A lot of people think that too. I’ve found that it causes a lot of drag behind the boat and makes it harder to paddle and stay on track. The weights can also get caught on things and get stuck or break.
Josh, the kayak is going to be more stable than the canoe. Don't give up on it yet! That rudder system is sick and you will miss not having it. That blind is very adjustable/customizable. I would recommend getting Bimini Top anchor parts to get it secured where you want/need it. That will eliminate those Frankenstein L brackets. If you really want to spend some money just get the 4 or 6" GearTrac. can't wait to see you fix the QuakYak up right.
So I just bought the northern flight kayak blind and was curious how did you attach the grass so it doesn't fall off ? I'm giing to add some raffia grass that I want to keep on permanent and the once at hunting location throw on some natural grass...
When you are paddling any distance with the layout blind installed, is your lower back supported? Has this created any comfort or powerstroke problems for you? I share your passion for waterfowl hunting. Ever make it up to Northern Ontario?
When your store, transport, or even just sit the canoe down, rest it on its gunwales, not its hull. If you need more room, ditch the fairly useless 119 and get a 158 and at that point, you may as well just opt for the 169...
Hey Josh - question for ya. I just ordered the same canoe + layout. If you pull the stock seat from the duckscovery + pull the seat out of the blind - would it be possible to drill 4 holes and relocate the stock old town seat forward enough to lay properly? The seat clearly has to come out to get the frame of the blind in, but once in could the seat theoretically go back in if you removed the blind's cloth seat?
Do what I do, decoys float, get a rubberized reusable tie wrap from any hardware store, wrap the decoy lines together so they're like one line, and attach them to the back of the canoe and drag them behind while your paddling. Much easier and less crap inside with you. Heres the ties I use, I get the hi-viz ones. images.app.goo.gl/D4R8mwLhYLZWfbgVA
Could you just basically tow the decoys behind?

Josh your enthusiasm is infectious bro , having fun really makes work a pleasure
I use 2 kayaks, one for me, and one ties off to my yak full of all my stuff. Decoys, blind bag, gun, and the all essential probable grill👌
use a shappel jet sled it’s much easier
Can’t wait for duck season!!
That looks awesome maybe put a piece of foam insulation under your seat to keep you up out of any water in the boat
Now that does look better for the blind fitting .
That looks awesome Josh, may need to get a couple of those for our crew
You can always pull the decoys behind you while you’re paddling in if you want to run more🤘🏻
I'm thinking stability won't be as good in the canoe? Test it out, let us know!
Thanks for the awesome videos!! I have an h12 and just bought the redhead blind. The set up looks great and easy to use.
Jim Keithley I just bought an h12. Saving for the blind. Taking her out for the first real adventure this morning.
Looks pretty good.
Just ordered a 119 discovery, what brand of layout blind did you put on yours? Looks really good
Use a sled to haul more decoys i can tow about 3 doz in a standard jet sled
Hella dope boat
Rest in peace quack yack
Tried buying the Redhead blind for my H12 and Basspro told me they won't have them available until August 😠😠

How are you going to paddle with the blind on it? You took out the seat and now sit lower by the looks of it.

Dont see why that wouldnt work. I prefer the layout seat though
Who makes the blind that you are now using on the old town discovery? Is it available somewhere? Thanks
Do you like using a canoe better? Trying to decide what I will be getting
Looks bomber!

Awesome setup! How is the stability of the Duckscovery when shooting?
What amo do you use for duck season
What blind is this exactly?
Nice... looks really low profile... the canoe is the juice bro
Purchase a small jet sled and tow it behind your kayak.
What color raffia grass is that, is it tan?
Can I buy this blind from you? 😂 I can’t find it anywhere hahah
Nut
How long is your canoe
What blind is this ?
I’ve been searching for a canoe blind but this one looks great
