….say again Ciro
Tint all those windows pitch black, take out the seats and yeah its a 'knob' environment.
I noticed it has auto hold. How does auto hold work in a manual? Does it let you get off the clutch?
When you are in neutral standing at a robot, it'll hold the brake for you.
