Thanks. I guess I could've been a little more clear on the installation options, but I'm glad you figured it out before going through all that trouble :-)

I've been trying to paste the ID many times (using plugins on WP) but it kept saying"Please ensure your Google Account is signed up for Google Analytics.". Excellent resource. Thank you very much. Following your very clear instructions, I managed to install analytics on my two websites within a short space of time. Very much appreciated!
Hi! Thanks for sharing a so helpful and good quality information. Your English pronunciation is perfect, I'm not an English native speaker and I understood you clearly. I think Google should use you tutorial as a standard for how tutorials should be made. Cheers!
Great video, really helped! I had trouble with 12:29... I looked in my website maker (XPRS Editor) and i looked everywhere for what you talked about. I only found a part where you copy and paste a HTML code, or Header Code. Would i copy-and-paste that Website Tracking script into the HTML part?
I'm not familiar with XPRS Editor, but if you see a place where you can paste an "HTML code" or "Header Code," that is likely the correct place to paste your analytics tracking script. After you've pasted it and published it to the site, navigate to your homepage, go to the "View" menu in your browser, and "View Source Code." Then look for the analytics script. If it's there, and it's between the opening and closing , then you're all set.
I just checked your site. The code you see under is correct. That's the most up to date version of Google Analytics. You want to keep that. But there are two other forms of Google Analytics tracking on your site. You should remove one of them, otherwise, your reports will show double the amount of traffic. It'll get reported twice. I've made a screenshot to explain things here: www.dropbox.com/s/fmvqe3t4gxrzwab/burlywoodworks-ga-code.png?dl=0 My guess is that you (or someone) implemented Google Analytics this way: support.imxprs.com/hc/en-us/articles/202742381-Adding-Google-Analytics-to-your-website, and that's what's causing the older version of GA to show up. Delete your tracking ID from this spot, and just keep the User Head Code in place. I'm guessing the 3rd instance of GA tracking is put in place by the XRPS team, and it feeds into their account, so that one is fine. I don't think you could remove it even if you wanted to. But their support could confirm that.
Thanks so much for this. I have been struggling to find a tutorial on adding the analytics code to a personalised website and not wordpress - just to confirm that what I think was in fact correct! Appreciate this. :)
Glad you got it working, Manny. And I appreciate the kind words. I make these videos with the purpose of helping people, so it is my pleasure to respond :-)
Sorry to bother you again. Once I finished adding Analytics, I accessed my website using Iphone couple times then I open the analytics page but showing no visits at all (showing Users 0, Session 0, Bounce Rate 0, Session Duration 0). Does it supposed to show at least 1 visit? Above All Web Site Data showing my domain name (logomoshirt.com that I'm building now). Did I miss anything here? I have previous website that tried to add analytics (and removed YOAST) but there's some problem with that account which using another gmail address (my new website I use domain name "logomoshirt" and created new account with new gmail address as your suggestion. Thanks in advance.
Adding Google Analytics to your website is very important. Not only does it allow you to track the statistics but it also tells Google more about your site. Since they are actively tracking it, their bots will be better able to find your content and index your pages. Of course, it is also important for you to verify ownership of your site and submit your pages through the developer's console. Doing all of these things together will really help boost your SEO.
So, on UA-cam under the Advanced settings, there is a section called "Google Analytics property tracking ID" where would you put this on your Google Analytics account? and which tracking code do you use?
Great question, Eric! The field is there to allow you to use Google Analytics to gather extra data on your UA-cam channel (data that you can't get from UA-cam Analytics). You would first create a NEW PROPERTY in Google Analytics. The reason you should create a new property is because I would recommend treating your UA-cam Channel almost as if it were a different website (or property). You might get confused if you mix data/pages from your website with pages from your UA-cam Channel as well. Then take that new property ID that you just created, and plug it into the box in the UA-cam Advanced Settings. Give me a shout if you have any further questions.
So I should NOT "Create New Account" for the UA-cam channel under Google Analytics. I should "Create New Property" under the same website account that owns thaat UA-cam channel?
WP Smackdown Thanks so much for the Screenshot. It was very helpful and thanks for taking time out of your day. I just Subscribed and Followed you on Google+. Also I👍 this video on UA-cam and +1 on Google+.
Thank you so much for this video tutorial. Your presentation was succinct and your calming tone was helpful to me, a new blogger, who is just learning the tricks of the trade. Thanks!
