Yes exactly, slingshot was able to make the strut thinner because the boom provides structural stiffness in the canopy. Thanks for watching the video comparison.
I knew someone was going to ask that question. The new slingwing this spring is going to have rigid handles and I will be testing that wing in comparison to the javelin. My guess is that the rigid handles are going to be a nice compromise between a full boom and soft handles. I would think for learning tacks the rigid handles are going to be awesome. The 2 rigid handles are going to offer a lot more control over the wing than soft handles. Thanks for watching the video.
Great video.. perhaps i missed it, but is there a difference in the grunt of those 2 wings and also how either of them handle in really high winds.. Would you take out the same wing for the same wing conditions? I tried an SLS slick for the first time and was better on my tacks than my slingwing.. immediate results.. I am considering a boomed wing either for the smaller wing since i have been overpowered on 3.5 a lot and or my most often used wing, which was 4.5m in la ventana this winter. Cheers and thanks for the details.
I feel like the Slingwing has more grunt than the Javelin for the low-end. The Javelin feels like it should have more power at the low-end because of how direct the feel is but it didn't seem to get me up of foil any better than the Slingwing. I would prefer to be on the javelin in powered conditions because I have a lot more control over the wing vs the soft strap handles. That being said if conditions are extremely gusty, I would prefer the Slingwing because of how well it absorbs the gusts. I totally agree with you on the tacks, learning with a boom is much easier than soft straps. For smaller wings like the 3.5 or 4.5 I feel like the Javelin would be nice for more powered conditions. The one I tested in the review was a 4.5 and was great except for surfing because it seemed to rock back and forth. To eliminate that rocking motion I would hold the wing by the boom where it meets the LE. Hope that helps a little, this was kind of my first experience with a boom so it's kind of a new experience for me. Thanks for watching the video.
That's right you need rigid handles like on the Slingwing v3 HH or a Javelin. Good luck with the Tacks, they are tricky for sure. Thanks for watching the video.
Looks like the one with the boom has a thinner (lighter) main strut. That makes sense if the boom and strut form a truss.

How about mini-boom? 2 rigid handles? How would they compare for learning tacks?

Thank you!!! So, I am failing tacking a lot because of the soft handles on my wing, but it is NOT my fault.. 🤣😂🤣😂

Awesome demonstrations 👌
thank you for watching, cheers
