i love how all the influence of each musicians' respective bands came out so masterfully in this super groups' music !..Asia is fine prog rock blended with catchy choruses so cleverly done..you can hear subtle Yes, ELP, nuances..fantastic !
John Wetton lead singer/songwriter of Asia passed in January of this year--my condolences to his family. He was a great talent. His contribution to Asia's style and sound was pretty phenomenal. I love this song. I hope John found peace.

This band had the goods. This whole album shows that. Subsequent releases were weak, and the band became fragmented. At least this album remains a testament to their collective talents, before their personalities clashed.

The second chorus he shows "I was the sole survivor" when the song is clearly "I am the sole survivor". Listen at 2:16. I also believe the correct words are "When I run the hounds of Hell" rather than "ride". If he was riding, how could he twist his ankle and nearly fall? Nope. Sounds like you might run the bulls in Spain, twist your foot and fall and you're going to be in serious trouble. Run the hounds of hell and twist your foot and fall they will tear you to pieces.
I swear that this song must have invented the "Final Fantasy" video game series....the "solo/bridge thing" (LOL :-)) is pretty much right out of the FF VII soundtrack! Makes sense - Nobuo Uematsu (FF music composer) was influenced by ELP (like Tarkus) and probably was keeping up with Carl Palmer....the story of the game's title comes from the fact that the company (squaresoft/enix) was about to go under, and so the creator just gave the game the title to symbolize his final attempt at success....and, well, it worked....the end was just the beginning....love those games... I checked a different recording, ua-cam.com/video/b_0TzCuEA9Q/v-deo.html and at 0:47 you can clearly hear him sing "Run". At 1:28 you can clearly hear "Flier". At 2:15 it's clearly "I am the sole survivor". At 2:30, it does sound like he's singing "fire" and not "flier" so at that point, maybe you're right. I'm curious why you left off the 3rd iteration where he sings at 4:04 "I'll be the sole survivor" before entering into the repetitious coda. It would be great if you could correct the lyrics that you posted. I'd post the song with the correct lyrics but I don't know how and am to lazy to learn. Thank you for posting them anyway. I like this longer version.
They were and are awesome. The band got too big too quickly and infighting did them in their first incarnation in the '80s; John admitted to having a massive ego back then and his problems with alcohol didn't help, but the man has come a long, long way. His lyrics today reflect that and he's playing and performing as hard as when he was in his 20s.
This song seems to be about the Book of Revelation. The verses that speak of the angel who has the key to the bottomless pit. He opens the pit and releases all of this horrid supernatural beings that look part human and part insect to attack humanity. The angel's name is Appollyon.

This number shows how awesome Asia could have been. Big Wetton fan but I just don't think they lived up to their potential.
