Me too man, I still use her as inspiration quite a bit. But now with Iona, Roon, etc she's less special I guess. And I have a hard time recommending to buy her when Norm will work for most casual players

If you are looking for that final few percentage points in ship-commander performance. AL St Louis with Bayard. You can get up to 4 reload boost charges. AL Avrora with AL Chapayev ship. You sacrifice a bit of shell grouping but keep your fire chance.
Good review. Baltimore is a great inspiration commander, well worth the resources. Chapayev is one of the worst investments I've made in the game. Will probably get Dunkurque this round, I'm really disappointed that Atago didn't come back as I would have got her for sure.
Really appreciate you doing this Derka mate. As a relative noob, I have been confused in how to get the Azur Lane commanders, and what ones to get? Now it all makes sense and has lifted the mystery of these commanders for me. 👍👌
One's playstyle affects heavily on this ranking. And certain ships. For example, AL Chapayev + AL Chapayev is the most toxic combo. Low fire chance is a non-issue when you pen almost every shot with your HE and do heavy damage.
I would say AL Chapayev with AL Avrora is the most toxic one. You get +5% fire chance, +10% HE damage, fixated and Refill Station....Using Fournet and Mimbelli as well just tops it all out 😂.

Great video Derka. The thing with AL is that the refined free commanders many times can be equal or better. I bought some German AL only to use the free Mueller and Lutjens. Only Nelson and Dunkerque are useful now for me.
Was Lucky enough to pull the Siegfried from a Mega Santa crate and was wondering if any of the AL commanders are worth matching with it, or should I just stick with Mueller? @@DerkaGames
I agree with pretty much everything, except one or two things, but like you said, personal choices and apreciation. By the way if you see Demos videos you will see AL Shokaku is kinda Godtier for the IJN carriers.
I still run Littorio as my main for Italian battleships as a hybrid accuracy/survivability build and it works quite well. Roma is by far my most played ship and with 4 heals and roughly a 50 sec damage control party the Dreadnought medal is quite common with her. And the accuracy is good enough that most salvos are probably equal to a stock Iowa
I don’t disagree with the majority of these, but have had good luck with Neptune. Yukikaze is worth getting for the DD AA as an inspiration. Leveled up she turns Friesland and even Skane into an AA grinder and you go into battle looking for any carriers foolish enough to violate your space. Works great on Akizuki also, but I kept Kurita as commander. Oh yeah. I like her voice. The laugh is worth the price of admission.

AL Nelson, if u like the British superheal BBs she will get u pitchin a tent with that and those HE shots on yoloing dds Scharnhorst: Will quite literally never be used except for an inspiration because the dispersion base trait is 🤌 Dunkerque: pulled Dunky from a crate and am grinding up to Richelieu right now so felt she was worth it for that frontal fire skill Henry J Hide: No idea pulled him from an ultimate crate/Halloween crate I think, no idea what he does Seriously considering Azuma because it’s one of my favorite ships in the game currently, but I love Yamamoto on her tho so don’t know yet for her.
I went through the shop last night looking at these ladies to see if any I’m missing were worth it. I think you nailed this list perfect, can’t agree with your assessment at all.