Very informative and straight to the point. Thank you. The only question I have is that if I have a custom website with many pages, do I have to include the script in each pages header?
I recommend you create a single file that contains the script. And then include that file in the header of every page. How to include files will depend on what type of coding language you're using.
I am a little confused about Tag Manager. Best practice seems to suggest using this would this be another step replacing WP Plug in? Really helpful video!
Joseph -- For those who are more tech savvy and/or want to customize Google Analytics, I recommend Tag Manager as the best way to implement it. I made a separate video on how to add Google Analytics using Tag Manager: ua-cam.com/video/stx-54orPg0/v-deo.html For those who are not as tech savvy, or just need a very basic implementation of Google Analytics, I'd recommend the WordPress plugin. Does that help?
Hello there, I love this video. By the way, I was wondering I also downloaded the Insert Headers and Footers plugin. After I downloaded a Google Analytics plugin, if inserted the tracking code from Google Analytics into the Header would that help or hinder your Google Analytics tracking?
Hi Jack -- If you're using a Google Analytics plugin, you DO NOT want to insert the tracking code in the Headers/Footers plugin. That will put the code on your site twice, which will most likely result in traffic being counted twice. Just use ONE OR THE OTHER method.
Thanks! Great video. The only part I'm confused about is the last section around 11:59. The web tracking code, do you need to enter this into your site if you are using wordpress, or does the google analytics by monster address that as well. If you do need to enter the web tracking code, I've not been able to figure out where/how to do this. Thank you in advance!
Hey. If you're using the Google Analytics by MonsterInsights plugin, you WON'T need to add the tracking script to your website's code. So you can ignore the stuff from the 11:59 mark to the end. Just make sure that after you activate the GA for MonsterInsights plugin, you authenticate with your Google account, and choose a profile from your Analytics account. I outline how to do this at the 6:55 mark. Please let me know if you have further questions.
Hei! thank you for the tutorial! My question is: can i use the MonsterInsights plugin also for non-wordpress website? or just for wordpress? cause it really seems complicated otherwise@! thank u!
Sorry, but the MonsterInsights plugin is only for WordPress. If you have a specific question about getting it setup on your site, let me know and I'll try to help.
Thanks for the video! If I am setting this up for a personal website (not working for an organisation) should I put the name of the project or my name under "account name."
you should do some more in depth presentations illustrating the various utilities of google analytics. though i'm fluent in HTML/CSS/JS and have been messing around with these languages for a while as a hobby, i'm completely new to google analytics. i figure this is something i need to know now that i'm getting paid, but don't know where to look to start learning... any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Great suggestion! This is actually something that I have been planning to do. It might be another month or two before I get a few videos up, but as I create some reports and begin analyzing my own sites traffic in more detail, I will share that here on my channel. If you haven't already, you might want to subscribe to my channel so you're notified when I release new videos. Thanks for your support :-)
Hey man nice video! quick question, if I install the javascript code onto a website for tracking data, do I need to put this onto multiple pages on the website or does placing it once above the '' of the website track every page of the website? thanks man
That would just track the one page. It needs to go on every page on which you want to collect data. Most people would use some type of include file or global. This differs depending on which coding language your website is built with.
@@escapecreative-io Thanks for the reply man, that's helped a lot! Just need to find my way around this now. I'm guessing you'd need to make separate 'properties' for each one of these pages you want to track?
Hey WP Smackdown, this is a great video...really useful. I downloaded the plugin "Headers and Footers", where I in turn pasted my Tracking Code snippet. Do you think that this is enough or do you ave to locate the header.php folder. If so could you tell me how you find the folder from the WordPress 2017 dashbard. Thank you
Hi Jack -- Pasting your tracking code in the Headers area of the Headers and Footers plugin is all you need to do. This is a good method for implementing Analytics. You do NOT need to do anything with your header.php file. Great question.
Thank you for the video! Quick question though - I saw similar videos a few years ago saying that you could use your own email address (not gmail) to use Google Analytics. Is this still true or do you specifically need to sign up for a new gmail account? Thanks in advance :)
Hi Karen -- I'm pretty sure you have to use a Google account now. Google changed this several years ago, and have been enforcing it ever since. So you could either sign up for a free gmail account, or purchase their G Suite and use your own domain for your email. Either one will work, but I'm pretty sure no outside email accounts will work.
