I'm a believer! I was using a DIY DC load up until today when I received my Siglent (SDL1030X). Looking forward to applying it to my projects. Should be a great improvement.
WOW! Two cameras, what a fantastic idea and really great usage of them both, you have already got a good feeling for how to use them. You do have some jump cut, you can avoid that by using camera two. Imagine you are only speaking so camera two does not have something interesting to record. you van still use camera two to "save" you. If you make an error while recording, and you know it have to be corrected, you just look into the next camera and start that sentence over there, in that way do it just look like you have changed camera angle and you avoid jump cut. If you already are recording something else with camera two and do only have one camera on you while speaking, then can you just film some 10-20 seconds near images of a thing you were talking about while making your error, in that way can you just cover jump cut with those. Lastly are you so lucky that the light are the same, all day in your lab, so if you suddenly miss some still video because you had to cut something out, just go down and record something you do talk about. I know it takes a bit more time but it do also make your video look more fluent and professional.:-) By the way if you would like a top of the pop Electronic load, then do I know one who sells a Kikusui plz1004w:-)
Thanks Fried Mule! I have been thinking of how to do this for awhile. I like photography a lot - I once thought I'd be a pro - but I chose engineering instead. Both fun hobbies and engineering seemed more stable - but I wonder if photography might have been more lucrative;) I appreciate all your help - and I'll work on those things. I thought it might make things more fluid and actually be easier to edit - and save time. But, now I'm not so sure about the saving time part:) I need more practice right - then maybe it will be faster and better. Oh, and BTW, that would be one amazing load - but might be a bit pricy for me. Thank you! I've been buying some multimeters, power supply cards, and amplifier cards to review and test. I had to stop - I have to catch up reviewing these and try to save more $$. This is an expensive hobby! But keep telling me about products that come up - you never know when I am ready to buy;)
@@KissAnalog Trust me, you took the right choice, as a former photographer my self, it's a job based almost solely on luck! I did earn some money on taking pictures for magazines but mostly do you either make your living by taking portrait and weddings. Or if lucky, you may get some jobs at magazines. Wary few do live by exhibitions and seldom is it a creative job. If you work as photo journalist, you get a task, have to fulfill that in as short a time as possible and back to edit the images. About saving time, you can save a lot of time, you can as I wrote above, that saves you time, sins you can just "jump" between cameras and you do only have to move one camera for near images, the other can be as you did in this video. The part I think is taking most time is to hide cuts, move camera, hide errors and so on, but if you activt plan on using one "locked in place" and the other to "paint" with, you wil fast save a huge amount of time. :-)
Thanks that is very helpful! UA-cam doesn’t give me notice of follow up comments. When I have time I go back and look for these comments. I wish I would get notifications so I could respond faster - and who knows what I miss? I ran into a problem saving high def video from my B roll camera - I have to figure that out. Besides working on content I have publishing issues to work out;) I’m learning as I go;) Your help has been much appreciated!!
@@KissAnalog I never really thought about it. I just use some small YZX Studio electronic loads for most devices or to test batteries with. They are only good for about 30V and 3A's though. The features say that the Siglent is capable of short-circuit and battery test and is good to 500KHz. How were you thinking of making one? Are you going to make videos of it?
Thanks Bert - strange times... I wonder when the last time the world got together on something? I guess that's one good thing that has come out of this.
Interesting video - I’m in the process of building my own DC load so that I can test my home-built PS! See how successful I am with that eh?! The Siglent looks like a good functional piece of kit and it’s useful to see how you are testing that switcher, gives me some good ideas. Incidentally, when you were doing your multi-meter checks on the power supply dropping under load/rising without load, you were mentioning 6mV - somewhere around 8:30-8:40. I think it’s closer to 60mV: your DMMs are only showing 2dp:12.13V (12.130V) so a drop to 12.07V (12.070) would be 60mV. That’s a fair bit for lead loss isn’t it? I guess it’s all in the parasitics somewhere.
I just bought a 1030X. Pretty good but I noticed at very low currents it's off but most of my work is at medium loads so it won't affect me much. I liker it a lot though, I do a lot of battery testing and it shines in that application. Ed, I think you need a few more hand held meters!
LOL I do need more meters;) I would have liked to keep the Siglent load longer but had to return it:( I've seen some loads not be quite as clean or stable at low currents, but I'm glad to hear that it works for you!
@@KissAnalog You had to say that! I found the same thing - it went back. I hope they make better scopes, as I dug into it further things like the recorder and inaccuracy started to show up.
Hi Eddy , Can you measure Watts with the GWINSTEK? If you are using it to develop a power supply , finding the sweet spot with capacitor value choke 10H or 5H the ripple At a certain point you load to the max of a transformer If you use more capacity mF to reduce ripple You can use MicroCap but this is more fun watch amp volt meters 😀
Yes Bert you can measure power - but it takes two channels and some math - and it is actually realtime power, but I think you could take the integral over time and get Watts - I'll have to try that. Also, it would be great for me to show side by side MicroCap with Test bench - to show how they might correlate.
I will try it on microcap Eddie and with the GWInstek but Ian not a keyboard knight anymore because of a back injury years ago I can’t sit on a chair in front of a screen for more the a few minutes
That would be a great idea Bert. Well - I'm glad that you can still get around. I'm sorry about the injury. We don't know how lucky we are until we are not.
Electronic loads are awesome. Too bad they're so expensive, especially with those kind of features. When shopping for an electronic load also consider having mAh (amp-hour) logging capabilities if you want to do anything battery related. (I'm sure thats no problem for this Siglent)
They are very useful and I did find an inexpensive one. I do need to experiment with the mAh modes on these. Thanks for the feedback! ua-cam.com/video/VI-O_-X5fos/v-deo.html
Yes I know that one. I myself have a ZKEtech EBD-A20H: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000606643595.html Little bit more expensive ($80 delivered) but encased and is fully configurable by PC (also possible to calibrate by software), has mAh logging with 1mAh resolution and is programmable to a certain extent (timetable per second). 0-30V, 0-20A, 200W and is reasonable accurate (amps vary about 1% in long time testing, probably due to internal shunt heating up or so) But only does constant constant current/constant power/discharge to voltage, it can't emulate a resistor.
Siglent Just give him the meter!!! Reviews like this cause others to buy it. You will more than make you money back on it.
Love your idea! Thanks for your support!

Thanks Brad! The load calculates power and equivalent resistance. It makes it easy if you want to change to equivalent constant resistance.
