It must say something when someone can talk about baked beans for 13 minutes and hold my interest! It was certainly a thorough taste test. I've always liked the Branson's ever since they were originally under the brand name of Crosse & Blackwell. They seem to have a richer tomato sauce. 🍅 As you say, they're available in packs of 4 at 50p a can. I usually buy them from Iceland's.
I always liked the Branston beans over Heinz and others. Although we just get Tescos own as its often 4 for £1 on Clubcard. These comparisons videos are spot on Gareth, you're doing an important public service!
We get the Tescos own beans for a £1 too. I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve become accustomed to it, but I prefer them over Branson & Heinz. You can never go far wrong with good ol’ baked beans though.
@@Theroadlesstaken I agree, Tescos own brand are really good, much better than other supermarkets own brands i have tried in the past. Aye baked beans are one of the most cheap and versitile foods you can get, they are cheap food royalty they are.
Heinz beans were always the best beans by far, no one even came close ... then they removed a certain amount of salt and sugar some years back and ruined a delicious baked bean. These days I go with what was always my second best Branston beans as they now taste better than Heinz. A bad move by Heinz removing what they did they ruined their superior taste. Worse beans I have ever had came from Aldi supermarket yuk they tasted like palma violets (if anyone remembers them sweets) they may have only been 8p but god they were uneatable in my opinion.
@@martinwebb1681 I’ve never had Branston beans but I will give them a go after the comments here - I do remember some horrendous Aldi beans tho! Branston 150%!!! I swear so many folk are only loyal to Heinz due to how iconic the brand is. Same goes with their ketchup. It’s familiarity. That’s all.
Kev Q ... Heinz ketchup is simply the best, there are a few others I like, Daddies isn't to bad and Tesco sell a Polish brand Pudizsky or something similar and that is surprisingly good and only a £1 a bottle. Tried Tesco's own once and Sainsbury's own and once was enough ... yuk.
I usually get Branston… £1.50 x4 on offer in Iceland… if I can’t get them I get bog standard beans. I always put a good blob of butter and splat of ketchup in them to liven them up… 😁 the actual haricot beans are all the same in any price tin, so it’s all in the sauce. Look forward to later 😘👍🏼
Like your style with the butter diane but I always put brown sauce in my beans not red sauce and cook them till they are really mushy on buttered hot toast or a hot buttered baked potato 👍👍🥔🥔🍞🍞

Branston was our favourite for a long time - they used to have offers of 3 for £1 in the bargain stores and sometimes 4 packs for £1.25 in the supermarkets - the 4 packs then seemed to have disappeared for a long time so after using up my stock we resorted to a mix of Waitrose Essential (4 for £1.20 for a while) and Tesco (same) - they have been okay but I found some Branston for 40p a tin from Asda the other week (a tray of 12!) - I think they are a tad better flavoured :)

You've got me at it, I noticed that S/burys have a new product out, slow cooked chili with chipotle sauce. So I bought one to try. Keep up the good work G !!!!
Totally. People make the mistake of just warming tinned baked beans up. The secret is to have them on the hob low and slow for an age then give them a good blast at the end. That breaks the beans down and makes them far tastier. 👍
We always used to have HP baked beans but when Branston came along we switched to them. We usually shop at Sainsburys, Co-op or Lidl all of which are in our town less than a mile away. Morrisons, Tesco and the rest are a eight mile round trip. We buy a couple of packs when Branston are on offer and they last us till the next offer comes along.
That was a good comparison between a 'top of the priced' and the cheaper ones. A million housewives every day pick up a tin of beans and say “ beans means Heinz “. I even remember the tune! It’s going to be stuck in my head for the rest of today Gareth.🤪 Stay safe, keep the videos coming, love watching them.😊
Oh man, I love beans, watched you intently for this one. Branston's my favourite, but I generally have to add a teeny bit of salt and sugar to Asda's own soups and beans, they're fine then. I will buy a tin of Smart Price to try, but any beans are great added to stew or cottage pie as a filler ☺ ETA: Have you done tinned toms, I'm always confused which ones to get.
Di Donnelly ... You can't go wrong with Napolina tinned tomatoes, they are so superior in flavour to all the others and the cheaper brands are a no, no as they are far to acidic and sour. Napolina are one of the most expensive but there is a good reason for that as they are delicious.