Hi Shelley -- If you're on Bluehost, try these two help articles. First, create an FTP account (if you don't already have one). And then download Filezilla, and follow the instructions for setting it up with your Bluehost website. 1. Creating FTP accounts my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/ftpaccounts 2. Setup using Filezilla my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/264 Let me know if that helps.
Hi, in the past I thought I installed google analytics to my site. Only to see that it has not been tracking anything. So I installed the monster insights exactly how you did. If I have the plugin do I still need to insatll the tracking code provided by google ? Can they work together or is the plugin on its own good enough?
Hi Tabitha - You only want to do one or the other, not both. If you do both, all the data in your account will be doubled. The monster insights plugin should ask you to authenticate with your Google account. Once you do that, the plugin will insert the tracking script for you. Can you see data in your account now?
Your video is well informed. I have a problem maybe you can help? When clicking on the sign up to get my analyics code for my business website it takes me to a blank page. Any ideas why this is happening? TIA
Anita -- It's hard to say without seeing exactly what you're seeing. Is there a URL to the page that's showing a blank screen? Also, can you upload a screenshot of the page that works (right before it goes to a blank screen)?
Is it possible to create a google analytics for a clients website, if you are not the owner? Or do you need to use their gmail address that is connected to their website?
I *recommend* you use the client's gmail account, not yours. I like my client to officially own the data in their account, but I ask them to provide full admin access to my gmail account. (go to Admin > User Management) You could technically setup Google Analytics for your client using your own gmail account, but... 1. If you no longer work with them, it's a pain in the butt for YOU to have THEIR data in your account. 2. There are account & property limits, so one account can only create so many GA tracking codes. If you have over 100 clients, you will hit the limit. 3. Because GA gives you the ability to provide full access to other accounts, I don't see any reason why YOU need to own it. I hope that helps. Gimme a holler if you have any further questions.
Thank you, If I’m tracking 3 different websites in analytics, is there a way to track all at the same time on the same “overview” page without switching back and forth between accounts? Thanks again
Not within Google Analytics, no. But Google Data Studio was designed for what you're describing. You can combine multiple accounts, as well as analytics from other places, into one report.
hi thanks for the video,is really informative !! want to clarify something,if i using wordpress do i need to copy this scrip in the section 12:14 of the video?
Hi S P -- Thanks! If you're using WordPress, I recommend you use a plugin that will add the Google Analytics script for you, so you don't have to do it manually. Choose either one of these two plugins. They are both excellent options: - Google Analytics Dashboard for WP wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-dashboard-for-wp/ - Google Analytics by MonsterInsights wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/
Do you mean a native mobile app you can download in the App Store or Google Play? You need to create a separate property for that and use the SDK to insert the tracking code. If you just mean someone viewing a responsive website from their mobile phone, you don't need to do anything extra. The instructions here cover all types of website visitors.
If you go to Appearance > Editor, then locate the header.php of your theme, you could paste your Google Analytics script there. Just keep in mind... 1. If you switch themes, make sure you add the code into your new theme. 2. If your theme releases an update, and makes changes to the header.php file, installing that update will erase your Google Analytics script. You should use a child theme and place the script in the header.php of a child theme.
please wp smackdown, id like to clarify something. are these two different methods to implement ga tracking code onto my website? or is this one method which requires both steps. thank you.
These are two different methods. You would use one or the other, not both. Either use the MonsterInsights plugin (for WordPress sites only), OR use the custom implementation that starts at 10:45. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Hey whats up man, thank you for the video, I have a question if you could help I have wordpress online shop and I installed WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration plugin, I am not very satisfied with the current plugin but it gives me more info about my product, and I am not sure if I should or if it does improve anything if I installed the monstersight plugin. what do you think should I do and can install both plugin in the same wordpress site ?
Hey. Thanks for the feedback. First off, I would NOT install two Google Analytics plugins (or ecommerce tracking plugins) on the same site. That usually results in data being reported twice, and it will mess up your reporting. So don't do that. As for MonsterInsights vs. the WooCommerce GA Integration plugin you currently have installed, unfortunately, I can't say. I don't have a site where I'm using ecommerce tracking right now, so I don't know if MonsterInsights will give you more data. Also, it's important to mention that you'll need the Pro version of MonsterInsights in order to use their ecommerce tracking. Pro version costs $199. wpsmackdown.com/out/monsterinsights/ (this is an affiliate link, so if you end up buying it with my link, I receive a small commission). You could reach out to MonsterInsights support team and ask them how their plugin differs from the one you're currently using. They might be able to tell you whether or not they can provide more data. Best of luck, and holler back with any additional questions... or just to let me know what you ended up doing.
