    I like the dual use binding posts on the Korad, I had to find some similar to that to put on my Siglent, also interesting that the Korad is 500W, the Siglent can be hacked to 300W.

      Thanks Scott, yes there are some nice points on the Korad, also the cable set is good quality. the noise can be fixed.
      Yes go for the 1020X-E and hack it to 1030X :) but i wanted more power. my Kunkun has 400 Watts but is just to buggy. so compared to the Kunkun the Korad is a huge improvement.

    Thank you Tony for giving us a look at these loads. When I saw the "enter" button on the Rigol the first word that came to me was goofy. I suppose I would get used to it after a while, but it is still goofy. I agree with you, the lighted mode buttons are a plus. Regards, David

      Thanks David, yes if i would go for one, i would prob go for the Korad, the noise is fixable with other fan and i liek the extra power, and the other fancy options i will prob never use. all 3 have battery capacity option, but for that i use my little DL24 and not leave my whole lab running for hours. But for the hardcore user, the Siglent would be the choice. But none it this price range checks all the boxes.

    I can't speak for the Rigol and Korad but I can for the Siglent.
    Pro's: Formfactor, weight, functionality and to a certain degree the user interface.
    Con's: Software (utter crap), USB logging quirks/bugs, not remembering every setting after power off, sense terminals at the back.
    I have the 1020X but upgraded it to the 1030X. I read that the hardware is exactly the same so mine goes to 300Watts now.
    As for the Korad and Rigol, The Korad seems indeed the simplest (and noisiest). I like the fact it has banana input functionality by default. Display is a little busy and it's weird that the Function buttons double for the already present mode buttons in some cases.
    The Rigol looks the nicest but your comment about the small fonts seem to affect more RIgol products, like the famous DS1054Z oscilloscope.

      Thanks Marnix, great info, yes the Siglent is prob. the most finisched product. although i have not found one affordable yet that checks all the boxes.

    I have a full Siglent bench and very happy with the quality vs. price. However when choosing a DC load I went with the Rigol, primarily because the sense leads were up front as opposed to the Siglent inconveniently in the rear. Also the Rigol has a BATTERY function app which I am very much interested in.

      Yes it is a pity Siglent did not put more effort in those details. many Siglent fans go to another brand to get a load.

    Hi Tony, thanks for the review. I purchased the Rigol a few months ago and so far I am pretty happy with it. I do wish the fan was better controlled and when graphically plotting the dark red color on the display is terrible for viewing. Aliexpress has a set of two pair of M6 chassis mounted binding posts with the banana sockets. Just remove the Rigol post caps and screw on the new post caps.

    Great video! I would go for the Korad KEL2020 for my needs, however the one thing that will stop me is the design - it would be the ONLY piece of equipment in my lab with the screen on the RIGHT hand side! What a strange design choice. Even if you look at your equipment in the background of this video, the Korad with the RHS screen just looks so out of place! My OCD will not allow it! ;) hihi

      Must agree with you Stephen.. if my 400 Watts Kunkin was not that buggy i would not be looking for something else.
      my Amp control just remember the last setting and being different from what the display says. and sometimes it only wants to change the Amps setting with the channel on. other then that the Kunkin is great value.

    The dual use binding posts on the KORAD are indeed very nice. I have the Siglent and the elder and much smaller Korad KEL102 (150 Watts). Both are very reliable and are easy to use. The Rigol has an awkward user interface, looks pretty micky mouse like. So many different button shapes and font types. The worst on the Rigol are definitely those backwards slanted labels on the top button row. Irks! Ugly and totally insane from a user design perspective. Rigol has a strong tendency to create weird and anti-industrial looking user interfaces, unfortunately. I like the Siglent most and from my own experience it does a decent job in my lab every day ;) But I turned a bit into a Siglent "fan boy", kind of. So my opinion is a bit biased towards Siglent but I like their test gear and build quality for the advanced hobbyist level electronics.

    • @TonyAlbus
      @TonyAlbus  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Markus, Yes agree the Korad has nice plus with the binding posts the cables. True about Siglent, its very nice. that would be my pick if it would have more power, to add to the rest of my Siglent collection. Rigol.. i did not feel it..

  • @mrpetit2
    @mrpetit2 8 місяців тому +1

    Can the Siglent measure mAh and mWh?
    I think that is an important feature, for instance for testing batteries. (The Rigol can do it in that batterymode you showed)
    I don't think the Korad can do that?
    It would really annoy me not to have bananasockets on the front.
    Especially as these are still relatively low amp loads. (A good bananaplug can handle ~40amp continuous)

    • @TonyAlbus
      @TonyAlbus  8 місяців тому

      Yes i like the combined posts too. the Siglent does mAh but not sure about the mWh, the Korad i can test later, although i will be using the DL24 for little batteries.. for that i don;t need my lab to be switched on for hours.

    • @mrpetit2
      @mrpetit2 8 місяців тому

      @@TonyAlbus Yes the dl24 can also do mAh. But it's implementation is rather crude. You can only reset it for example by turning the device off and on again.
      However it is reasonably accurate in low current situations.
      That is usually the weak point of Ah meters; the ones that can handle high currents are most inaccurate in low current situations.
      Just like current meters in general I guess.
      But with Ah meters there can be a 2nd inaccuracy, the 0 offset.

    The rigol have the same hardware 200w or 350w (just a licence). It's maybe why it can go higher with the 200w. Good to know maybe no need to buy the DL3031A or hack the DL3021A. The think I didn't like is the 150v max. I'm designing some nixie psu and 170v should be great. Thank you for sharing. Very appreciated :)

      Ciao! Usualy i would go for Siglent as i have more equipment from them. In this case i would not.. i have no History with Rigol and what i have seen it usualy a bit busy screen and many buttons. That is both a personal choice. i never do battery testing with large batteries mostly small size batteries and find my Atorch Electronicload very good for that purpose. So myself i have the Korad for big loads. There is a firmware hack available to unlock the Siglent to 300w and get an extra digit on the voltage and maybe the other readouts too FWIW.
    I've done the "hack" on mine and well, the extra digit is near useless, it is too noisy, but the 300w part works just fine.

    An instrument I would like to have on my bench for a long time and I can't make a decision for one of the more affordable E-Loads. The cheaper Korad's (103) have a disastrous user interface. The Siglent has a nice user interface and is also nice to set up for a dynamic load test. But it seems to be not accurate at smaller load tests according to some users at EEV Blog. Also Scott's (Defpom) review showed some instability at the Constant Resistor test. This pulls me of from the Siglent at the moment. And...Although it is hackable.....it just should do 300W out of the box. Too bad this Korad sounds like a jet fighter at bigger loads. How easy is it to set up for a (very usefull) dynamic load test just by the user interface (not the software)??

    • @TonyAlbus
      @TonyAlbus  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi Mar, The korad is very user friendly for simple stuff, all the static is very straightforward.. the dynamic you need to get use to a lot, then the PC is indeed better idea. BTW i hopefully get the Easttester in January ET5301

    Rigol has lost it's luster for me. They just cannot get away from the tiny fonts that require a surgeon's loupe to read. That was already a big complaint on their 2000 series oscilloscopes, which I have and stopped using because I don't have 20-10 vision.
    I'm thinking Siglent is doing a better job interface wise in general, and the Konrad looks much like the old Kikusui loads. I'd take it, though.
    As to fan noise, I modify all my gear by rubber mounting the fans. I HATE loud gear.

    • @TonyAlbus
      @TonyAlbus  8 місяців тому +1

      You are not the first and prob not the last who mention the small fonts, they do a real bad job when many say this.