So I've revisited this video as Gareth suggested in his latest video comparing baked beans & sausages (Oct 2022), and here are my findings. Firstly asda have changed their economy range from Smart Price to Just Essentials (I don’t know if there's any difference between them) and I included Tesco's economy brand Stockwell & Co because Gareth compared them in his latest test of Baked Beans and Sausages. Asda) Smart Price Baked Beans 2021: 22p Just Essentials Baked Beans 2022: 25p Tesco) Stockwell & C0 Baked Beans 2021: ? 2022: 26p Branston) Baked Beans (per tin from multi-pack) 2021: 50p 2022: 75p Heinz) Baked Beans (individual tin) 2021: 85p 2022: £1.20 Heinz) BakedBeans (per tin from multi-pack) 2021: ? 2022: 87p So based on my incomplete research it seems the economy Baked Beans have risen by a few pence in the last year, however Branston (my favourites btw) have risen by a 25p and Heinz 35p.
Own brand beans are always watery, Heinz are ok, but Branston are the best by far, both flavour and texture. I used to buy them at Costco, a pack of 24 cost about £8, so about 33p each. Have not been there since Covid so probably a bit more these days.
I bought a 24 tray from Makro for £9 something which is up by £2 since I last bought them from there but still cheaper than the supermarkets, the ones near me never have the multipacks and none at all if they’re on offer.
I've found the Asda smart price to be the best for me,but you have to cook them slowly to caramelise the sugar and stir regularly and scrape the tasty bits back into the sauce, warming tinned Beans up and just serving lessens the taste by at least 50% in my experience.
No worries mate, same as most baked beans it takes at least a half hour but the difference is worth it, understandably having the time to constantly watch and stir is a pain in the arse but in my crap opinion worth it 😂.good channel in these harsh climes keep it up,😎.
Thanks for this, I've been cooking beans wrong for years. I usually just put the hob on max and always wondered why my beans don't taste right even when using hienz. I'm guessing it's because I've been heating them too fast. I definetly won't be heating them for half a hour tho 😂
I'm glad you said Branston Baked Beans we all love them , Almost every saturday lunch time i have a bacon and baked beans in a tiger bread french stick 👍
I feel with this one you should of done a supermarket value baked bean taste test as Asda’s smart price beans were never going to match up to a leading brand, and then a leading brand baked bean test. Love the videos, keep them coming 👍
Love this one,my favorite is 1st Asda, 2nd Heniz 3rd Branston, Branston are a bit sweet for me, they go great with a Ginstead pasty, love how you still talk in old money , take care.x
We buy Tescos own brand. Not as nice as Heinz but it's not worth the extra price to buy Heinz. A good review those supermarket branded beans looked very watery.
I'm a latecomer to Baked Beans, but they are now a store cupboard standby. I buy the Heinz microwaveable Snap Pots which are around £2 for 4. They are more expensive but they're sugar free and sweetened with Stevia and not Aspartame. Might try the Branston though, they look good! 🍽
Aldi baked beans are the worse baked beans I have ever tasted, called Corale baked beans, god they taste like perfume or Palma violet sweets (if any one remembers them) ... no sorry most disgusting baked beans ever, cheap maybe but totally inedible ... yuk.
I like aldi beans too, I put a splash of black bean soya sauce in mine, always, I went off HP beans few years ago, found them to a bit too hard, they changed the way they cooked them I think.
Was always a Heinz man every since a kid but moved to Branston past few years as Heinz went watery. If they aren't on offer ill buy the cheapest like Smart Price, add some Tobasco and HP brown they make any taste good. Only time I'll go with Heinz is when beans n sausage are 50p, love those
Hmmmm. Having tried loads of different beans over the years I usually go back to Heinz. To be fair there are a few offers on at the mo, and often are at Iceland Farmfoods etc averaging 50p a tin on Heinz. Not tried Branston for ages so might give them a try again just to see. For me, if you are only having them 'now and again' its worth paying a few pence more for quality taste imo. Totally get the less expensive options if you use quite a lot though and have a family to feed definitely. And love the Heinz beans and sausage tin on toast. Mmmmm.
Hi. Love the video as always. Here’s my solution. Buy 1 Branson and 1 smart price and mix the 2. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of your favourite seasoning and boom 36p a tin and very tasty.
@@callumbush1 from years ago yes I'm sure they never tasted like now plus the beans are bigger than they used to use ,I'm 55 so have eaten a fair few trumpetytrump😜🍀🇬🇧👍🏼
Garrett great review, l prefer Branston, the Smart Price one's have a type of onion power taste to them, A lot of the time One Below have them 3 for £1.20. They also have large Heinz beans and soup tins for 59p.
To me, canned beans are always far too sweet. Last year I started making own, using tins of beans, tins of chopped tomato, tomato puree, and adding some herbs and spices - cumin, coriander and oregano. To me they taste better than anything I can buy, and they work out cheaper too!
