Like the heartbeat and breathing of a living creature. The hiss of pneumatics, like a steady inhale and exhale, sounds like breathing, but the deep drone of the engine feels like breathing.
There is the oscillating hum of the reactor, the principal sign of life.
The amorphous warbles and clicks of many computers, each representing the synapse of a machine thought.
These surfaces are inanimate, but to the touch they feel alive.
