I Beat Paper Mario: TTYD WITHOUT Action Commands

- Bringle may have popularized this challenge, but it's UA-cam. I can make videos on challenges that have been attempted before and no one has a monopoly on what content can be made.
Anyways, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door without action commands. Went with more mellow music for this and there's a lack of captions because I didn't use a script for most of this video. I feel like my commentary both is delivered worse and somehow has more inaccuracies so I'm just going to drop doing them from now on. This will sadly mean my videos will be less accessible for people who have difficulty hearing, but I apologize. I can't find it in me to devote the time to caption my videos if I don't already have the script ahead of time.

All I can remember is that Vivian is really good in this run.
Vivian is most certainly good in this run.
in a debate between peril/danger strats and using more items, with proper setup, you can permenently keep peril on someone and mollywop any challenge in your way, but with more item usage, you run the risk of running low, or giving the enemy enough time to actually kick your but. so I think being less reliant on danger strats would be a good idea.
imo it'd mean fights would just be slower instead of really harder. And without superguards, grinding would end up being necessary which adds essentially nothing but hours for the person playing the game unless I abuse Ultra Shrooms. And those are always something I can get in bulk, lol
@@PhantomAarantulaif I did challenge runs I would have scavenge rules be in effect for healing items with an outright ban on life shrooms unless it’s mathematically unwinnable otherwise as a personal rule. Still won’t superguard and even try to modify the game to remove the 3 frame window altogether so I can’t even accidentally superguard as rare as that could be to hit a 3 frame window when trying to normally guard
@cyanideytandcuriousseadogg4160 How would you accidentally superguard when it's mapped to its own button? This ain't Bug Fables. Unless you just forget your own rules and superguard instinctively
I just hope the ttyd remake has a boss rush mode or some new bosses for the postgame maybe both of those but i doubt it, nice video by the way keep up the good work my friend.

29:30 about showstopper I would remove the flashing lights entirely. They get replaced by dimming the lights for the animation with spotlights on the enemies that survived by resisting and not because the player messed up the action command.

I would say try to avoid using mega rush P, but note if it's an option that would make it massively easier. Or vice versa, note when not using it presents another viable option.
Love your videos can't wait for you to play the remaster. Question: Could you do a partner only mario rpg run?
For the remake, I can definitely play a partner only challenge if I use all 7 of them. That might even be the first challenge I do for it.

Yep! It's a neat tactic when fog is coming to try and ruin your day. Though odds are only Mario is going to directly benefit, and it also gives the enemy no fog to contest with.
@@PhantomAarantula if I think hard enough, I’m sure I could remember a time that fog caused a problem.
As for ttyd it fun learning new things about your favorite games.

i usually hoard items like a beast, i beat the bristles and other fortress enemies with super guards rather then use items.. as a kid, nothing like using badges instead of items

Besides aide the algorithm, what does Double Dip P do? Is it like Pot of Greed?
I don't actually know what Pot of Greed is, just that it's from Yu Gi Oh.
Double Dip P gives your Partners the ability to use 2 Items in one turn for a bit of FP.

Can you not do the Ultra Hammer early and bookcase jump after signing up?
If you sign the contract, you're immediately escorted out of Grubba's office and are denied reentry without being forced to leave unless you're at the very end of the chapter where Rawk Hawk is already beaten.

...you'd prefer if I violated the one rule that's the entire point of the challenge instead of acting according to what would make the challenge possible. I don't follow.
i think it would've been more interesting to go through the glitz pit as normal and just break the rules for the armored harriers. they restrict most challenge runs from being possible anyway@@PhantomAarantula
@worthplayingfor2197 I'm sorry, I do much appreciate that you enjoyed the video, but I completely disagree with your opinion surrounding preferring an exception to the rules as opposed to using glitches to bypass obstacles. If for a playthrough I went the route of just allowing action commands for the one fight, it would be no different from allowing action commands for the entire game and just feels arbitrary from how I see it.
@@PhantomAarantula I suppose the way I see it, it's the ONE time you have to break the rules and is a roadblock in almost every challenge. One could use the same argument about glitches, saying that if you're going to use glitches, you might as well use ones that skip as much of the game as possible. Obviously that wouldn't make for an interesting challenge though, so u only use the 1 that u needed
What does double dip P do?
Double Dip P grants Mario's partner the skill to use Double Dip which means they can use two items in a single turn for 4 FP. If two are equipped at the same time, they can use another skill in Triple Dip which for 8 FP allows them to use 3 items in a single turn. Really good stuff.