Agreed, Branston is best. Supermarket saver beans are watery, often with hard beans. I use Heinz for sausage and beans as I never seem to see the Branston version.
Allreat fella, Branston every time for me,have you ever tried adding a teaspoon of malt vinager and two of brown sugar when cooking them ? makes them taste like BBQ, looking forward to watching tonight 👀
I have been getting Branston for year's love the taste. Best flavour go nicely with so many thing's and a great bargain. Thanks for sharing love these comparisons.
i often use the cheap label beans .. I pour off some of the thin sauce .. then you can add what you like .. ie a shot ketchup or a chilli or even a bit of brown bottled sauce .. make your own flavour to taste ...
Branson beans !are the best truly tasty ......I also like Waitrose essential ones ...that weren't on your video .they are good .my late husband claimed he knew the difference between the beans !!!!he reckoned it was the sauce that was different .
Branstons for me everytime I find Heinz are overrated and people just buy them because of the brand name, Aldi beans are very good aswell.. Oh and I always love a nob of butter and a load of pepper in my beans😂
Heinz wrecked their beans when they took out a lot of the salt and sugar. Tasteless these days. need to add the sugar and salt back in whilst warming through.
Yes I love Branston beans but when I sent my daughter to get me multi packs of them.. she came back with 18 tins 3pks of 6 of Heinz on offer she said for £14 well I was flabbergasted to say the least Great review Gareth..
I was a Heinz only bloke for most of my life but a few years ago tried Sainsbury's beans that were half the price and never looked back. Thing is, I splash brown sauce on them most of the time and you can't tell the difference anyway! You pay up for branded stuff, but what you get isn't necessarily superior.
I prefer HP baked beans myself, a few months ago Fulton's Foods were selling four standard cans of HP for £1.00, that was a bargain for quality branded beans. More recently they've changed it to only two cans for £1.00, so they are now the same price as the Branston beans.
I love Tesco's home brand. Partner once bought Heinz and daughter asked why the beans tasted funny! I really preferred Tesco's to Heinz! but like you say its all on personal choice.
in nz heinz beans kiwi recipe is 91 cents, heinz british recipe $2.30 branstons is $3 a 410 tin and the supermarket specials 60 cents, the kiwi dollar is worth around 10 bob. l find the beans in the budget brands taste the same it just the sauce that seems more watery
When I start watching your videos I stay to the end, and this was about beans! 😂 I buy Stockwells cheap brand from Tesco, like you say on a baked potato with grated cheese that's affordable. This is a year on and due to the cost of living crisis that brand is now 27p. The Branston baked beans at Asda are now 75p so in a year gone up by 25p! The Just essentials baked beans at Asda are now 27p, like the tesco no frills brand, so they've gone up 5p. I better get off here, I've got things to do😆
To the budget or any beans I add a little butter, salt and pepper plus a dob of tomato sauce for depth and sweetness depending on your tastes . It makes them more indulgent on your toast !!
Great video 👍 Have you had Branson's brown sauce yet? I think it's better than HP, a mate of mine tipped me off about it. I'd be interested to see a sauce off!!! 👍
I love Branstons. Superior to any other tinned beans.
I agree also the Branstons beans and sausage are better than the heinz beans and sausage the Branstons sausage has more texture and flavour

Asda) Smart Price Baked Beans 2021: 22p Just Essentials Baked Beans 2022: 25p
Tesco) Stockwell & C0 Baked Beans 2021: ? 2022: 26p
Branston) Baked Beans (per tin from multi-pack) 2021: 50p 2022: 75p
Heinz) Baked Beans (individual tin) 2021: 85p 2022: £1.20
Heinz) BakedBeans (per tin from multi-pack) 2021: ? 2022: 87p
So based on my incomplete research it seems the economy Baked Beans have risen by a few pence in the last year, however Branston (my favourites btw) have risen by a 25p and Heinz 35p.
Thank you, yes I forgot I did them, lol, good information thank you.
I always put a bit of butter in the beans really nice
Another great video mate. Spot on!
Thank you
Own brand beans are always watery, Heinz are ok, but Branston are the best by far, both flavour and texture. I used to buy them at Costco, a pack of 24 cost about £8, so about 33p each. Have not been there since Covid so probably a bit more these days.
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for sharing!
I love baked beans with Oxo crumbled into them; about half a cube is enough for a large tin. Heaven!
I always Pepper up my beans whilst warming them in the pan four times the normal pepper I would put on my meal. It makes them lovely!
I normally buy four packs of Branstons when on offer in Sainsbury's. The small tins of Heinz are usually discounted at Home Bargains.