WP Smackdown, hey, it’s not your fault that I’m just knocking this out. I should’ve had the courage to embrace my dreams much sooner. Either way, thank you for sending me a response.
My question: I have 5 subdomains for my website and one master website. 1. Do you have any step by step for the subdomains? 2. Do we need to enter tracking codes in the subdomains for GA to work? Thanks for the support in advance.
You'll need GA tracking code on all 5, but there are two ways you can approach it. 1. You can place a different code on each site. It'll be like you have 5 separate sites that you're tracking. 2. You can place the same code on all 5, and enable cross-domain tracking. I don't have specifics on cross-domain tracking, but if you Google it, you should find plenty of info on how to set it up.
Thank you for making it so easy. I really appreciate it. Just curious. You wouldn't have an easy way to set up a category that has the parent name as the category. I do it in a lot of steps and then when I figure it out I forget how I got there in the first place. And searching for a how to do that.drives me even crazier. Thanks again for the video. I subscribed and I will check out your other videos.
You're welcome. Glad it helped. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "set up a category that has the parent name as the category." Are you referring to post categories in WordPress?
Silly Me. Yes in word press. I am setting Catagories on my menu. But I am having a hard time get the Category when adding it to the Menu in the Parent it comes up None or the categories that are on the menu or my favorite to hate. Uncategorized. I don't know if I am to make the category 1st and then add to the menu or add to the menu as a category and then add to the category. I feel like I am swimming and I don't know which way is up.
I'm starting to catch on, but I still don't have a full grasp of what you're trying to do. Could you take a screenshot of what's going on, upload it to the could somewhere, and link it here? If you're trying to create a menu that has your categories in it, you'll want to create the categories first. After that, then go to Appearance > Menus, and add the categories to the menu. The final step would be to add the menu to your site somewhere (this differs by theme).
You should consult a lawyer. While I am definitely not a lawyer, the answer is almost certainly, yes. It depends on how you use Google Analytics, how you set it up, etc., where you live, and where your visitors live... these are the things that will determine what type of policy you need to include.
This help me so much but I'm not good at English :( I'm confused about WP Monster Insight Plug-in. Can you pls tell me if I wrongly understand? My understanding is WP MonsterInsight Plug in it will help me to paste the tracking code to my personalised website instead I directly paste it via my website which it's so technically that's too hard for non-IT person like me, is this right? Thank you so much for your helpful video!!! Arty.
You are understanding correctly, Chitpol. For non-IT people, the MonsterInsights plugin is one of the easiest ways to install the Analytics tracking code without needing to touch any of your website's code. If you are not very technical, I would recommend using the plugin.
Hi, once I downloaded the monsterinsights, do I still need to do the next step where you copied the code to the theme? Plus, how long it will show up on google analytics? I have activated monsterinsight and google analytics is still showing "right now 0 active user on site"
Hi Jeremy -- No, if you're using the monsterinsights plugin, you do not need to copy the code to your theme. The plugin will do that for you. In order to test that it's working, and get data to show up in analytic's real time data, log out of WordPress and visit your site in a private browsing window.
thisistap.com/ will let you create a free site for up to 30 days, but you are limited to using their subdomain: yoursite.thisistap.com. But if the domain doesn't matter, I'd definitely go with them. They are the only free WordPress host I can recommend at this time.
on sites that were built well over a decade ago, which consists of a number of various independent pages (i.e. index.htm, about.htm, contact.htm, etc), do i need to place the tracking script in each of these documents??
