- Unboxing of the San Felipe from ZHL. As you will see in the video the instruction on the CD are nothing more than pictures of the completed models. Was supposed to come with English instructions but there are none. I have contacted them to try and get the proper CD.
The Santa Ana came in second in the unboxing poll and I will be linking to an excellent unboxing by Period model ship building. An excellent unboxing and the videos of the build itself are outstanding. Check it out :)

Wow what a kit! The laser cutting looks superb but the instructions, from what we’ve seen seems less desirable and leaves room for improvement.
It’s gonna be a mixture the rigging plans and the ship forum to mention to get it done, which I’m sure your more than capable of. 🙌👌
However it’s gonna be a HUGE ship 😍😍 it looks bigger than the BB Victory which is 130 cm long (if I remember correctly)

Yes it is a monster of a kit. I have emailed the shop I got it from hoping to receive the English instructions that should have come with the kit. If I can't get them I may have to treat it like a scratch build. Should be interesting 🤔
@@GregWilson635 thank you very much. It has become a fun part of the day/week filming the progress of the SA build. But also some pressure of the outcome of the piece I’m filming and doing a video on a regular basis. 😅
There are so many good modelship builders out there, I’m just hoping I can touch a little of what they do in my outcome. 🙈
I’m sure that you can figure it out with San Felipe. It will become a truly impress ship. The rigging are more and less the same on all these capital ships with some variation but it will take a truly San Felipe expert to see if the rigging isn’t 💯 % on point. All the wood work would be “easy” to do if there’s a good picture by picture build on the net. It’s definitely doable. 🙌🙌
Save the plans from Soleil royal on how to do masts, because they will probably very similar to what SF has.

@Periodmodelshipbuilding I'm tossing up between the Santa Ana and the Victory to build next. Sokeil will give me plenty of time to think about it 😉
@@GregWilson635 and also, I don’t know if you know the book. But the Period ship Kit builder’s manual by Keith Julier is very handy in a pinch and gives loads of information on all aspects of a kit build. This combined with the book called “the art of rigging” are my two go too books, both for inspiration but also learning techniques.
I really recommend them if you haven’t gotten them already. They will definitely help in any situation.
@Periodmodelshipbuilding thanks for the recommendations. I will definitely look for them. I have a couple of books but am always looking for better ones especially about rigging. Rigging scares me lol 😆
Hi, I am wondering what is on a CD. Thae plans and instructions are below expectancy. Listing of parts in Chinese language only.
I am building this model second year and i would step back if I wouldn't built Vasa scratch model to the same scale. I finished hull and standing rigging, now trying to start running rigging. I am depressed, as drawings are worse mess than plans for hull building. I tried to find rigging drawings/plans but except OCCRE (where all front railing is used for tying running rigging form bowsprit direction). There is two drawings with different addresses of the ropes.
Building this model we have to analyze at least several future steps, as plans are not precise, there is lots of mistakes and some of the mistakes made is hard or not possible to correct later.
Maybe ZHL corrected own mistakes and released new drawings. Please let me know.
I'm sorry, my reply must have disappeared. No, ZHL have not updated plans or instructions. They are still terrible. At this point I'm pretty well ignoring them and just building what I see in the photos of the completed ship.

It was $770 Australian which I think is roughly £440. Not sure if I have the skill to build it 🤔

Thanks , the instructions are atrocious. They don't match the plans, and if you don't look a long way forward, a mistake will be made, which I have just done . I need all the luck I can get 😉
Just off the hop that's a BIG ship. I checked the price, a real steal at $266 cdn compared to others. It'll be a challenge without instructions though. I built an italian kit years ago (before the internet) and the instructions were all in italian so I had to go by the plans and drawings only.
edit: looking at the plans/drawings, that's pretty much how mine was too. Took a lot of guesswork and measuring of the various wood pieces to make sure I was using the right stuff in the right place. I did make a few mistakes and had to make some of my own pieces. This was long before laser cut pieces as well.
@muskokamike127 it is very large and mainly due to the instructions. I want to get a few models done before I attempt it.

What maker is the Santisima? what scale?
I googled it and one was 1:90 and almost 42" long....
I was asking because the more experience you have, the less of an issue crappy instructions are. I had a couple of books to refer to, I think one was Mainstay, which helped a lot. Do they at least show you the dimensions of the pieces you're supposed to be using? For eg: when planking the hull do they show 1.2mm x 3mm?

Gracias, compré el kit en Alliexpress. Parece ser un modelo hermoso pero no buenas instrucciones.
Si no tiene buenas instrucciones entonces sí que tenemos un problema, espero que lo puedas resolver poco a poco gracias y que lo disfrutes.

That is the reason i wont buy there models im not waiting 3 months and not a big fan of there ropes and instructions
I agree , the ropes and instructions are not good at all. I am going to have to replace a lot of parts
@GregWilson635 but I've never seen that much stuff inside a model kit before that was crazy it's like double the amount of wood you would get with a high end brand kit will be a great looking ship when done

Looks like a Chinese manufactured kit. Sorry but not too fond of those made in China. I’ve heard they don’t use the best quality parts and instructions tend to be very poorly organized
It is Chinese manufactured , the wood and most of parts are quite good but instructions are terrible. May as well be a scratch build.
Agree. I am working second year and got stock with rigging.Mess drawings.
