This closet is magical like the magical wardrobe from the chronicles of Narnia. Instead of “the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe”… it’s going to be “Russ, siblings, and the closet”. 😹

Safety feature, if you had kids, they would inevitably break whatever equipment (water stuff, looks like) was in the closet if not locked out of it.
I was gonna spend the rest of the night fixating on why someone would design a locked door with no doorknob. So glad this comment was here.
As someone without kids, this never would have occurred to me.
It’s also likely a deterrent for storing things in there, which shouldn’t be.

He has an instinctive need to look (& especially sniff, for other felines/prey/predators) around his entire territory (even the hidden bits).
In the wild, cats will often even travel from nest (a safe sleeping spot, down in the undergrowth, or up in a tree) to nest, over several weeks - until they loop back to where they started.
I think he is just giving the closet the ‘white glove test’! 😂😉😻🥰

Your Russ asks for the 'closet'😺 Mine would probably say 'basket' (he has special towels for his laundry basket), or 'bags'. The bags of food have to set up just right so he can rub up against them. If not he lets us know🤣🐱🧺🛍️

I have a closet door like this, and we just leave a spare key in it all the time to act as the handle.

That's what I was thinking. My roommates cat runs into his bedroom whenever food is burning in the oven/stove. Usually I smell it like a minute after he runs in.

I moved into a house years ago with an interior room with just a deadbolt as well. Upon further inspection I found ballasts and Ganga leaves. So I figured it was a grow room for the REFER!!

Honey, change thst key bolt to a door knob. If your hot water tank goes, and you can't find the key.... yipes. Its just a screwdriver to change to a knob. Be safe♡ we love your videos

Maybe you should attach a cabinet handle? You could use double sided tape if you didn’t want to drill something. And then you can hang the key from it. Seems better than walking back forth to me 🤷🏻♀️

It's maybe $20 to buy the handle w or w/o lock. It's really easy to change. Maybe it's a play spot for them.
I would secretly switch it with a doorknob just for while I lived there and switch it back when moving

Previous tenants probably had kids and so the deadbolt was put on the mechanical closet to keep them (and it!) safe.
So leaving a key in it, or grabbing a $10 dollar closet door Knob from Walmart and swapping it out until you move out would be fine.

I know it's not an issue in this video, but I was wondering if there's a way to block off the space under the door so toys can't get under and if it would be worth it for them.
I read in once in one if the comment sections that they can't put a towel or draft stopper under the door because of it being a safety hazard. It has a hot water heater in the closet they can't block off the gap at the bottom of the door.

Doorknobs are 5-10 dollars at Walmart. You should already own a screwdriver. The box contains instructions. It takes under 30 minutes to swap out the knob for the keyed entry.