Beanz meanz - Branstons , by far the better beans for a rich tomato taste
I'm glad you said Branston Baked Beans we all love them , Almost every saturday lunch time i have a bacon and baked beans in a tiger bread french stick 👍
Cheers Gaz
I feel with this one you should of done a supermarket value baked bean taste test as Asda’s smart price beans were never going to match up to a leading brand, and then a leading brand baked bean test. Love the videos, keep them coming 👍
Cheers my good lady rated smart Price second best
Love this one,my favorite is 1st Asda, 2nd Heniz 3rd Branston, Branston are a bit sweet for me, they go great with a Ginstead pasty, love how you still talk in old money , take care.x
Cheers Kim very kind of you thanks x
We buy Tescos own brand. Not as nice as Heinz but it's not worth the extra price to buy Heinz. A good review those supermarket branded beans looked very watery.
I really like the Branston beans, usually find them quite cheap in home bargains :)
Me too!
Love the vids dude.
Thank you 👍👍
I'm a latecomer to Baked Beans, but they are now a store cupboard standby.
I buy the Heinz microwaveable Snap Pots which are around £2 for 4.
They are more expensive but they're sugar free and sweetened with Stevia and not Aspartame.
Might try the Branston though, they look good! 🍽
Should have included Aldi baked beans, after all, it was Aldi who started the Baked Bean wars.. selling them at 2p a tin many years ago.
Yes good shout 👌👌
You are so right, Aldi beans are very tasty as are Asda own brand.
Aldi baked beans are the worse baked beans I have ever tasted, called Corale baked beans, god they taste like perfume or Palma violet sweets (if any one remembers them) ... no sorry most disgusting baked beans ever, cheap maybe but totally inedible ... yuk.
All about Corale the Aldi baked beans for me, or HP baked beans.
I like aldi beans too, I put a splash of black bean soya sauce in mine, always, I went off HP beans few years ago, found them to a bit too hard, they changed the way they cooked them I think.
@@kaydavies762 Might give the black bean soya ago thanks for the tip
Dont get a lot of choice where I live, sometimes we get Heinz (about £2 a can) but my fave is HP (about £1 a can), never been keen on Branston.
I swear by Branston beans they are delicious, you definitely earned a sub from me mate loved the bunch of your videos I've watched so far.
Thank you very much 😋😋👌👌👌
Was always a Heinz man every since a kid but moved to Branston past few years as Heinz went watery.
If they aren't on offer ill buy the cheapest like Smart Price, add some Tobasco and HP brown they make any taste good.
Only time I'll go with Heinz is when beans n sausage are 50p, love those
Yup, same as me - Heinz to Branston 👍🏻
branstons all day everyday
Mmmmm.
Thank you 😋👍👍
Hi. Love the video as always. Here’s my solution. Buy 1 Branson and 1 smart price and mix the 2. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of your favourite seasoning and boom 36p a tin and very tasty.
Good idea cheers 😋👍
I was always a Heinz man ........ until branstons uped their game now nothing comes close🍀🇬🇧👍🏼
Oh have Branston changed their recipe as they used to taste a bit weird?
Not sure Callum
@@callumbush1 from years ago yes I'm sure they never tasted like now plus the beans are bigger than they used to use ,I'm 55 so have eaten a fair few trumpetytrump😜🍀🇬🇧👍🏼
I have tried others, but I still much prefer Heinz, although they are so expensive now.
I always stock up on the Heinz when on offer, packs of 4 are usually a good deal
@@CupidStunt0001 I do the same thing
Love your channel please never change you always reply to comments well done
Cheers Alan, no I'm not going too
Garrett great review, l prefer Branston, the Smart Price one's have a type of onion power taste to them, A lot of the time One Below have them 3 for £1.20. They also have large Heinz beans and soup tins for 59p.
Cheers
What a spot on idea for a video! Branston all the way 🙌. Good stuff mate. All the best
Cheers Bobby👌👌
To me, canned beans are always far too sweet. Last year I started making own, using tins of beans, tins of chopped tomato, tomato puree, and adding some herbs and spices - cumin, coriander and oregano. To me they taste better than anything I can buy, and they work out cheaper too!
Great that Martin 😋👌👌
Can you email me some Martin? I can't be arsed to do all that mate ;)
Christ, remind me not to go to yours for Beans and Toast. lol. Only joking, each to their own.
Can you post your recipe here? I'd make it.
Sounds great if I didn't work, or have any other hobbies in my life!
Agreed, Branston is best. Supermarket saver beans are watery, often with hard beans. I use Heinz for sausage and beans as I never seem to see the Branston version.
