  • Homemade Hungarian Gerbeaud cake recipe - Gerbeaud cake (Zserbó szelet) is probably the best known Hungarian dessert. Christmas and Easter is just unimaginable without this excellent cake. This dessert was invented by a French confectioner (Emil Gerbeaud) who lived and worked in Hungary. You can taste the original version in the Gerbeaud Confectionery in the heart of Budapest.

    Ingredients:
    - 500 g (18 oz) white flour
    - 250 g (9 oz) lard or butter
    - 2 egg yolks
    - 100 ml (3,4 fl oz) milk
    - 20 g (0,7 oz) fresh yeast
    - 300 g (10,6 oz) ground walnuts
    - 200 g (7 oz) icing sugar
    - 2 tbsp vanilla sugar
    - 400 g (14 oz) apricot jam
    - 200 g (7 oz) dark chocolate
    - 50 g (2 oz) butter
    - salt