1 big thing out of this list is AL Baltimore. I actually just tested her APsolute ammunition perk in training rooms with a friend. With the perk I got consistent Citadels against a Harbin and was also still able to pen and citadel an Iowa, downsides though is you will shatter much more often on the belt and have to aim more for under the turrets to get regular pens though at range you can hit the superstructure super hard for full pens instead of over pens. Without the perk I got many and I mean MANY over pens on the Harbin to where it took roughly 2x as many salvos to kill them and really didn't notice an increase to getting citadels on the Iowa, though I did get more full pens instead of nothing but shatters on the belt and managed only 1 cheeky citadel that I was unable to replicate through the belt. I did test at range and point blank for these results. From what I can tell it effects battleships a lot less than people think it does and really helps with light cruisers that think no armor is best armor
Interesting! Thanks for sharing. Harbin is likely the least armored cruiser at T7 so I can understand the overpens here. What range were you shooting at?
@@DerkaGames for the harbin I tested bow in at 12km for nothing but bounces with and without the perk and then broadside where both with and without I got citadels, and then we tested 5km which is where I got a ton of citadels with the perk and nothing but overpens without the perk. For the Iowa it was at 13 range and just straight broadside but wasn't able to get citadels until I got to 5km or closer with and without the perk
Disagree on the graf spee that 8% concealment means you can use that and take the 40% stearing gears aswell as having the usual concealment that extra manoeuvrability is great while maintaining the firepower perks.
Derka would you do one of these including all the collaboration, commanders. I appreciate that’s a lot of work but you could possibly do this in a few videos or as a World Cup Ko style knock out method. Eg Yamato (Arpeggio) v New Jersey (Azure Lane) or Victor F Einstein v Nachi. Explain their pros and cons declare a winner and why. Eventual you’ll get to a final for each ship type.
I think the only azur lane item I am going to purchase his the hipper camouflage. There's something about that bright red with all of those black iron crosses. ❤
Nice job with the list. I run Hood(16/3) on the Hood and it's fast for a Battleship. I'm looking to get Repulse and wondering what her top speed would be?
Okay don't quote me on this is off the top of my head. Her speed is essentially 32 knots base Guepratte 7% Hood 7% Fraser 3% Speed boost 8% x 3:00 minutes Flag 3% So 40.6 ish knots give or take a little with the speed boost running

You saved me a ton of cash. Derka, my fav ship is the French battleship, Champagne. Ever play it? It’s a fast moving sniper - and it loves making citadel shots. With your skill set I would image you would never lose a game
Interesting stuff. At least for my own playstyle, I've found that Montpelier works well for HE-spammers like Atlanta. No big disagreements to your assessments, although my own obsessive-compulsive leanings mean that I always try to match up AL commanders with the 'right" ship. Enough said. :) I note, you seem to have left out AL Atago, whom I have found to be an exceptionally effective IJN cruiser commander. Her central trait is lowering the range of torpedo detectabilty - extremely useful for various folks, I'm sure you'd agree. She also has a trait which significantly buffs HE - I've seen this absolutely SMASH other cruisers and DDs, and put a significant dent in BBs.
Atago can not be purchased. This list was based on the commanders that were available in the store. If you have Atago, you are one of the lucky few who got it, pre ban
While I've tried to make AL Hood work, I think Fisher has made her obsolete with the exception of a speed build. I'm curious to see where she falls in your next rankings.
As a Dedicated player of Azur Lane, I might be able to shed some light as to why Atago won't be back in the game, at least for a while. TO MY BELIEF (take this with a grain of salt, this is what I remember as it broke down), The Voice Actress (Who was Japanese) payed a visit to a Chinese Shrine that was dedicated as a memorial to those that died of Japanese War Crimes during WW2. While she didn't do anything bad there, Chinese Players were outraged, and the VA's lines for the game were cut from Atago. To this day I believe, Atago still has not been cast in Japanese again, hence why Atago has not shown up in Legends, to not credit the person that did the original voiceovers. We won't see Atago back, at least for a while, until someone new does the voice overs.
@@DerkaGames No worries!!! Yeah, it was big a while back. The same person also did voice lines for Azur Lane Graf Zeppelin. So it's unlikely will see AL Graf Zeppelin come to Legends any time soon, but things can change.
You get 5 every campaign with AB and now you can also get 1 more every week. Plus you can also buy a commander that is already Legendary 4 every other week to get a duplicate one compensation.
What counts the most is player skills try to upgrade that with blue commendations😂 I use the real commanders anyway not the fake ones in skimpy outfits.
Saint Louis is mediocre as a cruiser captain, when she came out the only french cruiser that i had was Carnot, so she was useless for me unitl i put her on a Kleber and found out that you can have 4 reload boosters and out gun every dd and some cruisers. The only downside is that you dont have Unstoppable, so you need a good management of the DCP or know when to pick a fight.
I agree with most of the list but Neptune is just better for all uk cl commander than belfast. AL Belfast is only better for the belfasts and a must have inspiration for smokescreen cruisers. Graf spee is also better than hipper after tier 7 since hipper dosn't get fully packed. Al QE and chapayev are just downgrades compared to the historical commanders. Baltimore is in my opinion just an alternative to scot with a special skill and better base trait and monpelier is for farming bb tears if you put vian on as an inspiration. Scharnhorst is a better cilliax for german bb but is worse for the battlecruisers. Hood is just as good as nelson she is made for AP focused ships like warspite vanguard the tier 3-5 tech tree uk bb and all tier 6 premium bb apart from nelson.
I don't get the fawning for New Jersey. She hits harder but less often which averages out imo to be less effective than Sims. Scharnhorst is an almost must have just for the inspiration stacking the dispersion buff for bbs most of which live and die on accuracy.
There is an issue with bb dispersion at the moment. Nj with +7 is more accurate than sims with +10 and scharnhorst inspiration seems to be causing dispersion to go full shotgun. NJ as a result is causing us bbs to fire lasers.
I'm just not convinced Scharnhorst inspo is strong enough. An American BB disperison ellipse at 12km is 180 meters. 4% of that (16/4 Scharnhorst) is 7.2 meters. So the dispersion ellipse shrinks to 172.8 meters with her inspiration. I dunno. Someone (not me gdi) needs to take the time in a training room, put on various accuracy inspos. And sit and shoot 25 salvos at an AI ship, and map the accuracy. Then we'll know for sure haha
@@DerkaGames I think you might be conflating dispersion and shell grouping but my point was that it stacks with Sims. With just New Jersey yeah, the shells can hit harder but less often which i think results in a lower overall chance to do damage. I've watched lots of CC brag up New Jersey but then I can't help but notice most of the have quietly gone back to Sims. You're right, we need a test. And now that we have training rooms we can test the crap out of it.

