Resin 3D printing might be a better option.

Cool vid! I'm lucky enough I still have 3 oem sticks that are super tight and snap back to the center haha I'm barely using those, but the kitsch bent parts are decent if you align them right with some grease! They feel good too, way better than 3rd party replacement controllers.

Personally i use epoxy putty and glue to refill the wear on both the bowl and the gear slots and then i sand them into shape along with some grease to make everything smooth and prevent more damage. It's about as close to perfect as a new joystick could get in my own experience, I've done it to all my controllers and I've had no problems whatsoever so far.

@@LITTLE1994 I have been thinking about doing a tutorial on my method to fix the joysticks for a while, but while i would love to help all my fellow N64 enthusiasts out there i know nothing about video editing and i don't have any broken controllers to fix right now.

You can edit videos on your phone easily today
The epoxy is another solution but i think it requires more sanding and finishing than the resin ones

Blowing on the cartridge was the best! Pure nostalgia. Also like that you were playing on a CRT

I use kitsch-bent parts. I also used lube. Seeing this made me go look at their site again and they have different color sticks now.
They use to only have clear sticks. Might be time to grab a few light gray sticks.

I have recently come up with a wonderful idea for improving smoothness but i have yet to try it out. The idea is from my testing i hypothesize alot of the friction and unwanted resistance in the stick can come from the gear shafts rotation point on the rim of the bowl clearly lubricant put here can improve smoothness by a fair margin but better yet if the bowl and gear shaft are slightly modified to use ball bearings instead of relying on a lubricant and smooth contact surfaces(i've found a few aftermarket gears with rough seems there). May make for good content and so far i have yet to find anyone attempting this specific joystick mod.

@@VKsChannel Well, turns out metal is really tough to turn well on a lathe, our resin printer still needs to be set up. I tried to do it with nylon, but that is really hard to machine too.
I´m thinking of creating my own joystick type.
because the gamecube sticks are inaccurate i´m planning on making an entirely mechanical 3ds-style circle pad in cad and print it in resin or SLS (just an idea)
because you can have basicly any type of control stick, as long as you actuate the wheels with the opto sensors.
by not installing a gamecube joystick but making my own type of analog stick I am able to keep the accuracy with better durability. (at least i hope so...)
