Labour have grown the economy massively every time they have got into power but somehow people forget this. I don't think people actually know the stats behind the economy they just got this idea that the Conservatives are good from somewhere and it wont shift.
I think it's more about a perception of reigning in "expenses". It's why the Blair government could go on a spending spree after Major. Obviously expenses mean different things to different people and as you cut ever deeper into ever aging infrastructure investment while international competition around you grows it becomes more of a dangerous tactic, Camerons austerity programme was particularly disastrous, evident by the stagnation in productivity in the UK since. I don't think Sunak is much different to Truss, re crippling HS2 and reducing investment in green industries, two areas that could actually improve productivity in the UK, specifically in the North, the Tories now are more like a one trick pony over reliant on the unicorn of the spontaneous entrepreneur that is meant to mythically appear from tax cuts where in reality tax cuts just increases our existing poor trade deficit and continues the cycle of the south east heavily to give hand outs to the rest of the country.
I'm not sure she could lower the Conservative Party’s election chances if she tried. They are already out of the gutter and well down the drain on their way to the river outfall.
It's still early days and believing polls is a 'fool's paradise'. Firstly, many Tory voters have a long tradition of deserting the party mid-term to apply pressure on policy. So, there will be many right-wing people not voting in local or by-elections and telling lies to pollsters. These people always vote in general elections and never want Labour. Then there's the matter of Reform leeching crucial votes from Tory candidates. In theory, this appears great for Labour - in practice Reform takes votes from Labour too (May discovered this in 2017 when she wrongly assumed post referendum all 2015 UKIP votes would go Tory). Also it's looking probable the Tory Party will shift to the right and make an election pact with Reform to leave the ECHR and stop the boats. This would mean Reform and Tories not contesting the same seat and making the general election all about 'the boats'. As Harold Wilson famously once said: _"A week is a long time in politics."_

There should be a 30 year disqualification on all Old Etonians and/or Oxford PPE graduates from holding the office of prime minister. We have surely had enough of incompetent, massively over promoted posh boys like David Cameron and Boris Johnson or reckless idiots like Liz Truss (PPE Oxford). For me, as previously a loyal Conservative voter, it will be a huge relief to have Keir Starmer as a highly intelligent prime minister from a genuinely meritocratic, working class background. Starmer went to a state school and then studied law at the highly regarded University of Leeds in the North East of England. He is likely to understand this country's needs a good deal better than his arrogant, foolish predecessors.
Interesting analysis on Corbyn here. I did support Corbyn’s Labour at the leadership elections and both general elections but agree that he learnt the wrong lessons and put forward a 2019 manifesto that was too radical for swing voters. Where I disagree with the panel is that the 2017 manifesto’s anti austerity measures were actually quite popular with the public and if Starmer ran on a similar platform today, he would probably win a landslide. Tory chaos has only increased in the intervening years and the media are less hostile to Starmer than to Corbyn. I also believe that Corbyn’s attitude towards Israel is far more rational than that of many ‘mainstream’ politicians and resonates outside the Westminster bubble.

He is likely to understand this country's needs a good deal better than his arrogant, foolish predecessors.
what a group of wilted tulips.
Did Tony Benn wish defeat on the Labour Party?
No, I think they meant it as sticking to their principles, the hosts disapproving of principles, good or bad.
GO LIZ, GO !!!
😆😆😆😆😆🤣🤣
Well. We're only 40 years behind George Orwell.
If anyone believes that Truss is looking for a position in a Think Tank, they are mistaken. She is more suited to a Thick Tank.
I dont live in the UK but I am surprised people are still talking about Liz Truss There are two types of politicians - the conviction group who firmly believe in what are proposing and the others who just support policies which they believe will enhance their reputation and power. and Truss belonged to the latter.I find it hard to understand how this woman rose so high up the ranks of the Conservative party.
I live in the UK. No one is talking about Liz Truss. Apart from the media, but they'll move on soon.
The Conservative party need to expel her, she is in need of mental health help!
I don’t think anyone can further damage their election prospects except perhaps Sunak.
A sad woman. Sadder still that she became leader of the country on the whim of Conservative Party members, and not a vote of the country. Just goes to show how out-of-touch party members are.
No offence that's how our constitution works.
@@matthewgubbins8515 the constitution, such as we have in the UK, does not govern how party members vote for their leader. Therefore to cite a constitutional argument is erroneous.
Honestly, how can someone be so thick and not understand that they're thick after seeing the result of their getting their own way.