Yes, unfortunately, you do. For older websites that have a bunch of static, custom HTML pages, the only way to gather analytics data on ALL of them... is to place the Google Analytics script on all of them. -- Sorry, I wish there was an easier way, but I'm not aware of one.
hm... yeah, that's what i imagined, but i just wanted to be sure. thanks! so the script obviously has a way of distinguishing all of the pages from one another eh
One of the many things the script does, on a very basic level, is grabs the URL of the page someone is on. And the script runs every time a new page is loaded. That's why the script needs to be on all pages. Modern CMS platforms, like WordPress, have one file (or plugin) that inserts the script on every page, but hand-built websites that use individual html files, unfortunately have to add the code to every page by hand.
thanks for the info. it's def an unusual looking script. prolly cuz of all the arguments and the fact that it's minified. i see it creates a time stamp also. but what the hell is this line of code do: (window,document,'script','www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga') does that reference an external script or something?>
I believe that is what actually writes the element on the page. But then yes, that script element references the JavaScript code that makes Google Analytics work. All the magic is stored in the analytics.js file hosted on google-analytics.com. If you want a closer look... - go to www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js - copy the minified code - go to unminify.com and paste the code Then you can analyze exactly what it's doing :-)
Just to make sure: So I have wordpress and I completed the process up to 10:43 That means I don't have to do anything else right? Adsense is now in cahoots with my site? Or do I have to continue with the adding tracking script to my theme?..
Correct. Since you're using a plugin to add Google Analytics to your site, you DO NOT need to do anything else or add any tracking script to your theme. The plugin automatically does that for you.
I am glad I read the comments below :) At first I thought I had to install all the code even after adding the plug-in. I thought to myself, well that is pointless to have a plug-in and have to add all the coding. Glad to hear that the plug-in takes care of it all. Thanks for you video. It was very easy to follow. Appreciate the feedback, Brian.
This was such a good video, I particularly liked how the captions were large and you could also easily read while listening
Thanks for the feedback, Sarah!
Thank you very much for the help! Clear and easy to understand.

Perfectly explained. Thanks for this. Very helpful indeed. Using a plugin for Google Analytics makes it super easy to install. Thanks, Phil
Top class tutorial and very straightforward and easy to listen to. Thanks very much.
Thks, 4 Ur help, Excellent video tutorial!!!!
Really accurate information. Helped me big time. Cheers!!
Excellent resource. Thank you very much. Following your very clear instructions, I managed to install analytics on my two websites within a short space of time. Very much appreciated!
So glad to hear. Congrats! And let me know if you have any questions about the data once you start looking around.

Wow. Really kind words, Ronald. Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad I could help you out :-)
Thanks for the information I managed to install analytics with the help of this video.

I just checked your site. The code you see under is correct. That's the most up to date version of Google Analytics. You want to keep that.

My guess is that you (or someone) implemented Google Analytics this way: support.imxprs.com/hc/en-us/articles/202742381-Adding-Google-Analytics-to-your-website, and that's what's causing the older version of GA to show up. Brilliant video, I was really struggling with this and you explained it perfectly. Thank you.
THank you for this! Super clear and concise
Excellent presentation. Thanks for the tips!
You're welcome, Stanley.
well explained! clear voice. Nice, thumbs up
Thanks Jason!
Holy crap it's SO complex trying to run a small business these days! And get a few sales.
Thank you for walking me through the process.
Very useful video. Well worth a watch if you are new to Google Analytics.
I went back and signed up again and it works, thanks anyway :)

Thank you very much, it's clear and correct. The video helped me a lot
Set the playback speed to 1.25.Thank me later.

Thank you so much, you made it easy to follow, i thought this would be hard :)
Thanks for the tutorial
Perfect instructions. Thank you.
Thank you WP Smackdown, very helpful!
Correct! See this screenshot for a visual.

WP Smackdown Thanks so much for the Screenshot. It was very helpful and thanks for taking time out of your day. I just Subscribed and Followed you on Google+. Also I👍 this video on UA-cam and +1 on Google+.
Thanks Eric! Much appreciated. And you can call me Dave :-)
Thank you so much for this video tutorial. Your presentation was succinct and your calming tone was helpful to me, a new blogger, who is just learning the tricks of the trade. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful, Carolee. And thank you for the feedback.
Excellent video, very instructional, thanks!
Very informative and straight to the point. Thank you. The only question I have is that if I have a custom website with many pages, do I have to include the script in each pages header?
I recommend you create a single file that contains the script. And then include that file in the header of every page.
How to include files will depend on what type of coding language you're using.
Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for.
You're welcome. Glad you found it helpful.
Thanks for sharing this video with all of us
I am a little confused about Tag Manager. Best practice seems to suggest using this would this be another step replacing WP Plug in? Really helpful video!
