    Seems like two club lengths lateral relief could have got you to a better spot than you demonstrated. That would have been closer to where your bag was.

    Let's say you hit your drive to the right and end up on a cart path. Your nearest point of relief will be the spot on the golf course nearest to where your ball lies is that is not nearer to the hole and that gives you complete relief from the cart path. To determine that spot, you should use the club that you would have used if the cart path was not there. So if your ball on the cart path is 150 yards from the hole and you would normally hit a 7-iron, that is the club that you should use to determine your nearest point of relief

    Anchoring does nothing. If there is any unfairness it is left arm position. That can be used to block out blade twisting. It teaches one to go under and not around through impact. Many touring pros use it for that purpose during practice only. My make rate from six feet is 100 out of 100 anchored or not anchored. And it never made any difference to the leading Senior winner. Me either. Again, the ease of left arm blade twist lockout could be considered cheating by some if they knew how easy that is. Some top college putting coaches teach this as a method of practice only. I was taught this by an active touring pro myself. He practices blade twist lock out one hour a day with the long putter. Uses the reg short putter on the golf course. He was one of only four people under 25 to lead into the final round of the U.S. Open. He could play.

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger 26 днів тому

      Not too hard if you get your shaft nice and glowing red and then be sure to bend slowly. You will most likely have to re-epoxy the head on the shaft after due to the extreme heat traveling down the inside of the shaft and melting the epoxy already in place. That was more tricky to get the exact angle you want after the epoxy.

    My opponent ended up losing both his first ball and provisional ball. He took a drop on his 1st ball without regard for the second, so he's hitting 3. Is this correct?

    Hi. What about on a tee? Same? - even though an obvious practice swing or even just starting to line up moves the ball.

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger Місяць тому

      On a tee ball it is not a penalty because the ball is not in play until you have made a stroke (by definition you have to intend to hit the ball). So if you did not intend to hit it (i.e. practice swing) then yo would replace the ball and hit away with no penalty.

    My ball was in a bush a foot from cartpath, an official said first step is to drop on the cart path, then from there drop to the nearest point of relief...I argued that no where in the rules of golf does it have you dropping in a concrete cart path.. what's right?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger Місяць тому

      You take relief from one thing at a time. First the bush - if that nearest point is on the path then that is where you would drop and then you would take relief from the path after you dropped it there.

    What's the ruling? I hit my 3rd shot and both me and my caddie thought my ball landed in the yellow penalty area. So I took a drop behind the yellow line and hit my 5th shot. However, my playing partners informed me after that my 3rd shot went over the penalty area and to the left rough. I was told to go on with the current ball and incur a 2 stroke penalty. How does the rule apply to this?

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger Місяць тому

      Once you take a drop from a penalty area that becomes the ball in play. The idea of a provisional can only be used with a possible lost ball or out of bounds.

    Does this rule apply when the ball is so embedded that you can no longer see it, but you are certain or almost certain that it hit a specific spot? There's a mud hole of a course that we play occasionally that is open all winter regardless of rain, and you can easily hit a wedge 50 yards, land it just shy of the green, and have it end up 6 inches plus underground, dead center fairway. It happens probably 5+ times a round per person. I know another rule specifically lists some abnormal ground conditions like temporary water that allow for a free drop, but it doesn't specifically list mud. Every article and forum I find on the matter seems to be split 50-50 on the ruling there haha. Curious on your opinion!

    • @AndyWeissinger
      @AndyWeissinger 4 місяці тому

      Based on Rule 14.2 when it says you may substitute a ball with no penalty if “The original ball cannot be recovered with reasonable effort and in a few seconds, so long as the player did not deliberately cause the ball to become unrecoverable,” you would be able to put a new ball down with no penalty. This situation would most certainly apply to what you described.

    This a crucial and subtle concept on the golf swing. If you don't manage your center of gravity properly, the golf swing requires more effort and results in inconsistencies. To manage the center of gravity properly makes for a smooth effortless swing. This video deserves more than 4l.5K views. CG is something you don't hear a lot about.

    Hi Andy, I have a question based on your scenario in which you took relief from the sand after the cart path relief. What if, after you found your NPR from the cart path and then the sand, you then took your club one length relief area from NPR, AND THEN found another obstruction such as a sprinkler head, than didn't interfere from your NPR BEFORE taking your one club length relief area. The question is would you then get ever further relief from that sprinkler head? I don't think that you would because you have found your NPR from the original obstruction(s). If they did get further relief, the player would be hopping across the course from one obstruction to another. It's not real clear in the rules or definitions, but a cause of heated debates.
