    So rather than enforcing the rules for slow play, the PGA solution is to reduce the number of players in the tournament. LPGA is even worse when it comes to slow play and still, you rarely hear of any player in the field getting hit with a penalty. All you hear is, they are on the clock and have received a warning.

    I hate when my club sends out a group of 5. if they are good players and considerate, no big deal. Usually that is not the case. When a situation arises where a friend of one of the groups I"m in joins and so the group wants to make it 5, I'll go to the range or join a group I don't know, rather than play 5.

      I think it also matters time of year/people on the course. I golf with a group that sometimes has 5 people show up and find that 5 goes faster than groups of 3 and 2. I will say, we're all decent golfers and hit when ready and it's safe to do so. People who line up every shot like their life depends on it are the real culprits. And we also say, triple bogey means pick it up.

    Not being able to hit a provisional ball when the ball was hit into a penalty area doesn’t make sense since stroke and distance is an option for a penalty area. Just makes you have to go back to the tee box if you decide to use that option.

    It would have also been useful to first define what an embedded ball is and then to also note that you get relief anywhere on the golf course other than a penalty area or sand trap.

    Yes - if you are playing a PGA/USGA competition. If you are playing social golf, then play preferred lies for any lie that is not perfect. I cannot understand why some people play social golf under the exact same rules as a Pro. They dont do that when playing football or any other sports, so why do they do that for golf. The game is much better when played 'sensibly' and when not imposing on yourself the same rules as a Pro - who plays on great courses with perfect fairways and raked bunkers etc etc.

    Hi Andy, what happens if your ball is on the putting surface, you've marked your ball, replaced the ball on it's spot. Take a practice putt and hit the ball by accident? Is that a 1 stroke penalty as well or does the ball own it's spot on the green and you place it back?

  • @Wolfie565

    Let's say you hit your drive to the right and end up on a cart path. Your nearest point of relief will be the spot on the golf course nearest to where your ball lies is that is not nearer to the hole and that gives you complete relief from the cart path. To determine that spot, you should use the club that you would have used if the cart path was not there. So if your ball on the cart path is 150 yards from the hole and you would normally hit a 7-iron, that is the club that you should use to determine your nearest point of relief

      @@Wolfie565 for a Right Hand Player with a Path on the Right side of the Hole in the vast majority of cases your Nearest Point of Complete Relief will be about 6 inches to the Left of the Path BECAUSE No matter which Club you select that's where the Clubhead would sit on the Ground. On the Right side of the Path your Heels would be just off the Path and then you have the Distance from the Toe Line of your Stance out to where the Club would Ground. POINT of Complete Relief (Left) is only 6 Inches , while (Right) would be more like 2.5 to 3 Feet from the edge of the Path.

    Anchoring does nothing. If there is any unfairness it is left arm position. That can be used to block out blade twisting. It teaches one to go under and not around through impact. Many touring pros use it for that purpose during practice only. My make rate from six feet is 100 out of 100 anchored or not anchored. And it never made any difference to the leading Senior winner. Me either. Again, the ease of left arm blade twist lockout could be considered cheating by some if they knew how easy that is. Some top college putting coaches teach this as a method of practice only. I was taught this by an active touring pro myself. He practices blade twist lock out one hour a day with the long putter. Uses the reg short putter on the golf course. He was one of only four people under 25 to lead into the final round of the U.S. Open. He could play.

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger 3 місяці тому

      Not too hard if you get your shaft nice and glowing red and then be sure to bend slowly. You will most likely have to re-epoxy the head on the shaft after due to the extreme heat traveling down the inside of the shaft and melting the epoxy already in place. That was more tricky to get the exact angle you want after the epoxy.

      On a tee ball it is not a penalty because the ball is not in play until you have made a stroke (by definition you have to intend to hit the ball). So if you did not intend to hit it (i.e. practice swing) then yo would replace the ball and hit away with no penalty.

    My ball was in a bush a foot from cartpath, an official said first step is to drop on the cart path, then from there drop to the nearest point of relief...I argued that no where in the rules of golf does it have you dropping in a concrete cart path.. what's right?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger 4 місяці тому

      You take relief from one thing at a time. First the bush - if that nearest point is on the path then that is where you would drop and then you would take relief from the path after you dropped it there.

    What's the ruling? I hit my 3rd shot and both me and my caddie thought my ball landed in the yellow penalty area. So I took a drop behind the yellow line and hit my 5th shot. However, my playing partners informed me after that my 3rd shot went over the penalty area and to the left rough. I was told to go on with the current ball and incur a 2 stroke penalty. How does the rule apply to this?

    • @AndyWeissinger

      Once you take a drop from a penalty area that becomes the ball in play. The idea of a provisional can only be used with a possible lost ball or out of bounds.