I've been binging your past videos and really like your style, thanks for another honest review, see you later! 💜💜💜
Your welcome Barbie, 👍👍
Branston all day long especially on a fry up can't go wrong
Allreat fella, Branston every time for me,have you ever tried adding a teaspoon of malt vinager and two of brown sugar when cooking them ? makes them taste like BBQ, looking forward to watching tonight 👀
Cheers Eddie, see you later
Thank you for taking time to do your food shops and tastings
you're welcome Sonia 😊
Thanks again Gareth for another excellent review, you have one of the best food channels on UA-cam. Best Regards
Cheers Peter👍👍
I'm a Branston all the way, I'm glad now you can get them with a pull top
My sis in law saves money by mixing Heinz beans with a supermarket own brand. She's always been a canny woman and they tasted fine. 😊
I have been getting Branston for year's love the taste. Best flavour go nicely with so many thing's and a great bargain. Thanks for sharing love these comparisons.
Our pleasure!
i often use the cheap label beans .. I pour off some of the thin sauce .. then you can add what you like .. ie a shot ketchup or a chilli or even a bit of brown bottled sauce .. make your own flavour to taste ...
Thank you
Branston, easily the nicest imo. Richer, claggier.
Branson beans !are the best truly tasty ......I also like Waitrose essential ones ...that weren't on your video .they are good .my late husband claimed he knew the difference between the beans !!!!he reckoned it was the sauce that was different .
Lol never thought I'd be watching a bean review 😁🤣
All about the heinz beans, keep it up
Hp for me , always add a bit of butter when heating them up
Can't beat the Branston one for me
Branston's for me every time
I love Branston's I think they add a little pickle into the sauce it seems richer to me yum yum
Branstons for me everytime I find Heinz are overrated and people just buy them because of the brand name, Aldi beans are very good aswell.. Oh and I always love a nob of butter and a load of pepper in my beans😂
Alongside Aldi, Lidl's own brand beans are pretty damn good too.
Heinz wrecked their beans when they took out a lot of the salt and sugar. Tasteless these days. need to add the sugar and salt back in whilst warming through.
Yes I love Branston beans but when I sent my daughter to get me multi packs of them.. she came back with 18 tins 3pks of 6 of Heinz on offer she said for £14 well I was flabbergasted to say the least
Great review Gareth..
You're welcome
I was a Heinz only bloke for most of my life but a few years ago tried Sainsbury's beans that were half the price and never looked back. Thing is, I splash brown sauce on them most of the time and you can't tell the difference anyway! You pay up for branded stuff, but what you get isn't necessarily superior.
I prefer HP baked beans myself, a few months ago Fulton's Foods were selling four standard cans of HP for £1.00, that was a bargain for quality branded beans. More recently they've changed it to only two cans for £1.00, so they are now the same price as the Branston beans.
Years ago I occasionally used to have HP baked beans. They were good. Whatever happened to them?
Hi I am so pleased u choose Branson because I have them I luv them thank u for 😊sharing luv your videos xx
You’re welcome 😊
I'm going to try the branstens next shoping trip mate, never had them before, always purchaced heinz
Go for it👌👌
I love Tesco's home brand. Partner once bought Heinz and daughter asked why the beans tasted funny! I really preferred Tesco's to Heinz! but like you say its all on personal choice.
Yes exactly we are all different arnt we👍👍👍
in nz heinz beans kiwi recipe is 91 cents, heinz british recipe $2.30 branstons is $3 a 410 tin and the supermarket specials 60 cents, the kiwi dollar is worth around 10 bob. l find the beans in the budget brands taste the same it just the sauce that seems more watery
cheers love beans.
Have to agree with Diane here a spot of butter makes any can of beans better.
I better get off here, I've got things to do😆
Thank you kindly 🙏
To the budget or any beans I add a little butter, salt and pepper plus a dob of tomato sauce for depth and sweetness depending on your tastes . It makes them more indulgent on your toast !!
Yes good one, you can pimp them up. 22 pence too. They taste ok
Beans there you go, let’s get a bit of light on that🤣great vids mate👍cheer anybody up spot on😆👍👍
Cheers Clive, thank you 👍👍
We prefer HP Beans usually 3 or a pound.Heard Sainsburys basic are good.Maybe test a few more ..Morrisons and Tesco too
Cheers David
The best baked beans ever are 'Bush's Maple & Cured Bacon Baked Beans' - whenever I'm in America I buy a few cans, they're so moreish! 😋😋😋😋
Great video 👍 Have you had Branson's brown sauce yet? I think it's better than HP, a mate of mine tipped me off about it. I'd be interested to see a sauce off!!! 👍
Yes it's coming Karlos 👌👌
@@BaldFoodieGuy Great stuff mate 👏
Thank you