I'd say that AL Chapayev is b or c tier why? Her inspiration to knock out ship modules like engine or steering its be best suited for fast firing cruiser guns like Atlanta or Flint but is best on gunboat destroyers like russian Legendary tier destroyer known as Khaba and ships like Gnevny Minsk Leningrad and other ships like Fletcher Chung Mu Black Kidd Allen M Sumner from the Americans and maybe could work on french destroyers too it would help going against enemy destroyers in a gunnery duel
They really need to nerf Al Chapayev. This thing has the 30mm deck armour of Chappy and her good ballistics and accuracy and reload but with HE that does SAP damage. It dev strikes DDs but has a radar unlike British Light cruisers and Italian cruisers.. It is the most deadly DD hunter in the game and can protect its self well unlike Minotaur and can hurt angled DDs unlike Edinburgh and Amalfi. Completely ridiculous that they gave a ship that was well balanced SAP with no nerf to reload and no Saturation issues as well as ridiculous penetration. The HE does as much damage as SAP but with no chance to ricochet and can still cause fires.
I agree with you on pretty much all of these, AL Scharnhorst might be A tier just for the base trait but since there is Lachino now and Cilliax has been buffed so i get the C tier, i would add that St Louis is a fun BB commander on Bourgogne with the 4 MBRBs, not so much on JB with the accuracy... Littorio is still the biggest let down imo, i really like her design and voice but the skill tree is absolutly awfull and her personal perks aren't worth anything I would also add that any commander with a childish body goes right into F tier i absolutly despise the commenders, Avrora, QE or Neptune to name a few 🤮
Lololol fair enough on the F tier. Yeah people say ST Louis for BBs....but I feel like she's missing too many good BB skills for that, just to have buffed MBRB?
So who is more suited for the IJN cruiser line Yamamoto or Mikawa? I keep going back and forth and dont get that good of results. I'm assuming dpm is the way to go more but they are kinda sluggish so I'm stuck on who to run on them. I'm stuck on the Aoba too which im not a fan of really
I mostly stuck with Mikawa up the line focused on agility and staying alive. Aoba was a struggle for me as well, I've said for years t5 is the hardest tier to play a cruiser. Hang in there tho. Myoko is starts to get very interesting

I this video you claim that Scharnhorst as an inspiration is not very useful and you'd prefer double grouping inspiration, but you use Scharnhorst as inspiration though with multiple commanders, i.e. Nelson. Why?
I think you higly underestimate saint Luis as a build for Jean Bart and Strasburg , not as good as Dunkerque but more than decent if you Ask me, also neptune Is much Better than that, some British focused cruisers like Belfast and Tiger 59 are DD Hunters wich the extra damage Will help a lot, and the ones that can shoot HE shells Will deal damage to battleships mostly with fires rather than alpha damage,its inspiration Is useful and you could find some interesting ideas for battleships
Looked into Saint L as a French BB commander, doesn't work in my eyes. Stuck with beyond range, and before it's too late in slots 1 and 2....leaving too many good BB skills on the board all to have more slightly stronger MBRBs