Joseph -- For those who are more tech savvy and/or want to customize Google Analytics, I recommend Tag Manager as the best way to implement it. I made a separate video on how to add Google Analytics using Tag Manager: ua-cam.com/video/stx-54orPg0/v-deo.html
For those who are not as tech savvy, or just need a very basic implementation of Google Analytics, I'd recommend the WordPress plugin.
Does that help?
Fantastic thanks for the link I'll check out the other video.
Dave, If I start simple - with a WP Plug in can I incorporate Tag Manager later? There is nothing installed on the site at the moment.
Sure. You can always deactivate the plugin and install it via Tag Manager at another time.
Thank you for your prompt and helpful responses, really appreciate it.
Thanks for the video! Really helped me out.
Great video, thanks
Hello there, I love this video. By the way, I was wondering I also downloaded the Insert Headers and Footers plugin. After I downloaded a Google Analytics plugin, if inserted the tracking code from Google Analytics into the Header would that help or hinder your Google Analytics tracking?
Hi Jack -- If you're using a Google Analytics plugin, you DO NOT want to insert the tracking code in the Headers/Footers plugin. That will put the code on your site twice, which will most likely result in traffic being counted twice. Just use ONE OR THE OTHER method.
Great video, thanks for the info!
Great video! You were very descriptive until the end over all okay video.
Thanks for your best tutorial
This was super helpful!
Thank you
Awesome! Thank you! It's working now!
Thank you! Analytics wouldn't work when I added it to the top of the section as "required". I added it above the and it worked instantly! perfectly!
See arrow at 13:25 in the video if your using wordpress
The crude method of pasting into the header worked for me. Thanks, I was getting nowhere with plugins.
Glad that worked. If you ever change your theme, just remember to add it back in.
Thanks for the video! If I am setting this up for a personal website (not working for an organisation) should I put the name of the project or my name under "account name."
For "Account Name," I'd probably use my name. Then, each "Property" would be the name of your projects.
cheers for the speedy reply!
you should do some more in depth presentations illustrating the various utilities of google analytics. though i'm fluent in HTML/CSS/JS and have been messing around with these languages for a while as a hobby, i'm completely new to google analytics. i figure this is something i need to know now that i'm getting paid, but don't know where to look to start learning... any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks for your support :-)
cool. will do. can't wait :)
No. Property = Website
The same code is used for all pages on a website.
@@escapecreative-io Ah, makes sense now man, thank you! Thanks for the replies.
Awesome instructions
Thank you for the video! Quick question though - I saw similar videos a few years ago saying that you could use your own email address (not gmail) to use Google Analytics. Is this still true or do you specifically need to sign up for a new gmail account?
Thanks in advance :)
Hi Karen -- I'm pretty sure you have to use a Google account now. Google changed this several years ago, and have been enforcing it ever since. So you could either sign up for a free gmail account, or purchase their G Suite and use your own domain for your email. Either one will work, but I'm pretty sure no outside email accounts will work.
Ah thank you! I thought that was the case, thank you for confirming.
I subscribed.. Great video learned a lot.
Thanks for the tutorial.
You're welcome, Joseph.
Good evening ,
Congratulations to your guide, if I want to put it on all the pages of my eshop do I put it in the header on everything?
Yes
Not sure about how to upload the file to the ftp (I use bluehost). Is there another video you can point me to? Thanks for this video!
Hi Shelley -- If you're on Bluehost, try these two help articles. First, create an FTP account (if you don't already have one). And then download Filezilla, and follow the instructions for setting it up with your Bluehost website.
1. Creating FTP accounts
my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/ftpaccounts
2. Setup using Filezilla
my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/264
Let me know if that helps.
Thanks for your help!
Can you see data in your account now?
nice video my friend.very helpful
Your video is well
informed. I have a problem maybe you can help? When clicking on the
sign up to get my analyics code for my business website it takes me
to a blank page.
(go to Admin > User Management)
You could technically setup Google Analytics for your client using your own gmail account, but...
Gimme a holler if you have any further questions.
can u use the script and the plug in you suggested simultaneously? or one or the other?
Hey Neville -- No, you should not use more than one method. Pick one or the other.
Using both could result in incorrect data being reported.
Thx a bunch the vdo helped alot
They are both excellent options:
- Google Analytics Dashboard for WP
wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-dashboard-for-wp/
- Google Analytics by MonsterInsights
wordpress.org/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/
Thanks for the great tut!..
Very informative and easy to follow. Thanks! What do you do if you want to track both website and mobile?
