Not being bias, I like the plot of this version, but in my opinion, I'm not sure if Colin Firth is suitable of being Mr Darcy, and I'm not sure if Jennifer Ehle is suitable of being Lizzy. Again, its in my own opinion, not being bias. If is Keira Knightley instead of Jennifer Ehle and Matthew Macfadyen instead of Colin Firth, this in my opinion will be perfect. But that doesn't mean that I don't like Colin Firth or Jennifer Ehle.
A work of enduring art. Magnificent performances all round. I am proud to say that Jennifer Ehle replied to my letter 22 years ago praising the program and wonderful performances. She replied with a signed copy of the series book, and said how much she enjoyed making it. They were so many people playing their parts to perfection that the result was a timeless piece of art.
💓💓. Quel plaisir.
Watched and rewatched this sooo many times with my mum. Just have to say this version of Pride and Prejudice is unbeatable. The first time I watched it, I was so entranced by this opening! 💕 Elizabeth is such a role model.
This is absolutely my favorite version of Pride and Prejudice and one of my favourite music. This is an amazing movie with wonderful actors and a wonderful music !!! I am a fan of this movie. I have watched it a thousand time and I am going to watch it again, it is definitely my favorite movie !
The original version was a masterpeice, and in my opinion the newer version should never have been made. They did a spectacular job with the six hour version, keeping it true to the book and the characters and portraying all aspects perfectly. Three cheers for THIS version of the movie!
Lovely music--the ‘original idea’ is the 3rd movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 (K271). The composer has adapted it very well from Mozart’s ‘original’!
I have found my one and only. She is the sweetest human being ever and brings so much happiness and sheer joy to my life. I never thought I would ever be so lucky. She's the love of my life. I love her from the bottom of my heart.
You have every reason, too, to be proud. This exquisite piece, which I choose to call 'Elizabeth's Theme', was written by an American, a New Yorker - Carl Davis. Look him up in Wikipedia. I first heard this when I was recovering from a serious illness. It made all the difference to my healing just to lie in bed and listen to this often. I hope one day I shall be able to thank Carl Davis for aiding my recovery.
@cridavies29 I had no idea this was written by an American but it is just beautiful. I assumed, without checking, that it had been written by a Briton because they do all of these kinds of things so well. Congrats on your recovery! Music can indeed heal. Thanks for the info.
I remember..I REMEMBER everything! Elizabeth, running down the hill, Netherfield Ball, First proposal, Lake meeting, Second proposal and the end. Sweet, touching, romantic memories are stil in my mind and heart. Best version.! Thanks!
When I was off school with severe depression, 12 years ago, my mum watching and me snuggled up to her feeling safe. Didnt know what was going on but loved it just hearing this music and being with my mama 🥰
A masterpiece soundtrack with a period fortepiano played by the great Melvyn Tan. Suitable for the best film rendition of Pride and Prejudice. The casting was nothing short of genius. Standout performances by all -- my favorites are Jennifer Ehle as Lizzie, David Bamber as Mr. Collins (in all his grotesque glory), Alison Steadman as Mrs. Bennett, Benjamin Whitrow as Mr. Bennett. Honorable mention of performances by Barbara Hunt-Leigh as Lady Catherine and Nadia Chambers as her sickly daughter.
Having seen all versions of this wonderful novel made for film or television, I firmly believe that the one that best captures the true spirit of the novel, and portrays the most credible and sympathetic characters of Elizabeth and Darcy is this 1995 television series. Superb!
But I dare say sir that the tolerable ones are the most dangerous.. you may not feel the effects of calling it barely tolerable right now but one day you surely will fall in love with this...😂😂
This is a good theme song for this movie and time era. This is the best version because everything was very accurate and it was what I would have imagined after reading the book.
Wonderful music, it captures the essence of this Pride and Prejudice adaptation. Those were great times back in the 90's when this was on the telly. It is still the best one by far.
@@VocaloidWangYao A piaboforte's strings are plucked (as far as I know, don't know how though) and a piano's string are "struck". Makes a difference in sound. When I played baroque music in school I had a teacher who cpould play it and since we had one at our school she would use it to acompany me. It was great.
It’s a fortepiano that is being played and the strings are not plucked (that would be a harpsichord) but it probably has a wooden frame rather than the iron frame of a modern piano and leather rather than felt hammers. It does not have the sustaining power of the modern pianoforte but it has its own charm and is the perfect sound for the period in which Pride and Prejudice is set. Carl Davis created glorious music for this production and it is beautifully played by Melvin Tan on the fortepiano.
@@metacarpleYes, and it's straight-strung rather than cross-strung (or overstrung) like a modern Steinway: probably the biggest reason it has such a different sound. It has such a lovely and delicate midrange. Robert Levin said that pianos of this era (early 1800s) were designed to 'speak' instead of 'sing'. In fact, many of the early metal-framed pianos of the 1830s up until the 1860s still retained straight stringing; thus, they sound closer to a fortepiano than an 1890s grand piano. Brahms and many other composers utilized the instrument's midrange so much because it tended to suit the characteristics of these instruments much more.

wow just fantastic always puts me in the best mood! i always picture lizzy going for her morning walks at the start of the series with this in the background :)
One of the only reasons I would actually agree to a wedding ceremony. Beloved music, actors, production--- a complete experience. I will take my love for this with me to other side♥️
+Alma Alvarado Yeah, and almost exactly follows the dialogue, and makes it cool. Some people find the cast not good, but I think they were just fine. Colin Firth nailed Darcy though, he was perfect.
This actually began to play on the radio as I entered Bath for a regency ball! It was the one of the most approitate pieces that could play as I drove through Bath.
I couldn't agree more! that movie is terrible, between the fake romantic scene which is not in the book and the fact both Darcy and Elizabeth are totally out of character compared to their book countrerparts, I am so sorry there are young girls trhat think that is P&P!
Finally able to play this on piano (in a simple way ofcourse), makes me very happy playing it ! :) Really love Pride & Prejudice, Mr Darcy forever haha (:
Pretty sure the melody was based on the 2nd (slow) movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto 9 (K271), also known as “Jeuenehomme”; just as the lovely song, ‘I don’t know how to love him’ was based on the 2nd (slow) movement of Mendelssohn’s great Violin Concerto--this violin concerto, along with those of Beethoven, Brahms & Max Bruck, generally known as ‘ The great 4 German Violin Concertos’

Absolutely.
The story, the actors, the music, the landscapes...simply a masterpiece ❤❤❤

@Mary Blake Fletcher Lol you're welcome
I can't think of a single bad performance in it. All the actors were top tier.

Simply, every time I hear this music I am overcome with joy. It is impossible to feel anything else. God bless Colin Davis. God bless Jane Austen.
This is so close to my heart, I cannot even tell you.
I feel just as passionately about it, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

What a lovely tune. I adore all versions or Pride and Prejudice, but this one (and its music) are especially dear to me.
Best version ever(1000x better than the Kiera Knightly one). The casting in this was uncanny!