Nice job with the list. I run Hood(16/3) on the Hood and it's fast for a Battleship. I'm looking to get Repulse and wondering what her top speed would be?
Okay don't quote me on this is off the top of my head. Her speed is essentially 32 knots base

Speed boost 8% x 3:00 minutes
Flag 3%
So 40.6 ish knots give or take a little with the speed boost running

Great video, thanks! I'm running Al Nelson on Warspite, with Cunningham as the 1st inspiration, but lacking Al Scharnhorst as the 2nd. For that spot, who would you recommend? Im thinking of Jaujard or Di Revel, with other candidates like Ciliax, Takagi and Madden. Thanks again!
Warspite is very accurate as is (2.0 sigma) so personally I'd probably run Di Revel to buff the reload.

Derka, my fav ship is the French battleship, Champagne. Ever play it? It’s a fast moving sniper - and it loves making citadel shots. With your skill set I would image you would never lose a game

Interesting stuff. At least for my own playstyle, I've found that Montpelier works well for HE-spammers like Atlanta. No big disagreements to your assessments, although my own obsessive-compulsive leanings mean that I always try to match up AL commanders with the 'right" ship. Enough said. :)
I note, you seem to have left out AL Atago, whom I have found to be an exceptionally effective IJN cruiser commander. Her central trait is lowering the range of torpedo detectabilty - extremely useful for various folks, I'm sure you'd agree. She also has a trait which significantly buffs HE - I've seen this absolutely SMASH other cruisers and DDs, and put a significant dent in BBs.
Atago can not be purchased. This list was based on the commanders that were available in the store.

As a Dedicated player of Azur Lane, I might be able to shed some light as to why Atago won't be back in the game, at least for a while.
TO MY BELIEF (take this with a grain of salt, this is what I remember as it broke down), The Voice Actress (Who was Japanese) payed a visit to a Chinese Shrine that was dedicated as a memorial to those that died of Japanese War Crimes during WW2. While she didn't do anything bad there, Chinese Players were outraged, and the VA's lines for the game were cut from Atago. To this day I believe, Atago still has not been cast in Japanese again, hence why Atago has not shown up in Legends, to not credit the person that did the original voiceovers. We won't see Atago back, at least for a while, until someone new does the voice overs.

@@DerkaGames No worries!!! Yeah, it was big a while back. The same person also did voice lines for Azur Lane Graf Zeppelin. So it's unlikely will see AL Graf Zeppelin come to Legends any time soon, but things can change.

Ultimately I think it depends on what works with your still of play. Of the AL commanders I have I've found none match my play style.
Roon is an amazing inspiration on Russian CLs. Other than that the only ship I use her on is Agir, and for that she is great.
All those commanders take a long time to upgrade since you can only upgrade them with the blue commendation
You get 5 every campaign with AB and now you can also get 1 more every week. Plus you can also buy a commander that is already Legendary 4 every other week to get a duplicate one compensation.
It's true i don't have a single event commander at 16/4
What counts the most is player skills try to upgrade that with blue commendations😂 I use the real commanders anyway not the fake ones in skimpy outfits.
Saint Louis is mediocre as a cruiser captain, when she came out the only french cruiser that i had was Carnot, so she was useless for me unitl i put her on a Kleber and found out that you can have 4 reload boosters and out gun every dd and some cruisers. The only downside is that you dont have Unstoppable, so you need a good management of the DCP or know when to pick a fight.
Did you leave out Atago because she is not available? Do you consider her S tier?

I play Shokaku a lot. Her special skill is not worth it with standard mediocre planes hp. Easier to escape thanks to her base trait.
I agree with most of the list but Neptune is just better for all uk cl commander than belfast. AL Belfast is only better for the belfasts and a must have inspiration for smokescreen cruisers. Graf spee is also better than hipper after tier 7 since hipper dosn't get fully packed. Al QE and chapayev are just downgrades compared to the historical commanders. Baltimore is in my opinion just an alternative to scot with a special skill and better base trait and monpelier is for farming bb tears if you put vian on as an inspiration. Scharnhorst is a better cilliax for german bb but is worse for the battlecruisers. Hood is just as good as nelson she is made for AP focused ships like warspite vanguard the tier 3-5 tech tree uk bb and all tier 6 premium bb apart from nelson.

