Great explanation!! In friendly day to day play (not to calculate handicap), do you use the net double bogey rule or just total score and subtract handicap? Ex. If a buddy of yours scores a 12 on a hole, would you count it as a 12 or use the net double bogey rule? Just curious.

If you were just playing a friendly game by all means use net double bogey to keep from getting too discouraged. If you have a match of any kind then hit all 12 shots and reduce that hole down when posting your score.

In australia we play stableford for all competitions, so nett DB is an out or zero points on that hole. My handicap is 10 so on hole rated 10 a par 4 i get a shot so 4 for 3 points
5 nett par for 2 points
6 for nett bogey =1 point
7 is wipe or nett DB zero points or pick up as cannot score.
    Easy to understand in stableford.

What if your handicap was 12 or if it was 7? Would you get or give a stroke or more? Thx.

On holes you get a stroke on your max gross score would be a triple bogey which after the stroke would be a net double bogey on holes you do not get a stroke your max score would be gross score double bogey which is also a net double bogey since you did not get a stroke on that hole.

Almost understand. Here’s two real life examples on which I ask that you do the arithmetic: I am a 13 handicap. Say I blow up a Par 4 that is the 10 handicap hole … what is my score? And say that blow up happened on a Par 4 that is the course 16 handicap hole.
      Thank you.

@@davekennedy8626 On the 10 handicap hole your net double bogey would be a 7…that is your max score would be a 7 since that is a hole you would get a stroke bringing your net score down to a double bogey 6…but the score you would write on your card is a 7. On the 16 handicap hole the max score would be a 6 since you do not get a stroke on that hole therefore your gross and net score would be the same. Does that clear it up at all?

@@AndyWeissinger it surely does. I’m not usually this dense but I have my moments.

Say I want to post my round on the GHIN website and I had a few holes where net double bogey came into play. Do I post my real gross score or do I post my Net score? Thanks

Just a guess here, but I would guess you would enter your hole by hole score and the GHIN would calculate your handicap using the net double bogey rule. I also assume you would need your courses slope and rating entered. I've never used the GHIN, so this is me totally assuming.