Do you mean a native mobile app you can download in the App Store or Google Play? You need to create a separate property for that and use the SDK to insert the tracking code.
If you just mean someone viewing a responsive website from their mobile phone, you don't need to do anything extra. The instructions here cover all types of website visitors.
Is there any way I could paste on that theme editor page of wordpress? I don't want to use plugin.
Thanks for the help brotha!
Thank you so much for the information god bless
please wp smackdown, id like to clarify something. are these two different methods to implement ga tracking code onto my website? or is this one method which requires both steps. thank you.
These are two different methods. You would use one or the other, not both. Either use the MonsterInsights plugin (for WordPress sites only), OR use the custom implementation that starts at 10:45.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you, very good video.
Thanks, this was helpful
Hey whats up man, thank you for the video, I have a question if you could help
I have wordpress online shop and I installed WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration plugin, I am not very satisfied with the current plugin but it gives me more info about my product, and I am not sure if I should or if it does improve anything if I installed the monstersight plugin. what do you think should I do and can install both plugin in the same wordpress site ?
WP Smackdown thank you bro, I will contact them and let you know
Highly recommend this video instruction to set up your Google Analytics account to a Word press website.
Thanks for the recommendation, Paula. I'm glad you found it helpful.
Great tutorial, but I do see some of this is dated. Man, tech moves like lightning.
Thanks Nina. Yes, some of this is outdated. I haven't had a chance to record an updated one. Google moves pretty fast with their products.
WP Smackdown, hey, it’s not your fault that I’m just knocking this out. I should’ve had the courage to embrace my dreams much sooner. Either way, thank you for sending me a response.
Thanks, very clear, I got it setup with code. Header.php was a key point missing from other instructions I read.
Awesome! Glad I was able to help. Happy analyzing 🙂
My question:
I have 5 subdomains for my website and one master website.
Thanks, for this amazing video.
+Phakeme Fakazi -- You're welcome! Thanks for watching 🙂
Hey nice video. Question : if i add a new goal with a destination url, would analytics be able to track it without me installing the tracking code?
No, you have to install the tracking code. I recommend you place the tracking code on every single page of your site.
Do i need some to include some policy or consent forms for users when they access the website once i add analytics?
You should consult a lawyer. While I am definitely not a lawyer, the answer is almost certainly, yes.
It depends on how you use Google Analytics, how you set it up, etc., where you live, and where your visitors live... these are the things that will determine what type of policy you need to include.
it was so helpful. you the man
+Elmo one -- Stop. You're making me blush 😊. Glad you found it helpful.
WP Smackdown Thank you so much it's very useful!! :D
It works. Thank you
I need to create a website maybe just for 1 or 2 days, just to do some test to google analytics, but i don't wanna spend money, some web recommended?
thisistap.com/ will let you create a free site for up to 30 days, but you are limited to using their subdomain: yoursite.thisistap.com. But if the domain doesn't matter, I'd definitely go with them.
They are the only free WordPress host I can recommend at this time.
IIS, if you have Windows 10 professional then you can enable it in "Turn Windows Features on or off".
Hey, check these guys out - poopy.life/
on sites that were built well over a decade ago, which consists of a number of various independent pages (i.e. index.htm, about.htm, contact.htm, etc), do i need to place the tracking script in each of these documents??
Modern CMS platforms, like WordPress, have one file (or plugin) that inserts the script on every page, but hand-built websites that use individual html files, unfortunately have to add the code to every page by hand.
thanks for the info. it's def an unusual looking script. prolly cuz of all the arguments and the fact that it's minified. i see it creates a time stamp also. but what the hell is this line of code do: (window,document,'script','www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga')
does that reference an external script or something?>
I believe that is what actually writes the element on the page. But then yes, that script element references the JavaScript code that makes Google Analytics work. All the magic is stored in the analytics.js file hosted on google-analytics.com.
If you want a closer look...
- go to www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js
- copy the minified code
- go to unminify.com and paste the code
Then you can analyze exactly what it's doing :-)
Awesome video thank you!
thank you so much
Just to make sure: So I have wordpress and I completed the process up to 10:43 That means I don't have to do anything else right? Adsense is now in cahoots with my site? Or do I have to continue with the adding tracking script to my theme?..
Correct. Since you're using a plugin to add Google Analytics to your site, you DO NOT need to do anything else or add any tracking script to your theme. The plugin automatically does that for you.