I don't get the fawning for New Jersey. She hits harder but less often which averages out imo to be less effective than Sims. Scharnhorst is an almost must have just for the inspiration stacking the dispersion buff for bbs most of which live and die on accuracy.
There is an issue with bb dispersion at the moment. Nj with +7 is more accurate than sims with +10 and scharnhorst inspiration seems to be causing dispersion to go full shotgun. NJ as a result is causing us bbs to fire lasers.

An American BB disperison ellipse at 12km is 180 meters. 4% of that (16/4 Scharnhorst) is 7.2 meters. So the dispersion ellipse shrinks to 172.8 meters with her inspiration. I dunno. Someone (not me gdi) needs to take the time in a training room, put on various accuracy inspos. And sit and shoot 25 salvos at an AI ship, and map the accuracy. Then we'll know for sure haha

I think you might be conflating dispersion and shell grouping but my point was that it stacks with Sims. With just New Jersey yeah, the shells can hit harder but less often which i think results in a lower overall chance to do damage.
I've watched lots of CC brag up New Jersey but then I can't help but notice most of the have quietly gone back to Sims.

Her inspiration to knock out ship modules like engine or steering its be best suited for fast firing cruiser guns like Atlanta or Flint but is best on gunboat destroyers like russian Legendary tier destroyer known as Khaba and ships like Gnevny Minsk Leningrad and other ships like Fletcher Chung Mu Black Kidd Allen M Sumner from the Americans and maybe could work on french destroyers too it would help going against enemy destroyers in a gunnery duel

They really need to nerf Al Chapayev. This thing has the 30mm deck armour of Chappy and her good ballistics and accuracy and reload but with HE that does SAP damage. It dev strikes DDs but has a radar unlike British Light cruisers and Italian cruisers.. It is the most deadly DD hunter in the game and can protect its self well unlike Minotaur and can hurt angled DDs unlike Edinburgh and Amalfi. Completely ridiculous that they gave a ship that was well balanced SAP with no nerf to reload and no Saturation issues as well as ridiculous penetration. The HE does as much damage as SAP but with no chance to ricochet and can still cause fires.
I'm surprised they put her back in the shop 😳 it's the number 1 performing (damage) cruiser at the tier last I heard

I agree with you on pretty much all of these, AL Scharnhorst might be A tier just for the base trait but since there is Lachino now and Cilliax has been buffed so i get the C tier, i would add that St Louis is a fun BB commander on Bourgogne with the 4 MBRBs, not so much on JB with the accuracy...
Littorio is still the biggest let down imo, i really like her design and voice but the skill tree is absolutly awfull and her personal perks aren't worth anything
I would also add that any commander with a childish body goes right into F tier i absolutly despise the commenders, Avrora, QE or Neptune to name a few 🤮

So who is more suited for the IJN cruiser line Yamamoto or Mikawa? I keep going back and forth and dont get that good of results. I'm assuming dpm is the way to go more but they are kinda sluggish so I'm stuck on who to run on them. I'm stuck on the Aoba too which im not a fan of really
I mostly stuck with Mikawa up the line focused on agility and staying alive. Aoba was a struggle for me as well, I've said for years t5 is the hardest tier to play a cruiser. Hang in there tho. Myoko is starts to get very interesting

I think you higly underestimate saint Luis as a build for Jean Bart and Strasburg , not as good as Dunkerque but more than decent if you Ask me, also neptune Is much Better than that, some British focused cruisers like Belfast and Tiger 59 are DD Hunters wich the extra damage Will help a lot, and the ones that can shoot HE shells Will deal damage to battleships mostly with fires rather than alpha damage,its inspiration Is useful and you could find some interesting ideas for battleships
Looked into Saint L as a French BB commander, doesn't work in my eyes. Stuck with beyond range, and before it's too late in slots 1 and 2....leaving too many good BB skills on the board all to have more slightly stronger MBRBs
